"What It All Means" will be a weekly column during the regular season where we take a look at poll movement after the week's games and try to figure out what it means for the Hokies, plus anything particularly interesting on a national scale. Think the pollsters are right? Think they're nuts? Let's hear it in the comments.

The first thing this week's poll means is that all that talk about credit for playing good teams? It's crap. How we drop 3 and 7 spots for losing to the #3 team in the nation with a minute to go in the game, I don't get. Either Boise State's worthy of their position or they're not. This week's poll movement smacks of writers making a default judgment on a loss, not evaluating the game that was played.

The rest of this week's polls don't do a ton for us. North Carolina loses its position after the LSU loss, but that can be chalked up just as much to the NCAA eviscerating their defense as anything on the field. Miami becomes the top ACC school at #12, just in time to play #2 Ohio State and likely be punished for taking on a good team next week just like us. Georgia Tech holds;

TCU solidifying its #4 position leaves an interesting dilemma. They don't have any major powers on their schedule to give them an obvious vault over Boise State, but they do play an overall tougher schedule. Barring a loss by either team, watch the vote totals to see if this gap closes over time. The voters also seem to have a close eye on Florida, busting them to #6 after an uninspired performance.

The calendar tells me New Year's Day is in January, and the top of the schedule reads September. But for we the college football-crazed, the real beginning of the year comes in August, when official practices start, tickets arrive and a randomly cool Sunday morning fills the air with the scent of FOOTBALL.

And as most major world religions would tell you, when making a new beginning, it's important to own up to your failings. Hokie fandom is no different. So, meet The Key Play's contributors as we offer our confessions and humbly request the Hokie Bird's forgiveness, then share your own in the comments. Admitting you have a problem is the first step to recovery, you know.
