Our Future looks bright....

Sorry for the blatant positivity, but I guess that I don't share all of the doom and gloom that is being represented by some.
Sure, I share in the disappointment, but I expected some issues this year.

ACCCG still a strong possibility!

I maybe late but I'm writing it anyway, if our beloved Hokies win out and Duke loses one more ACC game finishing the season the Hokies are in!

Now granted we'd be playing more than likely FSU but that was our goal at the begininng of the season was to make it to championship games!

Ill admit I jumped Logan's sh*t yesterday and last week but I'm still looking for him to rally the troops/himself and lets finish november like we normally do! LETS GO HOKIES

I'm a Logan Lover...and proud to be one.

Chill out on Logan Thomas. Stop hating on him. Frank Beamer has been coaching this team since before a few people hanging around here were born. I imagine he's watched a quarterback or two. If you think that Coach Beamer wouldn't put the best kid on the team under center, you have psychological problems. Go rake leaves and give football a break.

Good QBs Avoid Mistakes

What makes a good QB? Qualities like athleticism, determination, enthusiasm, size, strength, and competitiveness. Logan Thomas has those.

But there is one trait that is also needed by a QB and this trait is where LT lacks sorely: the ability to avoid mistakes. Due to accuracy and/or poor decisions, he is one mistake-prone guy. And that is the problem. A QB can do great things. But if the QB is mistake prone, it is a wasted effort. All the good stuff gets destroyed through mistakes.

Trashing on Logan

Don't think he should play. Say it. Have something critical to say about his gameplay. Talk about it.

Be respectful about how you say it. Most of the people on this site are good about the way they talk about his performance but some people are just being downright disrespectful. He is still a Hokie and, despite his performance, he is working hard for this team and putting himself on the field for the Hokie nation. He doesn't deserves to have his name dragged through a mudpit of slander. Its unacceptable.

Keep it classy TKP community.

Time To Face Reality

After watching us shit the bed for a second week in a row I think it is safe to say that we are not who we thought we were during the bye week two short weeks ago. This team is a damn cluster-fuck. I had high hopes heading into the BC game, now I am hoping we can hold on and beat UVa despite everything that is plaguing us.

1) Logan is a complete and utter mess. He may be the most inconsistent quarterback that I have ever seen at any level of football. He simply is not the answer that this team needs and I hate to say it but it has reached the point where I am ready to see his eligibility expire.

Six Pick Week 10

Week 10 has arrived with a whimper. Other than the "We're Back Bowl" featuring two undefeated, top 10 ACC teams, this week's TV schedule isn't good at all. And yes things got weird as this is the second week of the last three where the marquee game features ACC conference play. This going to take some getting used to.

Good coaching, bad coaching, and typical coaching

I love coming to TKP now and reading all the write-ups on things, and I also enjoy various sports and seeing the designs in things. With regards to coaching, and specifically in regards to OC, DC, and HC on a football team, I'd like to make a few observations and get a few opinions on things.

We've had a lot of people criticize coaching, and it gets worse in game where there's poor performance.

Here's what I see in football:

A bad coach is one with consistent bad performance, regardless of personnel. I'm not naming examples in any of these observations, but we all have ideas. A bad coach can do a whole lot of nothing, even if they had an entire team of 4 and 5 star recruits.

Special Teams question I have to ask.

With how outstandingly poor they have performed, why are Kyshoen and Demitri still returning punts and kickoffs? 8 games is a pretty good barometer.

Do Not Expect Anything to Change on Offense

It is now clear what Loeffler can and cannot expect out of Logan Thomas. Statistically, Thomas is tracking similarly to last year. His completion rate has moved from 51% to 55%. Not good. (Only Georgia Tech has a lower completion rate in the ACC.) Through eight games, Thomas has ten picks, which is also one of the worst in the ACC. Adjusted QBR is 54.3 this year (which is also not good), compared to a horrid 43.4 last year.

Week 9? Mascot Challenge

Congrats to the Hokie Bird on winning against that giant red blob of WKU! HB is now sitting fairly comfortably in 3rd place.

This week we face the BC Eagles...a team which we also face this weekend in football. The mascot challenge this week seems to be fairly easy as BC is bottom of the pack, even if after losing to Duke it doesn't seem like it will be an easy week for our football team.

Keep at it, though, because during the week, BC may actually show up to the mascot challenge just because they face us this week.

Announcers and their stats

I haven't been on because I haven't felt like reading anything on the game. However, now that it's Monday and I've had a couple days to process, I hate announcers.

The three stats that they pushed at the beginning of the game had me feeling like we wouldn't win the game because of whatever luck/tempting fate announcers tend to have when it comes to the beginning of the game.

The three stats (if that's what you call them) they had at the beginning of the game:

Duke has lost 12 in a row to VT dating back to 1981 (or whatever year).
The last time Duke beat a ranked team in 1950something or 1960something.
The last turnover given up by VT on September 21st.

Time to recharge the batteries and get back to neutral

We can all agree that yesterday was no fun, but what has been even less fun is all the negativity flying around TKP today. While most disappointment has been justified (we lost, bro), the personal attacks on individual players and fellow TKP'ers is not what this site is about. Like a duck with one leg, you're swimming in circles and getting nowhere.

My suggestion is: we give it till the end of the night (Sunday) to get everything out of our system (on here, twitter, dream journals, cave walls, etc..), then come back Monday stronger than ever.

We've Seen This Before

The game was awful. We all know that. It became hard to watch by the second quarter, and the blame has numerous people upon whom it could be placed. There's no sugarcoating any of it.

But instead of dissecting the players' and coaches' performance (or lack thereof), I'm going to give you a history lesson.

An open letter to everyone that is a site member

This is starting to look like the Sabre around here.
Everyone's self-destructing on here and Twitter and it's embarrassing as shit.

VT is 6-2. It's a hell of a lot better than where we were at this point last year.

Please log off your computers and calm the fuck down. It's Saturday, so maybe I'll catch some of yall at the Hokie House or Rivermill.

Go defense!

Six Pick Week 9

Week 9 and there is a top 3 and there's everyone else. That's not to say these three are bulletproof, all three have challenges on their schedule, though some, #rolltide have fewer challenges than others. I like seasons like this: parity, upsets, uncertainty, but enough muscle at the top that its not a completely watered down product (like the NFL.) Every game (still) matters.

SEC vs ACC

I thought it would be nice if the ACC and SEC had annual match ups for each of their respective teams. I came up with this list and some possible titles for these hypothetical "ACC/SEC" rivalry games. Just some light humor.

Alabama vs Miami "NCAA Probation Cup"

Auburn vs UVA "Battle of the Orange and Blue"

Arkansas vs Pitt "New Backyard Brawl" (Because Arkansas is a good substitute for West Virginia)

Ole Miss vs UNC "Cotton vs Tobacco Bowl"

Miss St. vs NC St. "The State Bowl"

A.J. Hughes: Helping Hokies D Look Good

A.J. Hughes has improved dramatically this season. Without his performance this season, some of the close wins, might have been losses. I typically use ESPN to view stats, but their statistics on punters isn't the best. To get a better idea of how good Hughes has been performing, I compiled my own stats from ESPN's play-by-play summary. Hopefully this paints a more detailed picture. I provide a brief summary at the end with some additional stats regarding return yards allowed and net punting. Please feel free to put together additional statistics. Enjoy!

Weekly Weather Report....they're all pretty big games at this point

I begin this report by apologizing for last weekend, as I said it's tough to predict those offshore low pressure systems, I really did not see that rain coming but I did have a slight prediction of precip in my forecast... Either way, I whiffed on that and the humidity, so I apologize and please do not give up on me! So fall break's over, and listening to Miami almost blow it to UNC on the drive to my girlfriends was pretty enjoyable (needless to say the skins win on the radio on the drive home was even more enjoyable), but now I'm back in Blacksburg ready for some Hokie football.
