Week 6 of Capital One Mascot Challenge

I know I haven't posted this for the week, though HB doesn't seem to need much help this week against the LSU Tiger, but I figured you could go add your vote anyway.

Rip out the eye of the tiger

At 3-2...winning this week would make it 4-2...but we'd need a miracle to happen against that Purple Pirate, and the USF Bull to come back an win it all.

Hokie Football 101: Traditions of Lane

Ok class, we had a week off last week but time to hit the books again. Today, we're not covering a team or an offensive style, or any of that kind of stuff. Today, we are going to talk about some Hokie traditions and other things that might be of help to you this Saturday inside Lane.

I'll start off with saying that paper airplanes, have never been, and never will be part of our proud football heritage. You do not throw them and you look like an idiot for trying. Want to do it after the game is over? Sure, go for it, personally I don't care at that point, but during the game you're main job is to be the best home field advantage you can be, and that does not involve any type of airplane.

"Foe"Rensics: Pittsburgh

Hello. Welcome to this week's installment of "Foe"Rensics, where we try to share information many people don't know about this week's football opponent1. Pittsburgh is a proud city (also known locally as MelonCarnegieHeinzville) with a strong industrial tradition that produces some blue collar football players. Frankly, they were idiots not to hire Bud Foster and bring the Lunchpail D north the 47 times they've changed head coaches in the last ten years. But, one school's stupidity is another's gain, I guess.

Game Times...

Will we realistically get a night game this year?? We may be lucky to get the 3:30 spot for the duke game, so that leaves Maryland as the last hope. Thoughts?

Nice little nugget about Willie Byrn going on scholarship...

From Andy Bitter's story on Byrn in the Roanoke Fishwrap...

BLACKSBURG The day Willie Byrn had been waiting for finally came this summer, when he was put on scholarship at Virginia Tech. The receiver from Virginia Beach knew the news would go over well with his family, so he had some fun with it.

A golfer who frequently hits the links with long snapper Joe St. Germain and linebacker Derek DiNardo, Byrn decided to tell his dad he needed money to pay off some escalating bets on the final few holes of a round.

Six Pick Week 7

Hey guys, welcome to week 7 and we havent had the crazy, shit has hit the fan week of upsets and extremely close games yet. Is it this week?

I am jealous of you guys that will be in Blacksburg this weekend. Right in the middle of heaven, peak fall season, the weather, the leaves, and of course the awkward Hokie RESPECT announcement before our Hokies take the field. If were in town, the Cascades would get a couple hours of my time, I think next year, I'll make a #beercontrolfather family date out of it.

Thoughts on Pitt

Just curious to see how everyone is feeling about Pitt this week. After a good game against UNC last week that the crowd really showed up for, I think it's time for the Hokies to end this losing streak to the Panthers. Here are a few thoughts/keys that I've been considering:

Punt returning performance

I'm glad we got the win and I'm sure there's always something to pick out that we didn't do well, but I've noticed the last few games we've had no real punt returning yards. Is it time for Jarrett to step down from being our punt returner or is it just that he hasn't had any breaks? I think he's talented enough to do it, I just don't think he's explosive enough to do it, but that's just my opinion?

So my question is do you think Jarrett is doing good with what we have or do you think he should step down as our punt returner and if so, who do you think should replace him if you think he should step down? This is just a freindly debate I just wanted to know what what others thought about it.

AllLoganEverything - UNC Game Analysis

My analysis that pales in comparison to any work by the real TKP staff is a day late (I know everyone is asking why) because I was drinking in fatty mugs of happiness at Hokie House last night. As Loeffler said, I'm not going to apologize for winning.

Guys we're 5-1.

To Hokie players that read their own press...Read this.

Alright, Little Chickies,

You're 1-0 in the ACC with a win against the Yellow Jackets. You've beaten a couple of mid majors, and a FCS cupcake. Coach Beamer has done a locker room dance, and multiple news outlets are singing the praises of the dominant defense.

Feeling pretty good about yourselves? Well...don't. I hear all you guys talking about wiping the taste of 7-6 out of your mouth this year. Here we are in 2013 and you're basically in the same spot you were right around Pitt/UNC/Cincy, plus or minus a couple of non-conference games.

Why was Facyson only a 3-star?

I'm in awe of what the kid has done in the past month, he's going to be a stud CB for the next 2.5 years for us and then be a high-level NFL draft pick.

Here's his rivals page. It looks like the best program he was offered from (besides VT) was UNC. For a kid who so driven academically, it doesn't sound like UNC was the best choice for him (sounds weird to say b/c UNC is a great public university) and he essentially dropped into our laps.

Andrew Ford Senior Highlights

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/594850/highlights/77131382?autoplay=1

Few observations on Hokie Quarterback committment, Andrew Ford.

1. His high school runs a very sophisticated, pro-style passing attack. Many of the formations look like they are from the Loefller playbook - I can see why he recruited this kid. He takes snap from under-center, from the shotgun in an inverted veer play-action package, and from the pistol. Sound familiar?

"Foe"Rensics: North Carolina

Hello. Welcome back to "Foe"Rensics, where we dive inside the heads of our opponents every week to understand what makes their football program tick. This week we were planning on doing a hat themed preview since North Carolinians are very fond of hats but you run out of jokes after "fedora" and "bowler", turns out. So, without further ado, let's all take a trip to Chapel Hill and get to your questions!

Six Pick Week 6

The first week of October and its already week 6. Some teams will be halfway done with the regular season after this week. This a bit weird, as its barely even fall.

Like everyone, I have a couple of College Football crushes that are outside Blacksburg. No. 1 will always be Steve Spurrier, but my current no. 2 is MANBALL. No one, not even Alabama plays more MANBALL than Stanford. They often line up 8+ Offensive Linemen/Tight ends to mash face and then do it. /SWOON. Now they are working on a 9 man Offensive Line package. Oh my.

Exum will replace Facyson at Field Corner per Coach Gray (*Two weeks ago)

I am not sure how you take a kid who leads the country in interceptions (not to mention the fumble recoveries, forced fumbles, and almost interceptions he has been involved with) and take him off the field. Facyson isn't as good a fit at the nickel as Kendall, but Exum better play a very high level of football to justify this move.
