Hate Week

Locker Room Material

You guys, I don't know how long this has been going on, but if the guys in the locker room haven't seen this before, I'm about to unleash hell on the Hoos.  I debated on whether or not I should post this out of fear that James Gayle wouldn’t be able to restrain himself until Saturday from cracking skulls.  But the people have a right to know.

Accounts of Commonwealth Cup's Past.

First off, please take a moment to share many of the great people here's work on Facebook, Twitter, carrier pigeon or straight to the faces of the accused. Joe has made it exceptionally easy to do and we're all better for it. http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2012/november/19/you-shouldnt-need-rea... Click and Share. It's really that easy.

Now, to tie in with everything they've done. I simply wanted to create a section for the message boards to reflect on Commonwealth Cup's past. Feel free to give accounts from games, tailgates, etc where you realized you were a part of the rivalry.

Streakin' Ain't Easy

College football contains quite a tumultuous landscape. The mantra, “every week counts” is played to a raspy whisper at this point. However, weekends much like this past where the top 5 are either crashing through the wall or being thrown out on their ass show that one game can make or break you. College football is all about the streaks:  Wins, yards, catches, completions, home, away, conference, out of conference, etc. How else would consistency and quality be quantified in the sport?

Miami Football Primer, Photo Edition

It has been quite an eventful two weeks, has it not? First and foremost, my thoughts go out to everyone in the Northeast dealing with Sandy. This one's for you.

Appropriately, Hokies-Canes falls the day after Halloween; this season has been scary for both teams, who each sit at 4-4. Bet I know what Kellen Winslow will be this year...

Not only is Halloween this week, but we are also reaching the climax of election season for the Presidential race. Interestingly, POTUS spoke at the University of Miami earlier this month.

MascotMock™: Buzz

Editor's Note: Bumped this up from last year. We're still planning the Mock 2.0, but for now, anyone with Photoshop skills, get it on. -- Joe
Alright boys and girls, joe has cast off another burden and handed me the reigns of the MascotMock™.  We're going to broaden the scope and include coaches and other university accoutrements (i.e. this week's Ramblin Wreck) to add to the hilarity a bit.  Keep it funny and PG13.
For those of you who are waiting on the wings to participate: download GIMP (free) here: http://www.gimp.org/downloads/
I learned it in a day.

UVA Preview

Who: #6/4 Virginia Tech Hokies (10-1, 6-1 ACC) vs #24/25 Virginia Cavaliers (8-3, 5-2 ACC)

Time: 3:36 PM

TV Coverage: ABC/ESPN2 (Joe Tessitore, Rod Gilmore, Lisa Salters)

Venue: Scott Stadium, Charlottesville, VA (61,500 – Grass)

Series History: Virginia Tech leads 50-37-5

  • Last Meeting (2010): Virginia Tech 37, Virginia 7
  • The Hokies have won seven consecutive meetings with UVA, winning by an average score of 32-11.
  • Tech has won 11 of the last 12 meetings, with the lone loss being a 35-21 defeat at UVA in 2003.
  • The Hokies hold a 6-2 advantage when both teams are ranked. However, this is just the third time since 1999 that UVA has been ranked.

Injury Report

  • OL David Wang – Out (Foot)
  • Alonzo Tweedy and C Andrew Miller – Expected to Play

The Opponent: There’s really not much to be said about this game that hasn’t already been said. Plain and simple, this is for all the marbles. A Tech win equals another ACC Championship berth and the potential for an Orange Bowl appearance. A Tech loss probably sends Tech to either Atlanta or Orlando and sends UVA to the ACC Championship in Mike London’s second year. UVA has closed the gap in London’s tenure and this is their test to truly see how close they are to Virginia Tech.

I PLEDGE: Agriculture-style.

As you all know, Lane Stadium North issued an ABP to all Wahoos to guarantee that Scott Stadium would be filled to capacity this coming Saturday. Thankfully, the UVA ticket office was able to accomplish its goal... but with no help from its apathetic fan base. Virginia Tech Hokies gobbled (no pun intended) up a majority of the remaining tickets. Alas, for the Cavaliers, it seemed that the YouTube sensation "I PLEDGE" video was for naught.

Because of the overwhelming response by Tech fans, I decided to put together our own set of pledges:

MascotMock™: AscotMock Edition

Editor's Note: I didn't think it'd be possible for Box to outdo his work over the last couple of months, but here we are. Let's get out mock on. --Joe

Well, we're now 3-0 on the new and improved MascotMock™.  Thanks for the patience and hard work but lets really hit it hard this week.  These "people" deserve nothing but our unrelenting disrespect and teasing.  Lots of material so no excuses not to help out and degrade our enemies.

UVa Hate Week Bulletin Board

I know none of us need any more reason to dislike the Boohoos, but I figured it might be nice to get a bulletin board of sorts started to fuel the rage just before downing the first bourbon drink Saturday. If you've got images, quotes or anything you think might help get fellow Hokies fired up, post it!

Bitch Please: Part II

It's hate week, and it's a good one. Virginia beat Florida State in Doak late Saturday night, a venue where they'd previously been 0-8. The Hokies didn't clinch the ACC Coastal, and there'll be a lot of Hoos creeping out of the woodwork. From my observations on Twitter most of you were rooting for Florida State. I was in the minority then. I wasn't actively rooting for Virginia, but I wasn't upset they won. Honestly, I spent most of the game relaxing and cackling on my couch as UVa and FSU each tried to bumble away the game, with FSU ultimately proving to be most futile.

Stereotypically speaking the Hoos and Hokies are polar opposites. Uncultured wild rednecks who take pride in always supporting their football team contrasted against the couth white-collar upper-middle class obsessed with the Director's Cup. We both think we're better than each other, and the hate starts there. However, this week we both have a few things in common. Virginia hasn't won anything, and neither has Virginia Tech, but we both have hope.
