Like last recruiting cycle, there's elite defensive line talent in the Commonwealth of Virginia for 2015. Six-foot-three, 295-pound, Thomas Dale defensive tackle, tight end, and right tackle Darvin Taylor is a blue chip prospect that the Hokies are trying to land to bolster the interior of their defensive line. As of right now, Darvin has 19 scholarship offers and according to his father, Darvin L. Taylor, he's visited nine different colleges over the past year-and-a-half, including visiting Tech 3 or 4 times. Darvin and his family plan on visiting Tennessee, Clemson, and Virginia Tech this spring/summer before he commits.

Darvin told me last Friday he'll chose to play in a, "Place that kind of feels like home ... a place that I could see myself living for four to five years."

Additionally he's looking to play for a position coach that's, "More like a father figure, not like a friend." Someone he can trust.

Both education and winning at the next level are important to Darvin. In his own words he'll chose, "Somewhere I'll be able to get a great education, so no matter what job I have, they'll be like, 'Wow, you got your degree from blah, blah,' wherever I'm going.

"Somewhere I'll be able to win a national championship, BCS Bowl games, somewhere I can just compete. A big thing football wise, I want to go somewhere where I'll be able to win every game, or losing two games in a season is like a failure."

Darvin camped at Tech last summer and visited during the Maryland game. He said of his trip last fall, "It's a very nice campus, I liked the facilities, they had some heckuva defensive tackles, defensive players, it was a good atmosphere, and I believe I can get a great education from Virginia Tech."

Darvin believes leadership, "People respect me on my team," and technique, using his hands to shed blockers, double teams, to disrupt action in the backfield, are his biggest assets on the field. He says he needs to improve on anticipating the center's snap to get off the ball faster.

Darvin plans to commit on August 28th, which is his birthday, and Thomas Dale's first game. Shane Beamer has been recruiting Darvin. Taylor said of Shane, "We have a pretty good relationship, he's a very nice guy." Also, Darvin was teammates with 2014 Virginia Tech signee C.J. Reavis. C.J. isn't pushing Darvin one way or another, but has extolled Tech's positives, those both on and off the field.

Darvin wants to major in communications (the media side) with a minor a business in college, and hopes to pursue a career in broadcasting when he's done playing football.

Tech's defensive line has been trending small. Darvin has the size and skills to be a big nose tackle at the point of attack who can create space, and use his motor to make plays.

Darvin's highlights are available on his Hudl.
