Bayside's Quin Blanding, regarded as one of the nation’s top recruits in the Class of 2014, announced today he is headed to the University of Virginia.

Blanding joins a growing list of top South Hampton Roads football players – including a host of former Bayside teammates – who have picked the Cavaliers and coach Mike London.

Blanding is a rated a five-star recruit by rivals.com, and the recruiting service ranks him as the No. 4 overall prospect in the Class of 2014.

Each of the past three players rated South Hampton Roads’ No. 1 player in his respective class has signed with Virginia: running back Taquan Mizzell (Class of 2013), Ocean Lakes lineman Eli Harold (2012) and Bayside defensive back Demetrious Nicholson.

Two other former Bayside players - wide receiver Anthony Cooper and linebacker Henry Coley – also are at Virginia. Cooper is a rising sophomore and Coley is a rising junior.

Blanding, a 6-foot-2, 200-pounder, finished his junior season with 55 receptions for 1,035 yards and six touchdowns. At defensive back, he intercepted five passes and had 111 tackles. Blanding was a first-team All-Beach District pick at wide receiver and the Beach District Defensive Player of the Year.
