Buzzketball vs. Miami Photo Gallery - Hokies Defeat Hurricanes

Photo essay of Virginia Tech's win in the Cassell over No. 25 Miami.

[Mark Umansky]

The Hokies took down No. 25 Miami 66-61 Monday night on the back of Ty Outlaw hitting about seven-hundred-thousand three pointers and I stayed up for you all to photograph the entire thing.

We haven't gotten to see a whole lot of Tyrie Jackson off the bench during his redshirt year, but the guy has some serious ups for being officially listed at 6'1". It'll be fun to see him in games starting next year.

The entire team spent about 5 minutes of warmups just dunking the ball as much as possible and I took over 400 photos before the opening tipoff. (This is not my typical workflow, but they just. kept. dunking.)

Ty Outlaw was feeling a little confident before the game, as the entire basketball team watching realized:

Sometimes, it's the stuff that happens outside the lines that make for the best photos. Poor ol' Jim must have been fighting a cold on the trip, he was downing cough drops between pulls on the handkerchief.

Photography has a way of freezing a moment in time that can slip past you incredibly fast, such as this Seth Allen face as he looked for an open pass (apparently it's super relaxing and enjoyable).

If I had the money and time to set up a remote camera, I'd put one up by the banners hanging in Cassell and point it right at the Virginia Tech bench.

The White Out in Cassell this year seemed to take hold better than it has in recent memory, even outside the student section.

Speaking of the Cassell Guard...

Outside of the game, one of my favorite shots to get are the crazy hair reactions to the High Techs' routines as they move about.

Can't forget about LeDunk. I think every photographer on that side of the baseline saw that whole play unfold in slow motion, it was almost perfect.

You can find the entire photo gallery here and all our other galleries at http://photos.thekeyplay.com, see you all in Cassell on Saturday for Tech's regular season finale against Wake Forest!
