Virginia Tech redshirt freshman linebacker Eron Carter is no longer participating on the football team, an athletic department spokesman confirmed Monday.
The 6-foot-1, 231-pound Carter was working with the third team at mike linebacker this spring, behind Andrew Motuapuaka and Tavante Beckett. Senior Sean Huelskamp, who is injured this spring, will also be an option there in the fall.

Carter was a part of coach Justin Fuente's first signing class in 2016, picking on the Hokies on signing day itself that February. The Palatka, Florida, product was a three-star recruit, according to 247 Sports' composite rankings. He redshirted last fall.
Also no longer participating in football are a pair of walk-ons: linebacker Tre Hubbard and holder Wright Bynum.
Hubbard joined the team as a preferred walk-on last year out of Ocean Lakes High in Virginia Beach. He played in three games, finishing with one tackle and a forced fumble against Virginia.
Bynum, from Columbia, South Carolina, served as the team's holder on field goals and extra points last year.

My Take: Attrition like this is rarely surprising, but Tre Hubbard was very outspoken with his love for VT on social media. My guess is that he wasn't on track to earn a scholarship (despite dressing for most games and I believe participating on special teams) and so he is seeking a scholarship at another school.
