2019 "I wanna go fast!" Thread

New year, new Racin' thread. January bring about the Rolex 24 and right after that we hop in to NASCAR Speedweeks. The Roar before the 24 is this weekend and it is making me a little itchy. Also, this year we should find out the 2020 NASCAR Schedule when many of the contracts are up and we should hopefully, finally see some date reorganization. Give me that Martinsville night race already!

That's what she said?!

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

I'm here for the memes, I just stay for the football.

why was this photoshopped with the same quote?

Honestly I can't believe Rolex sponsors a NASCAR race. Something tells me there are not too many fans in the NASCAR stands wearing a Rolex

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

Pssst...it's not a Nascar race.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

What is the Rolex 24? Horse race? Bicycles? Catamarans?

It's a mixed field with different classes all racing at once.

They don't. The Rolex is IMSA(International Motor Sports Association), which is owned by NASCAR but Sports Car racing. It is quite a different crowd than NASCAR. Except for me of course.

Now, Cole, when you shift the gear and that little needle on the tach goes into the red and reads 9000 RPMs, that's bad!

Sitting in Martinsville's infield at the moment actually. CANT WAIT.

I opened this thinking it would be about the pace of the offense which has been slower than I hoped

Yep, came here to say the exact same thing.

Me try and start a discussion about football? Y'all lost your minds. I'm not French; I love cheese.

it's because Joe Lunardi anagrams to Dale Junior

Too bad Junior has no affiliation with the remnants of DEI...

Anagram connections run deeper than business connections, I'll have you know

So the football Schedule for this coming year leaves the dates open for Richmond Fall and Martinsville Fall. And just maybe since Duke is a Friday night, the Valleystar the night after it on that Saturday assuming the dates work out. I will take it.

And Dega weekend is @GT. Not too shabby.

And I started digging into old Daytona 500s on youtube last night (it's that time of year lol). I miss the sound of the old cars so bad. Sounded like fighter jets in the packs.

Any other open wheel racing fans out there? I'll be heading down to COTA in Austin for the IndyCar race this year, and I have been to the Formula 1 race there the last 4 years.

COTA is a great track and if get the chance to go I highly recommend it (night life in Austin is awesome, and all kinds of great BBQ)

I have not been to the Moto GP race there yet but definitely want to give it a shot. Formula 1 race is awesome and always packed.

I like it all, but one of our friends is super into Indy. He has been trying to get us to go to the Indy 500 for awhile now. The Sportscar racing is the more casual side of it all for me. Formula 1 is amazing in person but I have trouble with on TV.

Now, Cole, when you shift the gear and that little needle on the tach goes into the red and reads 9000 RPMs, that's bad!

I have been to the Indy 500 the last 3 years. My first year was the 100th running and it is absolutely insane. I highly recommend you find your way there for that race, it is definitely a spectacle.

I started watching F1 this year (something to do before the Cup race comes on) and I enjoyed it. The budgets those teams work of are staggering. Read a Business Insider article that said in 2014 that Ferrari's budget for that season was nearly $500mil. One season.

MotoGP races are pretty awesome. We went for two years when they still raced at Indy. Haven't been to COTA yet but we did the race at Mugello last year and are going to Le Mans this year. Motorcycle races in Europe are unreal, it's a four day party that happens to have some races. I cant think of anything in the US that compares and no famous person here gets the amount of adoration that Valentino Rossi gets in Europe. When Rossi got pole last year there was so much yellow smoke being shot off at the end of qualifying by the spectators that you could barely see him going around the track.

A local legend...I had the privilege of meeting Glen and Leonard many times; they are both prime role models in Auto Racing.

All this talk about Football around here but this is what I'm really excited for at the moment.

Anyone getting down on some overnight Daytona racing? The NBC coverage of this is fantastic.

Had it on before the bball game. As an F1 guy I appreciated Alonso putting in a long shift out front

In all this rain, the few minutes they are under green is amazing and hilarious.

I can't believe they are still under green right now

I'm really bummed that the Kannapolis Intimidators minor league baseball team is doing away with the Intimidators name. It's over some shit about Teresa owning the copyright to the name. There's a big twitter movement to rename them the Ironheads.

Teresa can fuck right off.

The 2019 Mustangs are so sexy, I'm too excited to see them hit the track.

Vroom Vroom

We also get the Toyota Supra in the Xfinity Series this year. Not a terrible look

Nick...need to start working your Busch giveaway magic and snag one of those cans made from one of Harvick's race-used cars.

Wait... what? How much aluminum do they use on those cars? Can't be much...

For as amazing as Jimmie is at everything he does, he is a WMD at Daytona.

Yeah that was not his best claim to Victory. It should be Bittersweet.

Jimmie Johnson with a "big announcement" this afternoon. Chances this (or 2020) being his last year?

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Wouldn't be surprised, all the big names are jumping ship as the money is drying up.

The way this is being advertised, I just don't see it being that. But I also do not know what it could be.

Now, Cole, when you shift the gear and that little needle on the tach goes into the red and reads 9000 RPMs, that's bad!

Seems to imply that he's gonna be on a show today. Only NASCAR-related show on the schedule seems to be the Dale Jr Download at 5.

I feel like if it was a major racing-related announcement that it would be given at a press conference, not on a random TV show appearance.

So this is admirable, but goes right along in line with the actual "major announcement" I was expecting.

Now, Cole, when you shift the gear and that little needle on the tach goes into the red and reads 9000 RPMs, that's bad!

That's... it? That's the "BIG ANNOUNCEMENT"?

This is why I don't Twitter.

Yeah, that was...underwhelming.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Welp. Bad enough the duels were on V-Day and I'm on the hook for dinner, but that looks pretty great.

Hell yeah. I probably won't be watching it until Friday at the earliest but I will definitely be catching it.

Now, Cole, when you shift the gear and that little needle on the tach goes into the red and reads 9000 RPMs, that's bad!

Sort of related: have y'all listened to DaleJr's podcast? I just listened to the Jeff Gordon episode and it was pretty damn good.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I enjoy tuning into the Dale Jr download when I have a chance, and Glass Case of Emotion with Ryan Blaney and Kim Coon is quite entertaining as well (although doesn't necessarily have anything to do with NASCAR)

Thursday is going to be spectacular. The Duels followed by this. I am ready!

This is an interesting read. Most notably about the 2020 schedule and the possibility of the Daytona 500 not being the season opener next year.

Daytona Media Day

Now, Cole, when you shift the gear and that little needle on the tach goes into the red and reads 9000 RPMs, that's bad!

Read that earlier today myself. Blown away that one is on the table...felt like that one was of the untouchable dates on schedule, like the Coke 600 on Memorial Day weekend.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I wonder if after the success if the ROVAL, they aren't thinking about doing it at Daytona. At that point I could easily see the 500 in summer under the lights, and the Rolex course being the second race.

Now, Cole, when you shift the gear and that little needle on the tach goes into the red and reads 9000 RPMs, that's bad!

Even with attendance down for the July race, I couldn't see them doing that there. Pocono's a different story. I've read that they're willing to do it, so long as they get to keep their oval (troval?) race as well.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I absolutely agree they would not give up an oval race but wondered somehow if Daytona would end up with a 3rd week somehow...

Duel #1...LET'S GO!!

Well...#1 was uneventful. Let's see if #2 delivers.

Bottom line last night was sluggish for some reason. Man I hope they can figure that out before Sunday.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

I think it will be different with 40 cars on track instead of around 20. If all 40 are in line single file around the top, I'll just have to drink more beer.

Logano's move at the end of the 2nd Duel was unreal though...

Chase Elliott earned a mountain of respect from me last night. It never really worked but damnit he was giving it all he had.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Double post... delete.

Only delete if we go to Daytona this year.

Now, Cole, when you shift the gear and that little needle on the tach goes into the red and reads 9000 RPMs, that's bad!

Let's go!

I watched Unrivaled last night. Brought back so many great memories. The hardest I laughed was when Rusty flat out said, "Jeff didn't pay his dues like the rest of us. He didn't earn his success."

anyone else going to the race this weekend? ill be there sunday, this will be my 4th annual. whooooo boogity boogity boogity were going racing son!

#Bapn ain't EZ

Wanna win put boobie in! Let boobie spin coach!

I wish but it is not happening this year. We will be back, though.
