Saturday marks the ACC's sixth title contest and first outside of Florida. Jacksonville hosted three and Tampa the most recent two, but after an encouraging 2005 debut – more than 72,000 watched Florida State upset Virginia Tech -- the event struggled. Matchups such as Georgia Tech-Wake Forest in 2006 and Virginia Tech-Boston College in '07 and '08 drew embarrassing crowds far smaller than the announced ticket sales.
Not Saturday. With public sales approaching 50,000 and participating schools Virginia Tech and Florida State selling 10,000 each, ACC associate commissioner for football Michael Kelly expects a crowd at, or near, the 73,778-seat capacity of the Carolina Panthers' stadium.
