A little help?
Hey all, I have off Thursday through Monday this week. In that time I want to dedicate myself to comprising enough information to squash these silly arguments about regarding our fanbase. The powers at be chose us for monetary reasons above all else. I want to back up that reasoning as well as give you all ammo going forward. What I'm looking for is the following:
Information about each school: attendance, alumni base, stadium capacity, seat fulfillment, donations, etc.
Demographic Info: major alumni outlets in VA are Northern Virinia, Richmond, Roanoke, and Hampton Roads. Any access to avg income and cost of living. Both Manhattan, KS and Boise, ID are both the only major cities in the area but including places like Topeka will only help.
Airfare costs: avg costs from each major airport for these fanbases
Bowl histories: the last 5 bowls will do in terms of attendance, ticket sales, location, etc for each school
It's an F ton and I'm willing to research all myself but any help is appreciated. Feel free to email me at DTDHokie@gmail.com with any and all info. Thanks!

The methodology for this was suspect #
I don't need to search for University of Michigan Football because I know where the sites are. Another example of the flaws in that report are evident when you look at the fact that it says Auburn has more fans that Alabama. Auburn is the #2 football school in AL.
While I don't doubt VT has more fans, I wouldn't rely on this data at all.
Boise State #
Heres a quick link shoing regional chapters on the alumni associations for Boise State..hint its not a lot

UVA: Jefferson's biggest mistake
good work #
We have more than 140 Alumni Chapters. Both schools DO have a majority of their alumni in a 300 mile radius but that doesnt take away from the fact that we have many, many more overall.

CommonCensus Map Project #
From the link StLHokie posted... http://www.commoncensus.org/index.php
I just realized that since this "census" is updated with info from people going to this site that it really could be easily skewed by fanbases visiting more than others. I looked at Jacksonville FL (lived there for 7 yrs and hope to go back soon) out of curiousity and of course Florida was #1 but saw that UVA was 4th with 4 votes and VT only had 2. There is a pretty big VT Alumni association there and never saw a UVA fan in the city. Imagine if that VT alumni association was given the link and they all registered as fans, then VT would be 2nd in the whole city (not true). Polls are only as good as the data put into it...
btw I put my old Jacksonville address in and now VT has 3 votes for Jax...stupid uva...
I was silly #
I bought into the enthusiasm of everyone wanting to go to the SB. At this point im far from disappointed by any means, but any further defense would be moot. I have however looked at some of the switching around that our bid has caused. Along with the heaps of cash that two BCS bowls bring in our ACC brethern have also been privileged by their placement in subsequent bowls. NCSU has already sold their allotment as they will be in Charlotte (2 hour drive), FSU plays in Orlando (2-3) hour drive, and a smaller school like Wake will be in Nashville versus godawful El Paso. It still sucks for GT and UNC to be in El Paso and Shreveport respectively but I think some of the shifting has helped nonetheless. Youre welcome UVA haha.
