Some thoughts on the VT Spring Game from a Central Region High School Coach

I had the opportunity to talk to my friend who coaches in the Central Region tonight and he passed along some thoughts (all very positive) about the VT Spring Game. He attended with a couple of his players and here are some highlights of what he said:

- The VT Staff did an outstanding job organizing this event. In the past, recruits had, for the most part been on their own, but not this time.

- Coach Beamer spent a lot of time meeting face to face with recruits and their families which was a change from years past. In fact, the coaching staff in general went out of there way to spend some one on one time with each and every recruit. He really went on and on about the job the VT Staff did. Lots of energy and excitement from the VT Coaching staff, lots of positive vibes.

- The recruits had a blast at the Spring Game. Lots of UVA jokes being thrown around, some of the recruits that attended their spring game commented, "VT had more recruits at their spring game then UVA had fans." Some comments about UVA being a joke.

- Recruits very impressed by the VT fans. The turnout and the fact that so many fans knew who they were and asked for autographs. Again, comparison to UVA and UVA fans were made.

- Mike London has an enormous hill to climb if he's going to put UVA in a position to seriously contend with VT. Right now, the UVA administration isn't doing what they need to do to help London change the perception of UVA into that of a serious football school. Gameday experience in C-ville still a joke

- The Locker Room was amazing, really hit a home run with the kids, they loved the amenities in the player's lounge. Lots of parents impressed with the academic support facilities, another area VT is light years in front of UVA.

- My friend feels that VT is in great position with the State's #1 player, most certainly the team to beat. Thinks that VT is well positioned with a lot of in-state players

- On that note, believes VT is in great position with 3-4 Juniors in the Central Region who will be highly rated and recruited prospects in 2012/2013.

- J. C. Coleman's verbal on the field was truly a surprise by a lot in attendance but went over really well... J.C. immediately started recruiting for VT.

- Talent level in the Central Region is on the rise and is likely why Shane Beamer was put in this area. The competition and the athletes in the area continues to improve.
