VT Running Game
After reading just about all the posts, blogs, and comments throughout this website, I have come to realize how little I know about football and I have been following NFL/NCAA football all my life.
Here is my question:
It seems that the VT OC like to run Wilson and Oglesby off-tackle, sweeps, and end around a great deal of the time. Why isn't there more of a "up the gut" or between the tackles running game? Some of Evans' and Williams' big runs came from running plays between the tackles. Is it the lack of confidence in our OL or the RB's? I just don't understand.

Yes sir. #
I agree wholeheartedly... Wilson also needs to learn to not always have the 'big play' in mind. It causes too much dancing around in the backfield and occasionally causes us to lose 3-5 yards instead of gaining 3-5 in a crucial situation.
No lie, I bleed M&O.
Here's my thought... #
I also don't have the biggest football background, but if I were to use some of my common sense I'd base it on the fact that running up the gut requires more carrier vision. When you run off tackle theres always the oppurtunity to bounce it outside. But when you run between the tackles, its all about finding the holes, and I'm not sure DW has quite that vision yet.

DW needs to trust #
Trust his blockers more and follow their lead. Learn to time the burst of speed and when to push the power down.
