Time to Sack Up

Like many of you I have spent the last few days playing enough NCAA to warrant the OC job all the while forgetting how valuable opposable thumbs were. Run the option, throw deep, rinse and repeat until the scoreboard flies through numbers like a slot machine. I’m sure your game plan is different but in the end we all run around the room screaming WINNING like a Charlie Sheen interview. Herein lays the problem. Football is not as simple as it looks. I can not imagine what it takes to get players both mentally and physically prepared from week to week. Our football team has a lot of unanswered questions and as much as we pontificate changes and adjustments its up to the coaching staff to execute. The season still has much promise as the team heads towards the front lines of the coastal race. Therefore, I implore you to breathe. To this point many have unfairly complained how complacent and spoiled fans have become, myself included. That shit has to end now as it’s time to sack up.

This week Lane hosts a Miami team most consider underperforming yet hungry. A loss to either team means 0-2 in the ACC and a further drop in the Conference hierarchy. Neither of us wants that and is gunning to correct the ship. Frank Almighty told the boys in the locker room post Clemson game that we are still going to ACC Championship Game and I’m apt to believe him. By God I hope you do too. At 4-1 we’re still in the driver’s seat seeing as how not too long ago we were in the same predicament against a pesky Matt Ryan led Boston College squad. The scoreboard should tell you how that ended in December.

Coming back to earth now let’s refocus on the hurdle directly in front. Miami “elitists” cite Virginia Tech as some subpar program unworthy of their 5 time National Championship laden fingers. Nonetheless, this isn’t the 80’s and not even Nevin Shapiro’s freebies could resuscitate them after 2001. So regardless of what they say this game has been a decent rivalry that has transpired since the days in the Big East. Both teams always come out swinging hoping to demolish the other’s post season hopes. I personally look forward to this game every year bringing the hate train to station. It should be an exciting match up.

This is where we the fans come in. Last week I gave lofty notions of what to expect from our fan base. For that I am sorry. Obviously some are going to cheer a little louder than others as the Natty Lights are still keeping bodies warm and vocal cords ripe. For those left still frozen and hoarse I ask that we make some adjustments going into this week. We’ll go blue in the face wondering what scheme or positional changes are on the horizon but what we can do is just have fun. Being Hokies we leave commencement with a Master’s in that shit. All I ask is you continue to have fun, cheer your brains out, and stay positive. No one likes a Debbie Downer. We’ll leave ESPN to swing the sword of negativity where they might. In the end however we love our team and fellow fans. Stay hungry, you guys.
