Non-Tech Things, What are you looking forward to this season?

It's August, schools have opened or will open practice this week. In addition to following Tech's every step, I think a lot of us are general fans, follow other teams, and/or pay attention to the national championship races. Aside from the Hokies, what else are you looking forward to this fall?

Me:

  1. The openers: Michigan-Alabama, NC State-Tennessee, Clemson-Auburn, Boise-Sparty
  2. Will USC actually be good? They're talented, but they're coached by Lane Kiffin, who I actually thought did a decent job, given the circumstances, in Oakland before leaving Tennessee in a lurch. The majority of the media have begun writing his face turn. They should be favored in every game, and if they avoid injuries they could run the table.
  3. Can John L avoid taking Arkansas from national contender to national disaster?
  4. Texas? /pokes Bevo Are they alive?
  5. Will WVU compete with the Big 12's elite?
  6. How good does Ohio State look in year one under Urban Meyer?
  7. Will PSU be competitive?

USC and PSU

One entering sanctions, one exiting sanctions. One loses star RB Redd, one gains star RB Redd. One was able to dominate the PAC-12 in the latter half of 2011, one faltered in the latter half of 2012. These are the two story lines I'll be following, although I probably will feel like throwing up by the end of the season with so much PSU coverage.

I'm also interested in Matt Barkley, as I envision Logan Thomas will be the 2013 Matt Barkley (*crosses fingers*).

I'm looking forward to another season of SEC knob-slobbing ending in a SEC vs. SEC championship game with a final score of 3-2.

I'm looking forward to ...

the first UVA basketball season ticket ad on TV....this is usually aired just after they realize that they aren't in contention for the ACCCG....which incidentally is somewhere around the first of October. It's a wonderful indicator of their giving up on the football season.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Interested to see

How the teams that are expected to have a big drop-off do. (Boise, OkieState, Baylor, and others)

Logan 3:16

well

hopefully michigan and denard will suck

VT-UVA falls on my birthday weekend every year. I'm always given a nice gift.

Tyrod did it Mikey! Tyrod did it!

I'm looking forward to all of the upsets that happen to teams ranked higher than us.

#VT4SEC

Always the best.

West End the first weekend back at school. There were always two top 25 teams playing on the big TV (there are probably more big TVs now), students were buzzing, football season was back. I thought the same thing each year, one of those teams would lose, and Tech was going to move up in the rankings.

Beat Alabama.

Somewhat Serious/Somewhat Not

1. FSU. Back? Maybe?
2. Will Taj Boyd get better or plateau? Weight was a major issue for him last year, and he came into camp at 220.
3. How quickly is it going to take the Buckeyes to install Urban's system? I think they get another NC before Braxton Miller graduates. (Yes, I understand that is a VERY small timetable.)
4. Derek Dooley's pants.
5. How will Penn State respond? New coaching staff, plus 9 (and counting) transfers out of the program.
6. How well will the Cousins place in the BIGXII? I think they have a legit chance to win the conference, although they'll have to get past OU. Similarly, how will TCU perform with a full BCS-conference schedule?
7. RUTGERS. If they're ever going to win the Big (L)East, this is the year. We'll know if new HC Kyle Flood has figured out their QB situation by September 22, when the Scarlet Knights go to Fayetteville.
8. Can U-Dub continue it's upward trend under Steve Sarkesian? Keith Price should be a house-hold name by October.
9. Auburn. Can they find a way to keep up with LSU and Bamer in the West? Who is going to help take the pressure off Onterio McCaleb in the running game? More importantly, will I be abe to get any PhD work done during the fall? PAAAAAWWWWLLLLLL, WILL I GET TO SEE TOOMER'S GET ROLLLLLLED? (Immahangupandlissen)
10. MARTIN SCALES WINNING THE HEISMAN. DUH.
