Opinion: Best Section of Lane?
Let me preface this with obviously take the North endsone out of it, but I'm pondering my season tickets and I'm wondering what others thoughts are. Ive been in the West stands for over a decade now and really have no other experience.

West is booooooooring. The #
West is booooooooring. The seats are all good, but holy shit do the people there act like UVA grads (at least in my experience). I'm not a fan of end-zone-seating so I'd go with East, myself
Hey now... #
My parents' seats are West. And I take offense to the UVA comment. We jump. We proudly yell "Let's Go!" in order to hear "HOKIES!" back. We do the wave with the rest of Lane, don't we? UVA people NEVER do the wave... and they don't jump or yell for that matter.
Anyway, we've always had a great experience on the West side (except at this year's Clemson game, but a bunch of our normal section-mates sold their tickets to rude people, so it doesn't count).
And if you're bringing the family, you want to be on the West side. My parental unit started taking me when I was 5 years old, and it has remained family friendly. I've also found that West seats are easier to sell...
Added bonus: on hot game days, you're in the shade! Your kids and wife will be much happier people on those hot days.
If you choose the East, don't forget the sunscreen and the sunglasses for the whole family! And be prepared to leave early when they're miserably hot...
Good luck picking seats! Don't forget, they're reseating Lane this March...
Sorry, didn't mean to imply #
Sorry, didn't mean to imply that *everyone* in West sucks, but every time I've sat in West, it's because my parents got tickets from one of their friends who couldn't/didn't want to go, and since the guy spends $$$$$ they were *really* good seats, but everyone's a stodgy old cooter that close to the field. I seriously got yelled at by some stuck up old lady for jumping up and down and screaming after we scored a TD. So, obviously my experience in West is different from yours :P
I got ya. I just wanted to #
I got ya. I just wanted to point out that West side does have it's perks.
And yes, everyone on the West side is not awesome (every team has some bad fans), but generally the higher up you are the better it gets. We're row CCC, so we're good. Less money up there.
Yeah, we were like, row K. #
Yeah, we were like, row K. With 8 season tix. And Club passes. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Redic, but snooty as hell
East>West>>>>UVA #
East is a little rowdier and louder. One, because it has more people and two because the West has higher concentration of big $ donors, players' family, and recruits. So it tends to be a little less intense. That said, the least intense part of Lane is 10x more intense than the most intense part of uva's stadium. You won't find any ties or dingleberries swaying to music written 2 centuries ago.
I had seats in the back of the west my first year as a season ticket holder. It was still a great time and plenty of bourbon drinking/jumping/etc. Just not as fiery as the east. We dropped our donation and have been way up in the east for a while. It's blue collar as all hell as awesome up there. We are gonna try and move up some this year but stay in the east.
Bottom line, you can't go wrong. My only preference is to not be near a visitors section. A lot of people share that so when you are picking seats this year, don't be surprised if you can get a lot closer to the field in a section bumping up against visitors.
Im going with the East #
Iv been in all 3 sections and i say East but maybe thats because the tickets i had in the south were nose bleed seats for a 2003 uconn game. Then the West experience i had was the freezing everyones nuts off 08 duke game when macho sealed the deal with a pick 6, i had seats almost right under the press box but i was on the left side close to Hokie Vision so that was good. For the past 2 seasons and hopefully this coming season i have had seats in the East stands in gate 8 section 9 row Y seats 21-25 dead center 50 yardline and only a few sections up. I saw one of Tyrods last home games in 2010 at the duke game. And in 2011 I saw Logan's break out performance against miami in the same seats and it was my birthday and i bought LT3's jersey before the game. So i think all those experiences may make me biased on the topic but i have to go with East.
H_O_K_I_E_S-HOKIES!
There's pros and cons to each side. #
From my experience the West Stands have more of the older donors so while there's a smaller chance of the crazy obnoxious drunks, there is a greater chance of you being yelled at for "standing up too much" or being loud.
Also one other thing, the shade provided by the press box during the day games can be a life saver sometimes if you are on the West side.
If anybody in Lane #
EVER says anything about a hokie being loud, I would hope it would be in a positive light. Hopefully anyone saying anything negative will be wearing UVA gear or will be quickly ushered out of the stadium.
I've only been on the west side one time, 50 yard line, about 10 rows below the press box (a generous friend gave me the tickets) for the Ohio game a few years ago. I thought the seats were perfect.... But I also remember sitting in the east stands for a 1980 30-0 shellac job on the wahoos....hard to get better than that!
Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.
East by far. #
The closer Northwest you go in the East stands are reserved for students so anywhere on the outskirts of that is what I prefer. During the Clemson game I was in the midst of the student section unfortunately out of my element. Some of the kids where whiney asshats. I hate to say it but I'm more than sure I was somewhat similar at 20 pumped full of Beast. Therefore, I like to stay just outside to take in the energy and still be a part of the fun while being surrounded by people that are only browning out hahaha.

either side #
between the 40's for the first 20 or so rows is gonna be more lame, don't let the those pro east make you think any different.
a few more older in the west, but unless you give a butt load of money, you likely won't be near them.

South - VTCC sections #
Obviously speaking as a former cadet I must say I never sit for football games!! We get to crowd surf the hokie bird!! TV time every thursday night! Loudest section and we were probably the only sober ones in the stadium. By all means you can drink but we have blast and I always enjoy the complementary turkey legs given to me here and there! By the way we get the other team's mascot to crowd surf us sometimes... and we get the cannon fired on our section during the pre-game... just saying...

South #
Personally i like the south endzone seats...been sitting there since 08. Perks, you can see every play developing no matter which endzone the play is happening. Downside, touchdowns in the north endzone are a little far away. Good people, some rowdy, some not. I will be requesting south endzone again.
It's a great day to be a Hokie!
