Holland Fisher Commits to Virginia Tech

Holland Fisher a highly recruited safety/line backer out of Clover Hill, and a teammate of Joel Caleb's, committed to Virginia Tech this evening. Holland held offers from a number of schools including Tennessee, Virginia, UNC, and NC State. Tim Harris another Virginia Tech target who was in attendance at Virginia Tech's junior day along with Holland Tweeted the following just before 9:00 PM Saturday evening.

Alex Gleitman of Eleven Warriors.com confirmed the commitment Harris was Tweeting about was Holland's to the Hokies.

Holland is Tech's first commitment of the 2013 cycle and he's ranked 72nd on the Rivals.com Rivals100. Welcome to HokieNation Holland!

nice

open field tackler, with speed and ball skills.

caleb .... not a qb.

Nice start

Looking forward to seeing this class develop - Fisher is an excellent way to kick this party off.

Let's find some OLs.

Row Z forever.
@AdamAbramson

He's not necessarily at a position of need, but Fisher is arguably a bigger "get" than we had in the entire 2012 class. With him on board early, and hopefully Kendall Fuller, this could end up being an all-time great Hokie class despite fewer available scholarships.

What's Important Now

@zmaynard

so...

now that he is a VT commit does Mike Farrel drop him out of the Rivals 100 per his usual practice?

Just kidding. Sort of.

This is an awesome commitment to start the class with. Glad this guy is joining Hokie Nation

Nice

Pretty great grab. But I always get nervous when kids sign so early, before they can even go through the process.

@scobeard

38-0 bro

fwiw

fisher was perceived to be a future hokie .. this came as no surprise and it's a great catch so early. i think that some of these kids would rather not deal with the crap of being recruited ..

especially

the higher rated recruits .. maybe some of these kids dig on the attention .. some types (like me) would want to wrap something like this up sooner than later so that they can move on with life .. it's a big decision but i couldn't imagine getting calls and visits for a year (or longer) until a decision is made .. and sometimes after unless you just shut them down .. kendall fuller for example, i'd get some visits in, make a spring game or so, get in a fall visit, narrow the list, and commit to virginia tech 30 minutes before kickoff of the clemson game :)

I'd want the attention

But that's just my ego talking.

Height, Size, Speed, Hands

6'2", 205lbs, and runs 4.5? Damn, and that's before he gets Gentified. Ok, he's got enough skills to play anywhere from backer to free safety to wide receiver. If he has coverage skills, hell, he could be corner. Very nice get early.

Coaches are telling him safety or Whip.

Just where the 6-foot-1 205-pound prospect will play once he gets to Blacksburg remains to be seen. He wants to play safety in college, but coaches have talked to him about playing whip linebacker. Nature might be the decider.

"Depending on my body and how much weight I gain will determine what position I play," he said.

Fisher plays middle linebacker at Clover Hill, although he said coaches might move him around on defense quite a bit his senior season. He'll also play running back in a new offense Fisher described as a "tight pistol" formation.

He said he'll probably still take a couple of his official visits, but the Hokies are where his heart has always been.

"I always liked Virginia Tech," he said. "Growing up, I always watched them on TV. Every time I played a game, I always picked Virginia Tech. I was a Hokies fan since birth."

Beat Alabama.

Sounds good

Including last years LB haul, VT has a lot of potential in the positions of Backer, Whip, and safety. The future looks good, much better than the current status, in which VT has no true Whip and a Backer that is average with no one pushing him. The competition for starting Whip and safety should be a good one to watch in 2-3 years.
