For anyone that wants to talk about it...
Full release is here: http://www.courant.com/sports/hc-ncaa-penn-state-release-20120723,0,3754...
Highlights:
- $60 million fine
- Four-year bowl/postseason ban
- Reduce 10 initial and 20 total scholarships each year for a four-year period
- Wins from 1998-2011 vacated
- Five years probation
- Penn State players can transfer immediately eligible if in good academic standing
To further integrate the athletics department into the university, Penn State will be required to enter into an “Athletics Integrity Agreement” with the NCAA. It also must adopt all Freeh Report recommendations and appoint an independent, NCAA-selected Athletics Integrity Monitor, who will oversee compliance with the agreement.
The B1G will release its decision as well today.

One-year Death Penalty
Would have been less severe, but I agree with everything laid down on the program.
I know what your all asking yourselves...
and the answer is yes - Penn State fans have officially begun comparing these sanctions to Nazi Germany

Agree with the penalties
Actually, they are less severe than I thought they would be as there were rumors going around that the entire 2012 football season would be suspended. As it is, they get to play but just won't get to play in any bowl games, etc.
And wow....some of the Penn St. fans just don't get the seriousness of what happened, do they?
PSU football is over
they will be irrelevant for at least 8 years.
I feel like its fair
As a former PSU fanatic, I feel as though the NCAA imposed sanctions are just and fair. I'm a little saddened by the vacated wins, considering they occurred durring my era of nittany lion support and what it does for joepa's (RIP) wins record. But now that im a tech student and all in with Beamer and co. It honestly doesn't matter for me. I really just wish they would have left the statue standing, because all things considered joepa did so much good (money donated etc.) for the school it should ( I know it doesn't) remain as a tribute to all his teams and the success they had. Overall it may seem a little harsh, but it's what needed to be done.
They had to remove the statue and erase him from the record books. Despite doing so much for so many, he made a horrible decision when he decided to value the possible PR hit of the situation higher than the safety of children. That act is about as despicable as they come.
I just hope that once the penalties are levied everyone can come together and be there to support the true victims, the children. I know it would be tough to see the bigger picture if our beloved program was in the same situation but the lack of perspective from some of the PSU fanatics is troubling.
Don't forget
Although the circumstances were obviously much different, I thought now would be a good time to remind everyone of Penn State's reaction at their spring game after the shooting at VT:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6a/Penn_State_2007_Sprin...
also, dont forget the classless halloween costumes donned by psu students. 2 sides to the coin there.
Fuck, you really had to remind me about that, didn't you? Thanks -_-
i really dont think the psu crowd gets it. like, AT ALL.
Agreed 100%
This is a slap on the wrist. USC got a two year postseason ban, PSU got 4. The $60 mil fine is 1/3 of total donations to the school last year alone. Vacated wins dont matter for shit. The scholly losses will have the most effect, rendering them uncompetitive for the foreseeable future, but hey, they deserve nothing less.
The night JoePa was fired and their students rioted, I thought to myself; "would that be us?" Maybe, but I'm confident we as a fanbase would not have taken things this far. An "honor guard" protecting the statue? Look at their message boards, trying to turn things around on the victims, insulting their character and questioning why it took so long for any of them to come forward, shameful. They still wont admit there's any evidence against anybody and they think this is all the media attacking them and their deified coach, while the trial is seen as a grand scheme by the victims to get paid.
Shame on you Penn State, you as a fanbase are making this worse than it has to be. I hope you go 0-12 for the next 14 years.
Looking down Penn State's roster...
Who hits the doors, who stays? Do schools start making contacts (overt or covert) to current players? The current roster is essentially free agents. Does VT stand to reap any transfers from State College? Interesting days ahead in PSU-land.
The B1G has come down with their punishment
http://tracking.si.com/2012/07/23/penn-state-big-ten-penalty-bowl-revenu...
No bowl revenue for you PSU
I think the penalties are fair, however, I would have also liked a television ban for at least a year. I very much agree with the vacation of wins as the school made it very clear that Mr. Paterno breaking Eddie Robinson's all-time wins record was the only thing that was important to them.
Penalties are fair
I hope that 60 million is going to the victims or to charities and not to the NCAA's wallet.
Also remember that the forums are a small percentage of the PSU community. While their words are horrid and reflect badly on PSU, I hope they're not representing the majority.
PSU has had their high points and their low points. Right now this is a low point.
BIGGER NEWS: THE RANGERS GET RICK NASH. YEAH BABY!!!
Fair, yet Unfair
For the gravity of the crimes allowed, it is fair. For the football players, alumni, fans, and people of Pennsylvania, it sucks and is completely unfair. They had no idea that Sandusky was a criminal, yet their whole Fall season of happiness has been ripped from them. Could you imagine being a PSU fan, or if this happened at VT? VT football gets me through year after year, always looking forward to Labor Day weekend. Now that's gone for PSU fans. All that's left is sadness and disappointment.
Let's face it, PSU is not at the advantage USC was when they got their 2 year ban. USC was still able to recruit, because they're the prime school of the PAC-10/12. The B1G has OSU, Wisconsin, UMich, and Nebraska. USC does not have the stigma PSU will have. What recruit wants to go play for the school known for 12 year old boy rape? PSU football is over, at least it will be irrelevant for the next couple of decades. This is why PSU fans are having a hard time handling it.
RICK NASH BABY! KREIDERBOMB!
And...
that sounds like my gas WHEN MICHAEL DEL ZOTTO SCORED THE GAME 7 GAME WINNER AGAINST THE CAPS. KREIDERBOMB!
I haven't read the report
I do not know the facts versus implications about the actions of the administration and Paterno. I do know the administration of ANY school will do all they can to protect the school from bad press. You could say PR is a big part of their job. I think most of us would try to protect those we love.
However, they should not interfere with the investigation of criminal actions. They can protect the school and at the same time cooperate with authorities. Did they try to interfere with investigations or just try to keep it out of the press?
I think the penalties are harsh and swift. They have been investigating other schools for football related problems for a long time and have yet to take action (Miami & UNC for example). Why did they do this so quickly against PSU?
The bigger "point" the NCAA is trying to make, as stated by the head guy, "is that schools should not place football ahead of the interests of young people". There is a lot to be argued in that statement. It seems this action by the NCAA is an attempt to protect itself against allegations of incomptence and lack of institutional control over major college football programs.
Maybe it will work at Penn State for a while but I don't think it will really get to other schools. Most schools will continue to make sure they don't get caught and if there are similar allegations at their school, will quickly cut ties with the individual. I am sure it has happened before.
