Clemson or FSU: who would rather have another shot at this season?

Assuming that we have a good season and win the Coastal this year, which team would rather play in Charlotte? We already know that the schedule prohibited what should have been a conference game against the Noles (Maryland, really?).

For me the answer is clear: Clemson

Losing to one team three times in the span of two seasons is extremely aggravating. I frankly would love to see if the changes made to the offense will make an impact against the Tigers, compared to the O'Cainspring days of old. It wasn't too long ago that Beamer's Hokies were 5-3 against them, and now they're 5-6. I really hope two sets of triple losses against Clemson won't bookend his career as Head Coach, whenever he may retire.

Clemson

Absolutely. They feel like they've regained the throne they think is rightfully theirs. We need to dismantle their hopes, squash their dreams, and make Dabo go cry in their little graveyard.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

I agree, Clemson

They haven't just beaten us three straight times, they've pretty much had their way with us.

Our biggest loss to FSU since 1989 was by 17 in the 1999-2000 MNC game. We've lost 3 straight to Clemson, all of them by at least 20. That is the team we have more to prove against, and that's the team I'd rather face in the ACCCG.

CLEMSON. I WOULD LOVE FOR CLEMSON TIGER TOM TO SHUT THE HELL UP.

I love Virginia Tech, regardless of the outcome of every game.

Let's play Clemson

I just hope the fans show up in force for every games this season and witness Grimes' coached OL destroying every defensive linemen enroute to Charlotte. Then when the Tigers line up against a very tough, tip-of-the-spear OL, I want them to be shitting in their pants on the first snap. Then Dabo can wail about being thumped by the Hokies, 76-3. The 3 points coming because Bud Foster allowed the defense to rest.

I support Logan Thomas and make no apologies for it.

Can we beat both?

Like how about beating Clemson in the ACC Championship Game, and then FSU in the BCS National Championship Game (I belive an at large can still get put in the new play-off system). Also if we beat Notre Dame in the BCS semi's that would make the perfect season for me (I grew up near South Bend and if you listen really close you could always hear a group of people circle jerking over Notre Dame and their football history). I mean I would probably be crying tears of joy solidly until the next spring game if such a scenario happened.

Truth

Honestly though, probably 90% of Jim Mora's famous quotes probably apply to us after this past season...

Let's fix that this coming season shall we?

Yep you're right

I thought they started in 2013 for some reason, so my perfect season isn't possible this year, but it's still technically possible to be able to beat FSU and Clemson next year and that would still be outstanding.

Pretty certain this would shatter the entire Planet Earth to its core.

It would probably have to be the other way

Say that Clemson and Florida State both go undefeated other than against each other. I'd say Clemson is more likely to get a berth in the BCS at 11-1 than FSU would, on the strength of playing both Georgia and South Carolina.

In any case, I would find it extremely unlikely, considering the pedestal that ESPN has built for the SEC. No way we don't see at least one SEC school in the MNC game this season.

Yeah, but

we're talking about my wet dreams here, not reality. You know the ones where we return the favor of the 2000 Sugar Bowl.

GO HOKIES!

I have no problem saying that this was my favorite thing in this thread.

Also, to actually answer the question

I'd rather beat FSU, because the 2000 Sugar Bowl was a traumatizing part of my childhood. The 7 year old me was forced to go to bed with VT leading at the end of the 3rd quarter (it's quite possible my dad knew what was coming next partially because he has a cynical view of the sports world being a Hokie, Cubs, and Vikings fan), and let's just say the next morning was not a good one. I still hate FSU because of this and consider them our second and a half rival behind LOLUVA and our half rival (because we don't play them in football anymore) WVU.

no way

i am also a Vikings, Cubs, and Hokies fan...sports heartbreak is my middle name

Hokies and Cubs, but at least I have the Steelers and Pens to fall back on for my W's

Yea, but when the Cubs or Hokies finally win the big one (it'll happen, I still believe) then the party will be that much bigger.

It's all about being hopeful...

I always believe that it's going to be Tech's year in the upcoming season no matter what. Call me overly optimistic, an idiot, I don't care...

This is our year. Every year. Until we lose. Then I start thinking of scenarios where it could still be our year.

Don't worry, I've been right there too... you're not alone.

Could happen if we played Penn State.... Too soon?

I think South Park proved that... "Penn St likes to go in a little behind at half time."

I wouldn't call you either of those things

I mean I do the same thing for both the Hokies and Cubs, I feel like it's a large part of being a fan.

I'm exactly the same way. I get swept up in the preseason hype machine and I just get so excited that my thought process reduces itself to something like, "Of course we're gonna win every game. We're gonna beat Bama by 20 and Logan will find a way to bulldoze all 11 defenders on 1 play." /cut to crystal ball raising

It's a brutal thing to live with. And time does not seem to have taught me anything.

MV7, MV5, LT3, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

CLEMSON

I live in Charlotte and I can't stand those smug Clemson fans. I would love for VT to shut Dabo up. I only have the game where BeamerBall reigned down in Clemson. it seems so long ago.

That is all.

Like UGA, UF, and USCe we already routinely beat our in-state ACC rivals, isn't that good enough for the SEC to invite us?

Clemson first, FSU second but it could really go either way with me. The hurt with the Noles goes back to 99 obviously (Chris Ellis pick-sixing freshman Christian Ponder was one of the most satisfying moments of my fandom), but damn if Clemson isn't so much easier to hate after beating us 3 times with Dabo. It's a toss-up

Its gives me more satisfaction beating FSU, but it hurts more losing to Clemson. So take that as you will

Who would you like to see Tech beat out of the entire NCAA?
Being from WV, Id love nothing more than to see a final scoreboard of: TECH- 63, wvu- 6

Clemson

Love to get them at home again. I wish they were our crossover opponent.

Who's their cross-over right now? Wouldn't be a bad idea for the ACC with Maryland leaving. Maybe make UVA's be Syracuse, switch Pitt to BC and then give us Clemson.

Rip his freaking head off!

I believe GT is their cross-over opponent. Pretty good game each year, unlike us and BC.

Clemson's got GT - no way that is switching. I'd love to get rid of BC, but it wouldn't shock me if we were stuck with them forever...

It was a catch

Let Pitt take BC

I'd gladly take Syracuse. That was always an exciting series.
