It looks like Loeffler has already gotten started recruiting. According to these Tweets, David Cornwell (QB, 2014) has gotten an offer from Virginia Tech.

He also seems to have a bit of interest in the school/area as well.
Really want to get up to Virginia Tech #Football #Leoffler #Hokies #BeachFlow— DC5 (@DavidCornwell5) January 22, 2013
Doesn't Blacksburg just sound like a sick place?— DC5 (@DavidCornwell5) January 22, 2013
Whether or not Virginia Tech had interest in him before Loeffler came remains a mystery. Loeffler was his primary recruiter when he was still at Auburn according to Rivals. This could be just as big of a recruit as Da'Shawn Hand for 2014. Let's hope both of these guys will be in town for Junior Day in February. The 2012 Junior day garnered commitments from Holland Fisher and Cequan Jefferson so we've had success there. I'm very excited to see how the three new coaches fair on the recruiting trail, and this is a good start.

One more thing
What is #BeachFlow for? Am I missing something?
Apparently Blacksburg got moved to VA Beach...still cold as hell though.
Cold as balls
But it is still closer to any beach than Oklahoma is, plus you have the new river and cascades to play in.
#BeachFlow
Bravo Sir.
Well done. +1
Frank Beamer knows a thing or two about having a good time on the beach:
funny
thats just embarrassing.
hell no dude, that shit is awesome
Alright....
Alright, Alright, Alright...you guys are right it is pretty cool.
you're damn right it's AWESOME ... hopefully we see cfb doing that on the evening of august 31, 2013 #BEATBAMA
So do we
start #BEAMERDANCE?
I like that moniker better than "The Dougie" anyways
WTH is BeachFlow
Hey if it gets him here I would play along but...does he realize that Auburn is way closer to the beach than VT?
Curious...
How would Loeffler be recruiting already? The announcement from VT was that the three new coaches start on Friday, Jan. 25. If they're not yet officially coaches, how can they recruit? I wonder if the #Loeffler tag is just to indicate that he's excited to work with Loeffler, and maybe Shane or someone else is recruiting him.
From the rivals page, it looks like Loeffler was his primary recruiter at Auburn. I am guessing VT just extended the offer, but once Loeffler starts, he will resume being the primary recruiter.
Most likely. I'm thinking though they haven't officially started they've talked with Frank and Cav about recruits and agreed to extend his offer. Loeffler will then be allowed to talk to him Friday I guess.
Makes sense. Glad to see Loeffler having an impact, directly or indirectly, on the program!
OK
Have we ever got a big time recruit from the state of Oklahoma? Seems like the new coaches can get us into new states as well. As French has said multiple times, we really need to start recruiting new states for OL so I think this is a really good sign that only a week or two in and we're already seeing recruits from the not so typical VT states. I understand that Loeffler was already recruiting him so I'm not expecting Oklahoma to become a part of our pipeline, I just think it's noteworthy that this guy is from Oklahoma.
I thought we weren't having Junior Day until April? Did they decide to have one next month too?
You're probably right, I'm just guessing.
Pro Style Quarterback????
What is this? 2004?
Good point, but...
1. We have a new OC, who wants to run a pro style offense.
2. He's got some moves, as can be seen below.
3. No one can possibly be as bad as Sean Glennon.
lolz at #3
Seems genuinely excited
Look at Chung recruiting
Anyone else as stoked as I am to see a recruit who hasn't even signed his LOI recruiting his friends?
Didn't JC Coleman do the same last year? Awesome nonetheless
JC Coleman did a ton of it last year.
Did any of Coleman's recruiting work?
Well
Caleb, VanDyke, and Ekanem eventually signed. Not so much with Kirven, but that one was kind of a toss-up the whole way.
He was also close with Cyrus Jones, who picked Bama over us in the Under Armour All American game.
rivals calls him a pro style guy
But according to them he accounted for 755 rushing yards his junior season
Here's his junior highlight tape
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLIu5o3xPcs
I throughly
enjoyed watching him bulldoze not one, but two kids at 1:34.
Kid makes everyone on the field including the refs look like children. He's huge.
That was worth the watch, thanks for sharing!
Get his receiver too (#1)
Thanks for sharing. He looks pretty darn good; keeps his eyes down field. Also need to get his receiver (#1), who was making all kinda catches.
yeah .. just noticed that and started doing some digging
http://football.debartolosportsu.com/news/view/463
Before moving to Oklahoma, he played at Ponte Vedra ... same high school as the one and only Kyle Chung
Work it Chung!!
new article posted about the recruiting potential of the new hires
http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/colleges/virginia-tech-football-sta...
I like seeing stuff like this. with a younger staff I really think our quality of recruiting could increase drastically over the next few years...since it already has since Shane's been added to the staff
I agree.
No reason Tech shouldn't be annihilating UVA in recruiting. It's been, what, almost a full decade since they last beat Tech?
The only reason UVA has managed to stay within shouting distance of Tech's in-state recruiting numbers is because of the energy created by the new hire London and his staff. If Tech can match (or ideally surpass) that energy, Tech should be sweeping the state for talent.
UVA shouldn't be the bar. Out recruiting UVA is like beating your sister in arm wrestling. It's only embarrassing when you lose. VT needs to get to FSU, Notre Dame and Clemson levels of recruiting. Once VT has the talent to go two-deep, instead of plugging holes with walk-ons, then I think we can logistically expect post-season playoff berths.
You know what people weren't doing
the last time UVA beat VT in football? Tweeting. Because Twitter didn't even exist yet. Twitter has become so central to my enjoyment of college football, that little factoid just really highlights for me how long it's been since they beat us. Love it.
The Commonwealth Cup must have put down roots in Blacksburg by now...
Forget twitter
People weren't using Youtube!
Or even Facebook....That,
Or even Facebook....
That's pretty much the trifecta of what most people now do online. That really put things into perspective for me.
Good article
Thanks for sharing. I think that last note about the staff's average age dropping by almost 10 years is an important one.
If he wants a beach, fine
Virginia Beach is 5 hours and 10 minutes from Blacksburg. And Wilmington NC is 5 hours amd 45 minutes away. I google mapped. Somebody get that boy to the bwach when he takes his official visit.
Loeffler was his lead recruiter for Auburn. It looks like the kid is more interested in Loeffler than the school. That isn't a bad thing if Loeffler can also call plays and coach the QBs well.
Hokie nation is shocking me
Hokies making a good impression apparently... I'm getting excited.
#beachflow
#HokieNation
I love twitter-recruiting! I think my twitter-recruiting had a large role in Kendall Fuller's commitment lol.
Hence the lol
I was obviously joking
Yea, I'm sure Vincent, Corey, and Kyle had nothing to do with it. Definitely all you. To you sir, I say Bravo.
Haha
I was only joking man. But I did send him tons of pro-Hokie-anti-clemson tweets.
This is huge i think to land this kid. If Loeffler can aid in Logan Thomas' progress to the NFL and we can land this kid and be successful, I think it will open the flood gates for these types of QBs where VT is a place for them to go and gain experience that helps them in the next level.
agreed
a la DBU or to perhaps a lesser extent RBU, being known as a QB school wouldn't suck.
didnt ever think we would be known as a qb developing school, elite quarterback development and play can really put you on a fast track to being a program that everyone is afraid to play
We're well on our way....
Vick, Tyrod, Thomas.... we very well might be on our way to being known for our QBs, especially if some of these guys (Hodges, Parker, etc.) work out.
Cornwell plans to visit
This is from Clint Brewster of 247 Sports, "David Cornwell plans to visit Virginia Tech 'hopefully by the spring'".
http://virginiatech.247sports.com/Article/David-Cornwell-plans-to-visit-...
Wouldn't be surprised if he was at the spring game. I would be ecstatic if we had the same commitment success as last year .
#Beachflow
Ive got a truck if someone wants to help me with getting a few loads of sand
We're gonna need a whole lot of water too
nuh uh
I had enough water at the spring game last year
We have Beach Flow
well played!
Didn't even think of that. Nice.
Back in my slusher wing days
I loved slusher beach around April when the nice weather came back and brought the bikinis out.
the first warm weekend of the spring in blacksburg can be quite the shock to the senses to a young man.
That first day of spring was amazing, it's like they came out of hibernation or something!
First Day of Spring? Oh gosh...
All the dudes are like:

And all the girls are like:

And all the larger girls are like

And all the nerds are like

Ah the reminiscing
The first day of sun dresses was always the best.
Ah...Slusher Beach
I remember spring in the burg....and leaving early for classes so I could walk by Newman Beach...make my way up to Slusher....quite enjoyable!
When my Dad was at VT....
When my Dad was at VT (mid 70's) he said all the ugly girls lived in East Eggleston and West Eggleston. They referred to that "beach" as the Bay of Pigs.
Yep
It was still called the "Bay of Pigs" in the mid-80's. I know, I dated one from NJ, then graduated and returned to sanity. Confession is good for the soul...
That is awesome
I've never had dad's stories validated. Glad to hear it wasn't a memory fogged by the Budweiser. Now if only someone can tell me he really did get kicked out of living on campus for shooting bottle rockets under his RA's door.
Supposedly all the vending machines in Pritchard are on the ground floor now because of some guys that lived there same time that my dad lived in Lee.
Also, supposedly, it's possible for a soda machine to fall 4 floors onto concrete and still be partially functional.
An officer in the Blacksburg police department confirmed the vending machine story for me back in '96. He didn't say how many vending machines though (I assumed it was 1.)
It was only one. But once you've had one soda machine fall 4 floors, you don't exactly want a repeat performance.
Even better than throwing a soda machine off the roof, there was a guy in Vawter I believe a few years back who got ahold of some of the fluorescent light bulbs that they use in the building from a maintenance room. He found a way up on the roof and started throwing them onto the ground acting like he was Zeus as they exploded. That's some quality entertainment.
Also, during the construction on East AJ, some people from West AJ got up on the roof because the construction workers forgot to lock the door back so they decided to have Margarita Monday up there.
The roof at Vawter? That's kind of steep, as I recall (I'm a former resident of said dorm). Not sure it was there. Perhaps at Owens nearby? It has a flat roof. Sounds like both of these stories included alcohol in some form or fashion.
I believe it was Vawter as the story was told to me by an RA from there. Could be wrong as this is a secondhand story though.
I once threw a keg party in my dorm room in egglesston.
i know last year a few people had a kegger in slusher...no RA...no problem! haha also my RA told me of a story about a guy who managed to break the lock to the roof of pritchard or vawter (cant really remember which) and changed the lock with his own and would sneak up on the roof and drink beer at the end of the year i guess the staff finally tried to go on the roof and realized the lock was changed and when they eventually got up there hundreds of beer cans had accumulated.
3rd floor, spring of '99?
First two years on campus the school sponsored keg parties! Drinking age (for beer) was 18 at the time.
Upper quad had a dorm olympics. The winning dorm got a keg party. Of course, everyone was invited. It was held in the basement. Times have changed. Not sure how many years after I moved off campus that it continued. Laws changed the drinking age to 21 a few years later. Our big gripe against the new law was that you could get drafted, vote, own a gun, be tried as an adult, and have other adult responsibilities but couldn't legally have a beer?
I was one of the first guys to live in the wing. Streaked the beach during a fire alarm. The girls loved it.
Loeffler is still working.
Cornwell has an offer from Alabama among a slew of other SEC schools. Anyone think he even has a chance to pull it off?
I think it's better than One in a Million
Also as others have pointed out, if Jacob Park commits to us before Cornwell announces, I think that would probably take us out of the running. And while I would love for us to land either of them, I wouldn't have any problem with Bucky Hodges taking the snaps for 3 or 4 years. If we sign one of them I would guess that 2014 would probably be a 3 way competition between Leal(R-Sr), Hodges(R-Fr), and Cornwell/Park(Fr), with a slight chance of Carlis Parker(R-Fr/So) making his way into the conversation.
Just to add on a little more, I would be perfectly happy with Leal starting as Senior, He was a middle of the Road 3* on the 247 Composte ranking and will have had 4 years to adjust to the college game. While he'll only be slightly ahead of Bucky on the new playbook, he knows how to go through his progression and find the open receiver. While he wasn't highly ranked coming out of High School, I think Leal can be a Brian Randall (4* recruit) type of QB who has a high completion percentage and takes care of the football.
Yeah, Leal should be the runaway favorite to start. It should be his job to lose.
I would totally follow Bryan Randall into battle
I think Alabama is the favorite, Tennessee has made a push, but Tech is definitely still in the mix. Like a lot of folks said below, we sit well with Park, and I don't anticipate any school signing both of them.
Umm he didn't even spell Lefty's name right...that can't be a good sign...
Yes...I do ... But I think park pulls the trigger and cornwell moves on..I'd love to have either though
Well in any case we get a good quality QB! I'm glad he's persueing them both. Thought I don't know why Park hasn't committed yet
I think that Park is waiting for Cornwell. Cornwell is ranked higher so he holds the cards.
I read that Park will visit us in June and decide by the end of June.
I think so as well. If anyone ever wants a good college football recruiting book check out the Meat Market book that came out years ago that followed the Ole Miss head coach for a recruiting cycle. They talk a lot about quarterbacks especially waiting on each other and once the first couple fall, everyone else falls into place.
I remember the scene where Orgeron introduced himself to all of his players together by ripping off his shirt and challenging any player brave enough to fight him.
Anyone ever read Death to the BCS by the yahoo writers? It makes you sick that college football has been hijacked as a business.
So all indications point to Cornwell and Park announcing their commitment in June. So who goes where? I think if Park announces first, he would commit to us and then Cornwell would go to Bama. But if Cornwell announces first, I don't know who he might pick. I know Bama is the favorite, but we've stuck in there and it seems that Loeffler and the staff are really pushing to get him. Obviously we're only getting one of these guys and I wouldn't mind having either of them. It just would be nice to see a player choose us over Bama unlike Korren Kirven did...
