If Tyrod were going pro now

The topic about Tyrod seeing the field Sunday got me thinking... With the sudden rise in popularity of the read-option and quarterbacks that can run it, do you think Tyrod would have been a hotter draft-day commodity if he had been coming out of VT this year instead of when he did? He was the quickest qb in the draft that year, and had demonstrated success in college.

I'm not saying he'd be a first round pick or anything, but he might've garnered more interest than he did. Thoughts?

I was thinking the Skins would have a mild interest. They could use Cousins as trade bait for more draft picks and try to grab someone similar to Tyrod's abilities in a later round for when RG3 goes down twice a year.

Regardless there will definatly be an interest in the NFL for these types of players in the future, and i think that would have impacted his draft status for the better

I think there would have been more interest because the past two years have really showed what a mobile qb can do. It's a copycat league. Like you said, I don't think he would have went too much higher, but I definitely think he would have went higher.

And this reminded me of something I've been meaning to write/post up here.

Plan on

Tyrod being trade bait himself this off-season. As you mentioned with the popularity of the read-option, I wouldn't be surprised if someone didn't grab him. Also, with Flacco demanding so much money (rumored), he might just find himself a starting opportunity next year. Maybe brother John can ask brother Jim about how to run the RO?

Cowboys. It'd be awesome to see Tyrod go to Dallas and reconnect with Coale and make great things happen.

...one can dream..

Is Coale still with the Cowboys? He broke his foot in the pre-season and din't make the team, I think. Also, Tyrod in a cowboys jersey would upset me deeply.

It was a catch

He's on the practice squad...things actually got worse from there. He tore his ACL in his left knee back in november, so he's been out since then.

yeah, hard to root for anyone in dallas even if they were hokie greats. If the RO would have come to the NFL sooner I think the skins would have picked him up when he came out. I honestly thought they were going to draft him that year anyway.

I hate seeing any Hokie playing for an NFC East squad other than my Giants.

He would have been drafted 2 rounds earlier in my opinion. He was just as good if not better than Russell Wilson, so I see no reason to think that he would have been drafted much later than Wilson. Any quarterback drafted in that area will at least be given an opportunity to win a starting job (Jets anyone?).

Rip his freaking head off!

No offense to Tyrod, but he is not nearly as good of a quarterback as Russell Wilson. Tyrod is significantly more athletic, and has a much stronger arm, but as a total package quarterback, he's not even close. Russell has a large edge in accuracy, decision making, and football IQ.

Put Wilson on VT and Tyrod on NC State

We'll never know for sure, but I have a feeling Wilson wins ACC POY. And Wilson won the B1G Top QB award the next year.

Tim Tebow has a playoff win too. Do you consider him just as good as Russel Wilson?

Won a Super Bowl!

No, because I actually watched the game and Russell Wilson almost put together one of the best comebacks I've ever seen versus the Falcons and beat a decent Redskins team (sans RG3).

But Tyrod was the right QB for the right moment at VT

With such a weak QB class this year, and the desperate need for QBs in the NFL, this is going to be an interesting off season for solid back-up QB's (Smith, Cousins, Tebow, Taylor... etc.)

"Go Hokies!" - Thomas Jefferson

Not that I think Tebow is a solid QB, but I'm sure we'll hear about where he goes.

"Go Hokies!" - Thomas Jefferson

I think the Tebow hype machine that made him a big deal is what's going to kill his career. Nobody wants to deal with that. I wouldn't be surprised if the Jets took Smith.

Rip his freaking head off!

im shocked tyrod didn't go higher in his draft. i remember when he was selected the pannel saying they all thought he was a 4th round pick. i think hes been under the radar so long i want to see him get a shot

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

Just imagine what MV7 would be like...

If they hadn't spent his last year at VT and his entire NFL career trying to make him a pocket passer??? His best attribute is his speed...maybe try to exploit i (before his old ass knees give out).

I would love for Tyrod to get traded to Arizona to reconnect with Ryan Williams. Also, former VT QB Bruce Arians is the new head coach which could help out. Only problem is the amount of money Arizona has tied up in Kevin Kolb.

It's a Miracle in Blacksburg...TYROD DID IT MIKEY!!! TYROD DID IT!!!

I'd love for him to get any chance too. The problem is, if his chance is with a crappy team (Arizona) with a terrible o-line, his odds of success will be slim. I mean, even someone as escapable as Tyrod would get killed back there...

I think Kansas City would be a better landing spot (just IMO). They were 32nd in the league in passing yards last year, but had a decent team aside from that. I definitely think he could beat out Matt Cassel in a fair competition (but what do I know?)
