ACC Schedule News (Maroon & Orange Friday)

While the schedule is set to be announced at 3, it looks like some news has already leaked

I'll tell ya what, if there is no Thursday Night game this year at Lane, there is a 100% chance of Hulk Angry

I'm assuming this won't be a night game though. Probably around 3:30?

Rip his freaking head off!

3:30 later than my expectation.

Well, Fridays are for high school football, so it only makes sense to schedule the UVa game for that day.

There are not many kids playing high school football on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Especially not between noon and 3:30 when this game is to be played.

This is not a big deal. There are several games that day. Always.

Your joke went right over my head. Dang.

Well played by the new refugee! +1 For future reference, on TKP we always use the formal abbreviation for schools. It's LOLUVA.

You're fitting in real nicely to the community here at TKP

I agree. I like this guy

Hey, he was my friend first!

3:30 and you can be sure to catch this one not on TV as UVA's recore will be in the 1-2 win range approaching and ending the game lol

Right...because plenty of people will attend on a day that's traditionally full of madness and shopping and traffic.

Sometimes I wonder what these schedule makers are thinking?

ACC has a contractual obligation to I believe 2 or 3 Friday night games a year. Black Friday makes sense for exclusivity and the ability to build it up (regardless of who is playing). The first Friday of the year is another solid choice as well. After that, there really isn't a better option.

TV $$

Shoot, I fly home to CA for Thanksgiving every year. Are these punks really about to make me miss my first Tech-UVA game since I got here?

Family is overrated. Blacksburg is your home now.

I'm here for the memes, I just stay for the football.

I offer you one hat to attend the game. I'm talking TF2 hat.

On one hand, I'd actually be able to see the game since Saturday is the day I drive back from vacation.

On the other hand... NO.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

if you think VT fans wont attend the UVA game you're crazy... were not talking as if the game was in whoville

fans - maybe true. But what about the students? Think VT students will drive back the evening of Thanksgiving or the crack ass of dawn on Friday in order to make a Friday game - knowing they still have a solid 2-3 days of break left?

5-10 yeas ago, it wouldnt have been a question. But now, students seem more "fairweather" than in prior years.

I know I'll make it down for sure, can't speak for the rest of the student body

Come back to the 'Burg for a game and a weekend of drinking before classes start or spend days 6 thru 8 in a row with family?

I think there will be plenty of students in attendance.

I believe you can expect this game to be at night. Would make no sense for a Friday day game. So yes, I do think VT students would drive back Friday morning to make it to a Friday game.

Yea, I would hope it would be a Friday night game. Wasn't there some decent games on the day after Thanksgiving this past season?

Iowa @ Nebraska was a Black Friday 2013 nooner.

Miami @ Pitt was at 3:30.

I think the Iron Bowl was at 6.

Don't know what I was thinking. Arkansas-LSU was the only SEC game. I knew there was a high-profile rivalry game that night, but it was Oregon State @ Oregon.

That's what I get for typing what I think, not what I know. Turkey legs for all who caught the error.

Iron Bowl was definitely Saturday.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

It was Saturday. I distinctly remember because I was flying back to Alabama on a plane full of Alabama/Auburn fans when the flight attendants announced the final score. I thought there was going to be a fight on the plane.

Yep and I was walking back from Scott- err, I mean, Lane Stadium North when the final broke.

Iron Bowl was Friday for several years a few years ago. IIRC it was a 3:30 CBS game during those years.

Lot of students come back on Friday anyhow. Some of the best times I had at Tech were right after breaks, before classes started.

Plus you miss all of the Thanksgiving traffic on 81 Sunday.

Agree- I always went back on either Friday or Saturday because of the traffic or home game. Even the UVA games on Saturdays after Thanksgiving in Blacksburg during the middle of our 10-win seasons failed to completely fill the student sections however.

I'll be there, #noexcuses

They'll really get after ya

If this is true expect a half (or worse) empty student section. This is a horrible idea.

Me and practically everyone I knew always came back to Tech on Black Friday anyway. The only issue that arises with this is you don't get a full day of tailgating. But since the UVa game will probably be a noon or 3:30 kickoff and as long as this is a night game you basically wash if you leave at a respectable time that morning.

However, this is a bad idea for traffic. As now instead of students coming back Friday and alumni going up Friday night and the bulk Saturday morning I-81 is going to be a shit show all day Friday.

From my perspective seeing people come back on friday is pretty rare. Maybe I'm in the wrong circles, but it seems to me a majority of students won't cut their Thanksgiving break short (some students do actually like going home, strangely)

November 28th, my birthday. I think I'm cool with this. I'll be drunk anyhow, and UVA tears go great with bourbon.

This would be the first year since 08 if they played on the Saturday they would play on my birthday. Of course they change it to that Friday haha.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Rumors are Thursday night games will be at Pitt and home vs Miami. There would be a bye before the Pitt game.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Damn, I want to go to Pitt but I don't think I could for Thursday

Word of advice, don't go. Pitt fans are some of the worst. To put it simply, WVU fans think they are horrible. That should say something. The stadium isn't bad, but having to deal with their fans ruins the experience. Just my 2 cents.

As my WVU bro in-law says "Eat shit Pitt". Even has a shirt with this on it in those god awful
WV colors. They must be BAD.

I went to the Miami @ Pitt game last fall, from a relatively impartial point of view (my fiancee is a Cane) I didn't see any issues at all. But obviously every fan base has their bad eggs.

To put it simply, WVU fans think they are horrible.

Grain of salt. WVU fans think we're horrible too. Miscast aspersions, I think.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Eh, my interactions with all but 2 people in and around Heinz Field proved WVU right. They aren't battery-throwing couch burners like 'neers, but they would rather harass you than cheer for their own team.

The way WVU fans treat everyone, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a little payback when WVU comes to Pitt, especially with the added intensity of a rivalry game. I'd take an 'eer's opinion on Pitt fans with a large grain of salt.

I'm from Pittsburgh and have friends there so that's the main reason I wanted to go but yeah a lot of Pitt fans suck

Fair enough. I made it my road trip game in 2012. Needless to say, it was a bad decision for many reasons.

Crap. I was planning on attending the Pitt game. Thursday Night es no bueno.

See comment above.

Wake's SB Nation blog has their schedule and it says VT comes in on Nov. 22nd and they have a Thursday nighter of their own vs. Clemson on Nov. 6th:

This means if VT were to play back-to-back Thursday night games home & away it would be in October... otherwise they'd be split up with Nov. 13th looking like a reasonable spot for one of them.

Call me crazy but I LOVE it (or at least initially I do). Spend Thanksgiving with my family in NJ leave late that night for Arlington, catch some sleep, then leave in the morning for Blacksburg and tailgating. I mean it's a guaranteed night game against UVA, I think it will be awesome. As for student attendance I think most upperclassmen and people within 4 hours of Blacksburg will drive back Friday morning for it.

Virginia Tech '12
Go Hokies and Philly Sports

Not sure that its a guaranteed night game. Times won't be set up until two weeks before. unless ESPN exercises their 6 day option. If VT is sitting at anything below ten wins, and UVa is being UVa then it'll more likely be an afternoon game.

Leonard. Duh.

I disagree. Someone else can do the research, but has there ever been an FBS regular season game played during the week that wasn't played at night and wasn't on a holiday like Labor Day? It's all about money and money comes from people watching the game either on TV or in person. There will be many people working that day so there is too much money to lose by playing it early. This isn't bowl season where they can get away with it as they cram as many games as they can in a short period without having any overlap. I fully expect it to be a bitter cold night game. Expect UVA to break out the ascots and argyle sweaters for this one folks.

If you look up about half the page, I posted that Iowa @ Nebraska was a nooner (actually 11AM local time, but that's somewhat normal in B1G country), the Arkansas @ LSU game was at 2:30, and the Miami @ Pitt game was at 3:30, all on Black Friday 2013.

Fair enough. Missed that part. I still think that since it's part of our contract with ESPN, it will end up as a night game. At least that's what I think makes the most sense.

I think the Miami Pitt game is evidence that we're more likely to see a 330 game.

it depends on both teams records but i think 3:30 is the best we can hope for, wouldn't be surprised at all if its a nooner.

And...there won't be many people working Friday after Thanksgiving...except mall retailers.

Leonard. Duh.

Speak for yourself. It's not a holiday so not every job gives you the day off and not everyone can take the day off either.

I'm actually speaking for the millions of people that won't be working that day. You could say what you just said about any day, including holidays. There are cops, firefighters, nurses, truckers, toll booth operators, hotel staff, gas station attendants, and power line workers that will be working on Christmas Day, but Santa ain't waiting for those guys to get off work.

Leonard. Duh.

Let's run with it then. We are getting what we want, and so far it's 3 nationally televised games.

I say dust off the black unis, update em, and we go for #11 in style.

YES, 1 million times yes. That would be so badass.

“These people are losing their minds. This is beautiful.”

Awesome idea. The only way to make it happen is to mount a campaign. Hit up VT Athletics on the phone, by email, heck even Twitter might work. May I suggest #BlackUnis4BlackFriday?

Black Friday you say?

That would be cool.

Fuck yes. This.

my all time faves

I live in the Pittsburgh area and you won't have to worry about Pitt fans. They don't go to the games. When I first moved to the area, Pitt had Tony Dorsett playing Notre Dame when the Irish were in the top ten; and they could not sell out the stadium.

I have friends who buy season tickets and go to maybe 2 games.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

Yeah, I managed to get tickets three rows behind the Tech bench for the 2012 game the day before the game. There was a decent showing of Hokies and I was impressed with Heinz field. Just need a better showing on the field.

uva will just be happy to be on TV.

What a way for Mike London to celebrate his last game.

Ouch, Tulane drops GT for this fall 2 days after the schedule is finalized.

Hotel booked. Now I just need tickets
