A Hokie with Head Coaching Experience....

In researching more information on Russell Turner I was surprised to find out that there is a Hokie out there with some significant head coaching experience, while not rousingly successful as he is 273-261 overall as a head coach at McNeese State, Northeastern, and Duquesne, still a Hokie. He is currently working in Purgatory, ala Morgantown, WV under Bob Huggins at WVU, although his hometown is about twelve miles from WVU so its a comfortable place for him. He has eighteen years HC time, and also was an assistant an additional 11 years at Georgia Tech, VMI, and Tulane.

Without further ado, I give you Ron Everhart.

Played at Tech from 1981-85 and was captain of the team from 84-85, when the Hokies reached the NCAA tournament. I am sure some of those folks on here that are from that time knew about him already but I figured why not share with those of us that didn't.

I am by no means suggesting that we hire him but its nice to know that a Hokie has had some success as a head coach. There is a inspiring story about how he was bringing nine new players in for his first class at Duquesne, when he had five players shot in an incident that happened a month before practices started for the year. The team still managed to win 10 games his first year and were honored with the Most Courageous Award by college basketball. That same group would win 17 games their second year and 21 their third. Good story about a Hokie helping his team through tragedy and on to better things.
