Friday Funday: post your favorite Hokie play-by-play calls

So it's officially the first Friday of spring (except for any of you down under, sucks to be you), and my billion dollar bracket fizzled out on game 1 (and I really have a hard time with caring about basketball if there's nothing in it for me), so I thought it'd be fun to have a topic where we can reminisce about the superior sport (football).

So here's the thing: post your favorite Hokie play-by-play moments. It could be TV or radio announcers, and you can include other sports like basketball if you'd like.

Here's three to get us started (of course I have to include the famous Nebraska game):

"Has a man open! Caught! (Unbelievable!) Danny Coale! All the way!"

But then two maybe less known plays with great calls:
"OHHH Terrel Skinner just got FLATTENED"

And this other great run call:
"Look at the power of the young man!"

Have at it.

Is it weird that even though I know the outcome of this game, I still get nervous that Shayne Graham will miss the field goal?

“These people are losing their minds. This is beautiful.”

I was in the endzone that Graham kicked that beauty into with a group of my fraternity brothers on one side and WVU fans I went to high school with on the other. The WVU silence after that kick was glorious. The fact we made it out of that stadium alive....Priceless. Mountaineer Field was the first public building that I had ever seen that had signs posted: FIREARMS not permitted in this establishment All the fans wanted to be like the Mountaineer mascot and bring their black powder guns to the games.

I was so drunk after that game, downtown Morgantown, and the bars were EMPTY. All the Mountaineer fans went home to cry it off.

Burning the couches of shame instead of the couches of victory.

There were at least two dumpster fires going between the stadium and downtown after that game.

One of the greatest Hokie football moments ever.
It looks like they are playing in a post apocalyptic war zone on the moon.
Amazing that this video quality was pretty typical at that time on the internet.

"Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!"
'Nuff said.

Tweedy can run like a dadgum antelope or whatever. I like to use scalded dog. Do antelopes lumber? Cheetah, OK. He runs like a cheetah. He's fast. - Bud Foster

We're done here. Close the internet. Everything that it needed to do has been done.

You tube is blocked at my job, thus no clip... But that call is EPIC and needs no video evidence.

"DOH... thats... thats a video game move... L1?... thats L1"

"Touchdown Tech! I've never enjoyed saying that more!"

This will be the greatest VT game call of all time... hands down.

"And it is caught, it is caught for a touchdown"

lol only because listening to the color guy trying to downplay how big a hit this truly was still cracks me up. Guy was clueless.

I love how he really didn't do much. He ran to a position and planted himself, and the WR goes flying.

"didn't jar the receiver too much..."

As the receivers legs go flying up into the air in slow motion, his entire forward progress stopped in an instant and he's sent sprawling on his back.

I can't remember which game it is from but Mike Burnop saying Ryan Williams was "slicker than a peeled onion in a bowl full of snot"...classic!

nebraska. Look at #15.

There's a game I'm pretty sure it was the play against GT - 2005 where we blocked a field goal and DJ Parker ran it back for a touchdown and the announcer yells "DENNIS DAVIS" all excitedly. I saw the replay on sportscenter (game was in Blacksburg, so of course I was at the game) and looked at my buddy and said "Who the hell is Dennis Davis?" Found out later he was a guy on GT's team and the commentator must've been looking at their roster instead of ours. It was just funny how excited/confident the announcer was and how wrong he was about the name. Unfortunately I couldn't find the clip.

“These people are losing their minds. This is beautiful.”

How about the Miami game - "These people are losing their minds!"

Can't go to youtube at work, so someone will have to help me out...

It was a catch

All of the above.

1) Tyrod to Open vs Big Red in Blacksburg
2) Darren Evans trucks Maryland defender

Not a huge Jesse Palmer fan, but I do love this quote:

"Now, pick up your ACL, it's on the ground..."

Real subtle with it too.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

Not for the call per se, but just maybe the best game atmosphere at Lane stadium EVER...

I much prefer the Bill Roth & Mike Burnop call of that play
