There was an interesting article in the Virginian Pilot today about how many of the football players from here in the 757 are heading to colleges outside of the state. There were some interesting quotes that gave some insight into the mindset of players:
"There's nothing wrong with Virginia Tech but I didn't want to stay home," said Yulee, ranked the No. 3 prospect in the state by ESPN and No. 5 by Rivals. "I wanted to go somewhere far away ... I just wanted to get away."
I wonder if the way recruiting is now nationwide, we're going to see a decreasing amount of players staying in-state, merely because kids want the allure and adventure of going somewhere out-of-state for school. I did a quick scan of our last five recruiting classes (not a scientific sampling) and there seems to be a bit of a trend towards kids from other states committing to the good guys.
