OT: The Cardale Jones You Don't Know

Adam Kramer at Bleacher Report wrote an article about 12 Gauge yesterday and I think it's a really great read. If you're not familiar with him, Kramer is a good writer and a fun follow on Twitter (@kegsneggs).

The Cardale Jones You Don't Know

I admit that I had my own opinion of Cardale the person, not the football player, and a lot of it was based on a dumb tweet he sent in 2012. Turns out, there's a lot more to him then some Hokies may know. Some interesting tidbits from the article that were news to me:

  • Jones prepped at Fork Union in 2011. I looked back at Fork Union's 2011 roster and surprisingly, there aren't any Hokies that played with Jones in 2011 (Jon McGlaughlin would arrive in 2012). However, Penn State stud QB and potential 2016 1st overall pick (looking at you, Washington/Jacksonville/Cleveland), Christian Hackenberg, prepped with Cardale at FUMA
  • Cardale is a father; his daughter was born a month after the bucks beat Oregon in the 'ship
  • He's really involved in the community and has a special bond with a young kid at a Nationwide Children's Hospital that's had multiple open heart surgeries.

I hope the Hokies whoop that ass on Monday night but Cardale Jones seems like a pretty good dude to me.

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"
