OT: 2015-16 VT Ice Hockey

There hasn't been a thread on this in a while, so I thought I'd share. VT Ice Hockey wrapped up it's home season at the Berglund Center yesterday with a 4-3 OT win over the Millersville Marauders. Perhaps in our need for linebackers we should recruit from club sports, because they absolutely laid out a couple of times.

My hat's off to them for getting down 2-0, then 3-2 late and yet fighting back to tie while down two players in the penalty box. And the winning shot was a beauty from the blue line.

I wasn't a hockey fan and went out of curiosity, but man - I will be in the seats often next year. All they have remaining this year are away games... At $2 for Faculty/Staff/Students and $5 for public general admission, it's a fun bargain and as a club sport they need any gate proceeds they can get.

They use Enter Sandman as an entrance as well, and they did Hokie Nation proud yesterday. Tough, gritty, and played as a team. They had a good crowd, including some of Cassell Guard who sat right behind the opponent bench and performed admirably in their effort to rouse both the crowd and get into the opponent's head.

My only criticism is that their web site uses "Virginia Tech University" over and over; it's probably managed by an outsider. Maybe we should get Pete Morris on that...

Not to mention - the Hokie Bird REALLY needs to be the Zamboni operator for those games...

And no surprise there, it's Wally Lancaster with an airball that looked gorgeous on its way to nowhere...
