Tennessee will kick off the 2016 football season against Appalachian State on Sept. 1st, a Thursday.
The game was originally scheduled for Sept. 3rd but was moved up two days to accommodate television. It will now kick off at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on the SEC Network.
It also gives Tennessee two extra days to prepare for Virginia Tech at the Battle at Bristol to be held on September 10th. Conversely, it seems as if the change would have to alter their August camp schedule a little. Coach Butch Jones says he was supportive of the change because this "...will also assist us with logistical considerations connected with the Battle at Bristol the following weekend which involves several of our staff who are assisting with that event."
