OT: ACC bringing championship events back to NC

Because of course they are. At least it'll be a good Hokie crowd for the ACC Championship game this season.

Honestly I'm a little surprised and pretty disappointed by this. Was hoping that they (and other organizations) would continue to stick it to the state.

I thought HB2 was repealed/is in the process of being repealed?

"repealed"

The HB2 provisions stay on the books for the next 3 years. Just long enough for the next governor to be elected.

Technically, the state law is reverted to where it was before HB2 was passed, so it is technically a "repeal".

The difference is that the bill that repealed HB2 also prevents local governments from creating protections for the LGBT community and keeps any made before HB2 off of the books, which is critical because the whole reason HB2 was even introduced and rushed through the General Assembly was because the City of Charlotte passed some protections.

Actually, NC localities will be open to pass whatever laws they want on 1/1/2020.

its not a coincidence that is the first day after Cooper's current term as governor.

Oh no, sir.

There is no such thing as a coincidence with political matters.

Leonard. Duh.

It's only a "repeal" in name. The bill that repeals it also includes language preventing any local governments in the state from legislating any protections for the LGBT community.

Meta:
VTGM, I tried to keep everything either factual in nature or directly related to the ACC, but if this is over the "no politics" line, feel free to delete both of my posts. (Edit: now 3)

You're good. And with topics like this, I'm going to give anyone who pushes the line a heads up before I hit them with anything. Obviously the whole NC/HB2 saga is relevant to ACC activities so it is in that sense appropriate here. Factual discussion of the law is fine. But it's a fine line to walk on sensitive issues. Thanks for keeping it topical and appropriate.

FACT!
All politicians from either side are so full of shit, they squeak when they walk.

so full of shit, they squeak when they walk.

Is this a real expression that people say? Does shit squeak? Is this a thing?

Does a Grizzly Bear always shit facing east during the Summer?

I don't know if that's an expression, but I'm pretty sure we all know what he means.

Grandpa Leonard used to say that all the time. It was a thing to him. He also used, "He doesn't know shit from Shinola." That would have worked as well, I guess.

Shit and 4 is 10.

Be very careful everyone.... (politics)

Is it football season yet?

Politics aside, I'm glad the events are back. The people this boycott was hurting the most (Charlotte and Raleigh residents) were the ones who supported the stance of the ones boycotting. That part of the thing just never made sense to me, because the ones they were trying to inconvenience weren't impacted at all.

Really disappointed the ACC didn't even look at moving some Olympic sport tournaments and championships out of the state or to rotation of some kind.

Fencing is held on a rotation between the four schools with varsity teams, for what it's worth.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Ok, however golf, soccer, and a host of other sports just got moved right back to NC. It was great having women's golf tournament down here in SC where I could take my kids out for 2 hours to see them play. Instead all these tournaments head right back to the backyard of the same schools/teams and fans with no new exposure. All so that the NC based conference has an easier time of it.

ACC has no backbone. Regardless on whether or not you agree with their original stance, they didn't stick with it one way or the other.

didn't care then. don't care now.

North Carolina is such a convenient central location compared to everything else, the ACC was looking for an excuse, ANY excuse to host events back in the state. The fact that freaking Orlando was the next pick for the football championship last year shows how bad the options really are after Charlotte.

Haha you know it's true though. What good neutral site locations are there in the mid-atlantic? Next best option is probably Fed Ex field.

Honestly, I'd like to see the football championship game held in Charlottesville every year. It's situated on one major interstate (I-64) and close to another two (I-81, I-95). It has an airport and amtrak station. Ample hotels because it's not just a college town. And, for all intents and purposes, it is a neutral site (though you could argue that it's a home game for Tech, but only slightly moreso than Charlotte is for not only Tech, but all the other NC schools as well).

Take out football how many other sports does the ACC default to for tournaments/championship game?

That's good, NC > Florida

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

KCCO

Play the ACCG at the home field of the highest ranked participant.

It's Time to go to Work

So, wait 'till the week before the game to decide, and put it in South Carolina or Florida every year?

No sorry. Didn't work for PAC either.

Sounds like a logistical nightmare for the host stadium.

Yes, I know the D-1A argument, but their facilities are a fraction of an ACC stadium (minus Wake)
