OT: Tyrod lost his best receiver, Bills going into full tank mode

Taylor took a $10 million pay cut in March to stay with the Bills, saying at the time he was putting his trust in management to fill in pieces around him after Taylor dealt with a lackluster group of receivers over his first two seasons as the starter. Instead, management has pulled out the rug on Taylor.

Sorry Tyrod, the Bills just screwed you.

Just saw this too. What a douche move by the Bills, they had a decent shot to make the playoffs and just tossed it down the drain. Tyrod needs to find a team with that is less run heavy and has some resemblence of decent wideouts.

They replaced Watkins with Jordan Matthews, whom they acquired for Ronald Darby

phew, they are going to struggle with the passing game on both sides of the ball after that

And yeah, the understood message here is that the Bills are tanking to force the hand of moving on from Tyrod and starting over from scratch. Which.... wow, dickbag move from management

Yeah.....that's a shitty move, for sure. Can't help but feel sorry for Tyrod!!

I'd welcome Tyrod back to Baltimore in a heartbeat!

the O-line is no good either

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

Tyrod deserves to be treated better. They'll probably release him before they have to pay him half his contracted amount for this year.

....and then he goes back and dominates for the Ravens with Flaccid out for a while?

If only he had went to the Broncos and sat behind Peyton for a season. He'd be in a great spot right now. At least there were rumors the Broncos were interested in him, but he turned it down for a quicker shot at being a starter in Buffalo.

That is correct. Gary Kubiak tried to bring Tyrod Taylor with him to Denver. Tyrod opted to go to Buffalo instead since he had a better path to the starting job.

that being said, is there any doubt he's destined to be the starter in Washington next year? With the team doing everything they can to ensure Cousins bolts town with both middle fingers in the air after the season, it seems pretty logical, especially with the hometown feel.

God, I hope not, I can't stand the thought of rooting for the Redskins

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Me either and I've been a Redskins fan for life

Denver offered more $$$ too

Hindsight is 20/20 and all but with the way he's been treated in Buffalo it is a damn shame he didn't go to Denver. He's performed better than almost anyone expected him too, he sacrifices stats for the team, then sacrificed salary for the team. And yet they essentially try to push him out the door a month before this season starts. If the Bills organization had any class they wouldn't have pitched him that they believed in this roster and let him go somewhere he was wanted instead of potentially sacrificing him career while tanking. It's completely disgusting

I guess it's the Eagles then since they kinda-sorta picked Evans?

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

As a Giants fan, please no. I physically can't root for them. It was hard enough with Vick on the team.

To be honest, as good as Sammy is/was he usually only lasted a few games anyway before he got injured. Anquan Boldin will most likely pick up the slack there.

I was thinking the same thing. Sammy has averaged just over 50 catches a season. Then I read this about Matthews:

'Matthews has been a highly productive player since being selected 42nd overall in 2014. He ranks first in receptions (225) and third in receiving yards (2,673) among Eagles in their first three years and is one of only five players in NFL history with 65-plus receptions and 800-plus receiving yards in each of their first three seasons, joining a club that includes Randy Moss, Odell Beckham Jr., Mike Evans and A.J. Green.'

Maybe with Matthews and Boldin, Tyrod wins!

As a bills fan, I've got mixed emotions. Watkins can be a great receiver, but he doesn't stay healthy and he wasn't going to stay in Buffalo next year. Boldin and Matthews are pretty good possession receivers. Hopefully they bring in somebody that can stretch the field.

I'm actually more upset about losing Darby. I don't even know who our corners are anymore.

I really did think we would make playoffs this year if Watkins/McCoy/tyrod stayed healthy because I'm pretty confident McDermott will improve the defense dramatically. Now I'm not so sure.

Watch out for Zay Jones...I think the kid is going to be good. They do need someone to take the top off though..They may be able to find someone after the first few cuts...

Since McDermott and Beane are both from the Panthers, I'm going to trust that they know what they are doing..

In Tyrod we trust

Bah. Just making a joke

PSA: "Rod" is short for Tyrod

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

Ah, ok. That's my bad bro.

Personally I felt Tyrod should have taken his chances on the FA last year. The only reason he even got a chance to start for the Bills is because Rex Ryan believed in him. He's got no love from the upper office, and it seems like they're just using him as a placeholder until they find a QB they like. Which is just dumb for both parties: The Bills can't seem to figure out that finding a different quarterback isn't going to fix how bad they are at nearly every other position, and Tyrod is going to waste his best years playing for a crap team. /rant

I don't see the big deal. How much of an impact was Watkins last and how much of an impact would he have been this year?

In baseball terms, his WAR had to be pretty pedestrian.

Isn't WAR made for just this situation, meaning it measures how many more games they would have won if he wasn't injured?

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

Nope.

How so? Last I checked WAR was perfect for saying "if this player was injured, here's what we'd lose" which is the same as "here's what we lost when that player was injured."

I could see if we had no stats for Watkins, but we do have some limited stats since he did play in some games these past years.

JMatt got the ball A LOT last year, and he's an exemplary teammate and hard worker. But he will still drop the ball on a wide open 3rd down 7 or 8 times a year. I'd say it's a downgrade from Watkins, which as someone who hopes TT does well in the league makes me sad. But as an Eagles fan I'm thrilled at getting some corner help, the other guys we have there would have trouble in the AAC

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Re Jordan Matthews: hands of absolute stone. Seemingly tries to catch the ball with his hands balled up as fists. I have tons of Iggles fan friends - a couple of them texted me condolences re Tyrod having him as a teammate. He's a good athlete, plays with urgency, little chip on his shoulder - but he is an awful wide receiver. Basically an expensive special teamer unless he learns how to catch the ball...

HOWEVER. The Watkins loss means almost nothing in terms of on-field production. To paraphrase Last Chance U, "you can't help the club in the tub". I think Anquan Boldin at 75% of his former self will more than fill the gap left by Sammy Watkins. Not to mention Zay Jones who (as we VT fans can attest) has a Dez Bryant-like catch radius and can fuckin' fly. With the right coach/system, I think he can be a Pro Bowler.

The Bills are still going to be awful - their offensive line is atrocious and their secondary is almost that bad - but I don't think the WR corps will be the issue.

You're the only ones that I can talk to about this, you guys.

McDermott might be able to work with a lack of talent in the secondary if he's getting push up front. Lot of guys who looked average or worse with other teams seem to have excelled in Carolina's secondary the past few years.

How much of that is McDermott as opposed to Rivera who clearly knows defense, I don't know.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

Hate this set of trades for Tyrod, but love it for the Eagles.

A slot WR that the Eagles clearly weren't bringing back next year anyway, and get a young CB that can actually play and helps what was 100% the weakest part of the Eagles team.

Would have preferred not giving the draft pick as well, but they have a lot of 1 year FAs that I think the GM will allow to walk to get compensatory picks next year. Great move

Agreed. I definitely #TrustTheProcess when it comes to Howie

I live in Buffalo and listen to a lot of sports radio, the host around here are seem anti-Tyrod. They think that franchise QBs are a slam dunk in the first 10 picks of the draft. I felt the Bills had a good shot at the playoffs this year with the Jets tanking and Miami losing Tannehill and that being 4 of there loses last year. If Watkins stays healthy and Darby plays like he did in 15 it's a horrible trade. If Watkins gets hurt and Darby plays like last year it's a good trade. Maybe Zay Jones and Tre white are better than expected. They should bring in Brandon Flowers.

I follow the Bills casually just because of LT and Tyrod. I think Brandon Beane and McDermott know what they are doing(Panthers are my second fav team) and I'm not surprised that they are putting Defense or offense(McDermott is a defensive guy)..the fact that they did bring in Boldin to be the leader of the receiving corps lets me know that they aren't trying to tank, but I they seem to be following the Browns lead and gathering picks to upgrade them. Tyrod just happens to be the QB. Peterman is not ready, so I would say Tyrod's job is safe this season..We KNOW they aint bringing Kapernick to a city like Buffalo..but thats another topic..

This title is misleading since his best receiver, Logan Thomas, is still on the team

Coincidentally he is also their best tank.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Bills will still have more wins this season than fans at the UVA spring gathering that's supposedly close to the football field.

I'll still take Tyrod in my fantasy draft, because he's the bomb.

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

And people are still paying Mike Glennon to play QB, he was average college qb, what kind of numbskulls are running these teams

Glennon got $3 million more guaranteed too

We will be ready for Tyrod in Jacksonville next year!

You beat me to it. Matthews had the potential to be an asset, now?

And to think, some thought he wouldn't be able to fill Watkins' shoes in Buffalo
