VT vs Kentucky Roll Call

Anybody heading up to Kentucky to watch the Hokies play Kentucky?

How does everyone think Tech will show up fans wise?

If you've been to Lexington before any good places to eat or visit before or after the game?

Will do!

I'll be there! Driving down Friday, hitting the Wild Turkey distillery early Saturday morning out of principle.

Rip his freaking head off!

Not sure if you have an allegiance to Wild Turkey or not but figured I'd suggest going to practically any distillery in the area before going there. I did my bachelor party on the bourbon trail and Wild Turkey was the worst stop by far. Very corporate and don't get a sense of history. Buffalo Trace was my favorite stop, and is close to Lexington.

I thought Maker's Mark was also done really well.

And although I enjoy Woodard Reserve I didn't like their tour.

If you don't want to recruit clowns, don't run a clown show.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

Maker's was a close second. I'm a big fan of just about everything distilled at Buffalo Trace, so that could have made me lean towards them a bit.

I am not a bourbon guy whatsoever, but Jim Beam is pretty awesome...I know it's a 30-40min drive from Louisville (went there the day before our wedding YIKES) not sure about Lexington.

Buffalo Trace is liquid gold.

Good time to mention that the Virginia ABC stores are having their annual Pappy lottery. Damn, that must be some gooooooood stuff.

I can speak for the 12 year and say it is.

The big lottery ended yesterday (all of the below, but as a collection pack).

23 year starts the 13th through the 17th
15 year starts the 20th-24th
Special Reserve 12 year starts Jan 3rd-7th
Old Rip 10 year is the 10th-14th

It's crazy that have a lottery where the winner has the chance to pay $1,000+ for four bottles. That being said, I would absolutely be signing up if I were in VA.

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

I wonder if the makers of Pappy started this as Ohio just had their lottery for it as well.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

I also really liked the Maker's Mark tour, but it is not that close to Lexington any where.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

It's not my favorite bourbon, but I always drink it for VT games so I figured I should hit the distillery. I was at the UL-Clemson game in September, the Evan Williams tour in Louisville was incredibly well done.

Rip his freaking head off!

My mom has season Tix and is taking me! I'm thinking orange since it'll stand out better in the sea of blue. Section 213.

UK has some great tradition so get to Rupp early. The band goes around through the concourse before. Their intro video, introductions and energy is very impressive but not as exciting as enter sandman.

I'd recommend pies and pints right across the street (pizza:get the grape, chicken gouda or any of the shrimp pies) or West 6th if you're okay with a hike. The arena is also attached to a mall with plenty of food options.

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

I'll second Pies and Pints, it's delicious!

Grape and shrimp pizza? Pass.

We'll be sure to get there early. I believe I'm in section 215 Row B.
I still can't decide if I want to wear orange, maroon, or the black out shirt for this year.
We'll probably try and hit a lot of places while we're there get an appetizer or two and move onto the next.
See you up there!

I'll be there!

For good places to eat I recommend The Village Idiot, Pazzos, if you like cajun then go to Bourbon and Toulouse.
Country Boy Brewing has some great beer. West Sixth is good too.
A really cool area to check out is Pepper Campus. They've got Ethereal Brewing, Goodfellas Pizza, Crank and Boom Ice Cream, another nice restaurant I cant remember, and a couple other places that are pretty cool eats/drinks. The area is an old run down distillery thats been repurposed for restaurants and bars.

Also, here's another comment I had about Rupp: http://www.thekeyplay.com/comment/624331#comment-624331

The Cincinnati and Lexington Alumni Chapters reserved space for a pre-game party at the Tin Roof in Lexington starting at 11AM. I was able to get a VT branded basketball signed by Buzz Williams to raffle off. Drawing will be at 1 PM, raffle tickets are $10 each or 3/$25 . Be there and spread the word!

Do you know where you're sitting?
Thanks for those tips, ill be sure to hit a couple of those places up!

Good news guys, turns out we beat Washington who beat Kansas who beat Kentucky. We already won the game!

I was going to make the trip but had to cancel plans last minute. My entire family lives in eastern Kentucky so we were going to make the trip. I've still got a shirt to wear! I was pretending to act like I love both teams, but I'll be rooting for the Hokies. 😉 Usually my love for Kentucky basketball is never a problem.

"Tyrod, looking desperately, now throws it deep, has a man open, CAUUUGHT! Danny Coale, all the way!"

I have 3 favorite teams. VT, Kentucky, and whoever the hell is playing Tennessee.

Trying hard to not like this, but can't seem to muster the feels. Appreciate the sentiment and the effort to seem conflicted, but you could have at least put the Hokies first. Leg for the post, though.

Well - I will be there - but file this one under good Karma. My daughter is a student at UK, and will be singing the National Anthem for the game!
So the daughter of a Hokie sings the National Anthem at UK when the Hokies are visiting.
Guaranteed win!!

But will she be covering her heart and/or throwing a paper airplane as she sings it?

I knew someone was going to go there.

Given the two most active threads right now, it had to be done.

These two threads ain't worth two squirts of gobbler shit!

This is fantastic! When you say guaranteed win, do you mean for your family? That would be true, but I'm hoping you mean for the Hokies!

ESPN's predictor has Tech as a slight favorite in this game

51.5% to 48.5% in favor of VT

Kentucky isn't good

Always choose joy.

ESPN's predictive indices aren't good.

I refuse to believe that team full of mainly 5*'s isn't good.

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

Kentucky always starts slow because they essentially have a brand new starting 5 every season as a result of guys leaving early and the latest 5 star recruit taking a starting spot. They are always dangerous at tourney time as they have begun to figure out the system and each other by the end of the season. Better to get them early than late.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

STARS DON'T MATTER PAWWWWWWWWLLLL..but seriously, they've struggled this season. Most of these players might be two and through, or even all four years. We have the better Alexander family member. This isn't a good Kentucky team is probably what I should have said. Yes, they'll probalby end up in the top 25, but a late run in March, highly doubt it.

Always choose joy.

Year 3 is coming up!

I'll be there. My sister goes to UK and got me a ticket since I have to go to Lexington from Huntington to get her and bring her home. It's a student ticket, so I won't be hard to find. I'll be the only person in maroon surrounded by blue.

I'll be there. My roommate from Tech lives outside Lexington and got us tickets (no idea what section). He has a whole plan for Saturday pregame and postgame; having never been to Lexington myself, I didn't bother asking for details. Should be a fun day.

I will be there... rollin with about 8 Kentucky in-laws... section 40, row S (UK alumni section??).

Four of us are making the trip from the Nashville Hokies! We will be in Section 223.

As somebody previously mentioned - hope to see some folks at the pre-game event at Tin Roof!

After the game...heading to Louisville for the night.

My brother is a UK fanatic. Was a Pike and fraternity brother of Issel, Dampier, and some other players. He lives in Seattle and I'm trying to get him a buddy pass to Lexington and spend the weekend.

I was born in Ky and was a UK fan for a long time, but I'd surely love to see the Hokies pull off the upset, and I don't care what ESPN says, it would be a huge upset. I'd love to be there with my brother when it happens.

Kind of on Topic.

I got to this after checking the Hokie schedule. Funny.

Check out the scores!

Year 3 is coming up!

UVA has the same average points this year. But seriously, thank god for the shot clock.

So we went 11-0 in 1909-1910 with a win over powerhouse Lynchburg YMCA. I'm hereby claiming the 1909-1910 national championship.

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

Sacha Killeya-Jones and Quade Green (starting PG) are hurt and may not play.... Green's eye was swollen shut against Monmouth... would be a big loss for them.

Killeya- Jones (6-10 F) has an ankle issue and missed Monmouth game.

If those two are out it is a 6-7 man rotation for UK with Calipari's son playing PG

UK is ridiculously young and therefore inconsistent in really all phases except rebounding where they can destroy you on the boards with their length. We can't get obliterated on the boards and allow them to shoot 40% and still will due to second shots.

'Its easy to grin, when your ship comes in, and you've got the stock market beat,
but the man worthwhile, is the man who can smile, when his shorts are too tight in the seat'

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will start at PG for them if Green is out. Brad Calipari might get a couple minutes playing SG. He won't be able to guard anyone on our team, so he won't be playing much unless they get into foul trouble.
