Hatin' on the BIG Ten

How the hell do they get 3 premium bowl games. Fiesta, Orange, and Cotton. On top of that your conference champion just struggled against a team that everyone felt was overrated. Screw them!

You realize that without the Big Ten, we wouldn't be going to Orlando?

I still hate the conference of overrated teams.

Okay, then make your argument: What two teams would you put into New Year's Six bowls instead of 12-1 Wisconsin and 10-2 Penn State?

Well I guess if we want to avoid conference snobbery how about 12-0 UCF? I know the bar would have to be set high for a G5 team to do so and I suppose 12 wins is high.

They're already in, and based on their final ranking, they got there on their own merits.

My mistake. I'm so old I forgot the Peach is now one of the premium bowls.

I thought we were haitin on the big10, did it switch to SEC?

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

The Big Ten has had more than ten teams for nearly 26 years and hasn't figured it out.

The Big Ten thought admitting Maryland and Rutgers were good football moves and increased strength of schedule.

Ohio State lists Harvard and Yale as peer institutions. (No seriously, they do.)

Ohio State lists Harvard and Yale as peer institutions.

No they didn't. Quite the opposite in fact.

They admitted those schools for TV money, recruiting, making Penn State happy, and making it more likely - not less likely - that Ohio State, Michigan and/or Penn State will be in the running every year for a playoff spot.

And in spite of the fact none of those teams was elite this year, it still damned near worked.

And I can assure you neither Harvard nor Yale considers Ohio State a peer institution. (Side note: There used to be web page at the Chronicle of Higher Education where you could crosswalk claimed peer insitutions. It's amazing how few were mutual - and how many institutions delusionally confuse aspirational with actual peers. I've done a decent amount of benchmarking for universities and I'm often amused at their choices for peer institutions).

Well, they got zero teams into the playoffs, which leaves more of their top teams available for the "premium" bowl games

Exactly. They have a 12-1 team and a 11-2 B1G champion, yet no one in the playoff. Not sure there's anything to complain about.

anOSU got the 2106 anOSU treatment. Sure sucks, don't it.

As far as I can tell, the league's best non-conference win is still Indiana over loluva.

Are we not making fun of UVA anymore?

I think the irony of this makes it even funnier tbh

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

I suppose I can begrudgingly agree.

So our WVU win is better than their whole conference's best out of conference win?

You're selling the B1G short.

You conveniently forget UMd's win over 6-6 Texas and Purdue's win over 6-6 Mizzou. And let's not discount Big Blue's win over 4-7 Florida (when half the team was suspended), Wisconsin's drubbing of 3-9 BYU or Penn St's rivalry win over 5-7 Pitt.

Big Ten has a lot of old, old alumni for whom traveling to a bowl game is still a major event. They'll sell out just about everywhere and the tv ratings will be good all around. Don't forget, bowls are in it to make money

After seeing the title I expected video of the selection of the four playoff teams.

I still hate them

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

The Big 10 will go a 3rd consecutive year without scoring a point in the playoff

Rip his freaking head off!

Well the ACC certainly didn't deserve more than 2 teams in the premier bowls. In fact, just taking the top 3 teams in each conference, the ACC is near the bottom.

(Georgia, Bama, Auburn)>(OSU, Wisconsin, Penn St)>(Oklahoma, TCU, OKST)>(Clemson, Miami, VT)>(USC, Stanford, Washington)

Although I guess you could count ND for the ACC, although they got whooped at the end of the season.

I would take Clemson, Miami, VT against anOSU, Westconsin, and PennyState

I wouldn't. In fact, I'd take the PAC12 top three to go 2-1 against the ACC top 3.

Twitter me

Yeah, Miami has looked pretty bad since crushing us. Not sure I would taken them over Washington.

Miami has looked pretty bad since crushing us

You catch that Notre Dame game?

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Oh yeah, I meant since crushing ND. I forgot they were after our game.

Nah man, that's just crazy. Those are three top 10 teams.

VT is for sure a tier or two below each of those. We crumbled against both top teams we played.

It's hard to compare because Westconsin hasn't played anyone, but I like our D over their run game. Put 8 in the box and make Hornibrook make throws. I would certainly rather be playing Westconsin than Ok State.

Clemson would crush either anOSU or PennSt. That's two out of three. With their team speed, Miami might play either close.

I'd still take Wisconsin. They beat up on team at the caliber of like GT and Pitt. We struggled mightily against those teams. They also have a top25 win in Northwestern, whereas we have none.

I like our defense against them as well, just don't think the offense this year can back them up.

Duke beat Northwestern 41-17. It is hard to know what the B1G has because they play cupcakes and then circle jerk in conference.

So? Teams change over a season. You telling me you think the OSU we beat in 2014 was the same as the one that won the Natty? GT lost to a trash-ass Tennessee team and then we lost to them. You can bring up examples for every team in the country.

The ACC was meh this year. Great last year, but this year was not good outside of Clemson/Miami. And even Miami proved they can't compete with Clemson. Think about it, VT is the third best team in the ACC and who did we beat? A 7-5 WVU team?

We beat Duke, who beat one of the best teams in the B1G, and is the best team Wiskey beat. Miami looked great until they played Clempson. the B1G will show its colors in the bowl games, like last year.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Maybe, but as far as the top teams, ACC is lagging this year. The mid-tier ACC teams are solid though.

I think this is a fair ranking although imo you could make the case the ACC is at the bottom but it depends on how this works out. I guess alot of it comes down to who faces who? Are we saying how each team finishes overall in conference is who plays who? Or is it a round robin type deal where each 3 teams from the conference plays the other 3 from another conference?

...That's what Maryland does.

I don't give a damn what the fans think cause, quite frankly, I know what the fans want better than they do.

Just evaluating the teams as they are. Not matchups, not round robins.

Okay, I guess I saw a little debate of which team could take which team. So I get that teams as they are rankings. maybe I'm down on the ACC but I could see the conference being last. Mostly because of the "drop" from where clemson and Miami to us vs the tight grouping of the PAC-12.

...That's what Maryland does.

I agree, the ACC could be last. Although I think Clemson by themselves might lift us over the PAc12.

Yeah Clemson probably carries a majority of the weight.

You can thank the SEC-fluffers for that. Them getting two teams in the CFP is total garbage and it means the system is broken/corrupted.

And.... we could have an all SEC final... Jeesh

The Big 10 once named their divisions "Leaders" and "Legends" and it confused everyone including them, so they changed.

The Dude Abides

Wasn't it just Michigan was legends (because they used to be good) and Ohio State was leaders (because they were good recently) and then everybody else

The B1G lost the ACC-B1G roundball challenge 11-3.

I refer to the Big 10 Homers as "Truthers" - if anyone wants to meet the most irrational group of fan bases, look at the fans of Big 10 schools. The amount of elitism gets my blood boiling.

It must be because of the bleak weather and vitamin d deficiencies

I approve this post...my favorite bar is an Ohio State bar...oh, the whining

Whoops, thought we were talking about the B12. Anyways, they added fucking UMD & Rutgers.

Waho's suck
Uva swallows

the apathy of UMD "fans" to their sports is UVA -esque, without the smug, although a bit more low key. They thought the B1G would work out great, well for soccer, basketball yes, but football...oh no....and they are still cursed with the great 4th string qb to close out the season
