Open NFL Thread Dec 2017

I looked for one of these before posting and could not find one. I'd like to have an open NFL for those of us that do also keep up with pro ball. Just for general discussion of the week's NFL games or current events, all in one place.

Unlike with most topics here, many of us will have different teams as well as different levels of dedication to those teams. Please keep real debates of "my team vs. yours" out of here (show support for your team in a positive manner, don't trash talk). This is for objective discussion and opinions of the game at the pro level.

Even though this is football related, please let me know if it should be moved to OT forum. If there is one of these already that I missed, please let me know.

EDIT: As mentioned, I'm well aware that many TKPers are not NFL fans, so no real need to reiterate that here without offering something of substance to discuss. This thread is simply for those who do enjoy ball at the pro level and would like to discuss it.

DISCLAIMER: Forum topics may not have been written or edited by The Key Play staff.

For starters, after a very vicious MNF game, Shazier will not need back/spinal surgery, which is great after watching what happened.

That game was one of the nastiest I've ever seen, and not in a good way. Not good at all.

It may have been a nasty game, but you can't tell me you didn't smile just a little bit when Burfict got blown up by a WR. Couldn't have happened to a better person.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Tbh, no not for that one. The hit was what it was, but the taunting was over the top. Stupid mistake by a very young player. The only injury that didn't bother me to see was Mixon (sorry not sorry, still think he's low after what he did in college).

No.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

I disagree. The steelers have long been the dirtiest team in the NFL and a WR aiming for a helmet to helmet block is just another example of it. Shazier got what was coming to him as a result of his playing style. Guy leads with the helmet more often than not, which puts himself at as much risk to injury as the player he is trying to injure.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

I don't advocate for dirty play, but if Burfict is involved that all goes out the window. Burfict is the dirtiest player in the league and it isn't even close. He has been an undue danger to everyone on the field since high school. Dude tried to tear up Matt Barkley's knee when they were both committed to play for USC.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I think you're off base to assert that someone's primary intention in tackling is to injure other people. Either you have some insight and knowledge that others are not privy to, or you're making a biased statement not based in fact but your own interpretation of your observations. I don't think anyone is coming here to read that a player getting taken to the hospital with a very serious injury "got what's coming to them". Let's try and remember why we're fans of the sport, here.

Unless you're talking about Ronnie Lott

To be fair, the NFL did move to make leading with the crown head-to-head hits (even on players who wouldn't qualify as "defenseless") after a Ryan Shazier hit to Giovani Bernard that knocked him out cold. Various outlets referred to it as "the Ryan Shazier Rule". You don't launch the crown of your helmet into someone's jaw, ear hole, facemask, etc unless you're looking to harm them. Obviously you never want to see someone hurt, but his own poor "head down" form led to him getting hurt on Monday.

Chem PhD '16

Leg for reinforcing my point with better information

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

You're still providing conjecture. Poor form is observable... intent was NOT observable in this tackle. My argument is not that he didn't lay a poor tackle, that much was clear.... but that for someone to say "he got what he deserved because he was trying to hurt the other person" is a tasteless comment based on nothing other than opinion.

Edit... also Ryan's helmet hit the dude's thigh, that's like 3 feet away from his head.

I'll agree with your assessment of NFL tackling, but I think people have been on notice for a couple years now honestly. Rules have changed a lot as a result. I guess the surprise is that a game gets this vicious in spite of those new rules. For better or worse, it's hard (impossible?) to regulate emotion in this game of football.

Yeah, yall have had it rough. Least McAdoo and Reese are gone. Any ideas on who you guys'll bring in?

Spags got the interim tag and I know the Maras have been pretty big with keeping things in-house over the years. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets the full-time job. But personally, I think we have enough data from his time with the Rams to know he isn't a top-notch head coach. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Kevin Abrams take over as GM, since he's been in the front office for years. So many whiffed draft picks left and right over the last 10 years under Reese.

The big thing for me will be fixing the offense. McAdoo spent two years as HC relying on a moment of Odell Magic™ to try to win games. The next OC certainly has his work cut out for him. The OL is not so good. Orleans Darkwa is serviceable at best. It would be a big coup to get someone like Jim Bob Cooter to run a similar offense next year, as that kind of short passing game to athletes in space would be awesome for players like OBJ, Sterling Shepard, Shane Vereen, etc... especially with big physical presences like Engram and Marshall (if he comes back) around too. And Eli has the chops to make it work without having to force the ball into tight windows downfield. Problem is that JBC doesn't have much incentive to make a lateral move to NYG.

Edit to add: I honestly believe that so much of the problems this year were injury related but also the fact that everyone realized McAdoo was completely inept and had no faith in him. Lots of rumors that the locker room was very split down offense/defense lines and that McAdoo didn't get on well with the defensive guys (see suspensions for Jenkins and DRC this year). It sucks that the defense and the team in general quit on McAdoo, but he definitely earned that lack of confidence in his ability as a coach and people manager. Don't know how the offense was ever going to function with a WR corps of Tavarres King, Travis Rudolph, and Roger Lewis, but the defense quitting is just disappointing.

Chem PhD '16

Way more problems with the Giants. The entire offensive line is decimated, just as bad as the WR corps. The defense has NOT lived up to the potential and the secondary minus Landon Collins have all acted immature all season.

Spags should not be the guy, nor should the interim GM. Clean house.

I fear that they might try to not pick a top QB if they have the chance, and that would cripple the damn franchise forever.

Do you go on www.bigblueinteractive.com ? Best Giant's forum around.

What's
Important
Now

I don't. This is really the only sports forum I frequent. Having said that, the question was what do I think will happen with HC/GM and not necessarily what I think should happen... I agree Spags and Abrams shouldn't be the people moving forward, but look at the history Mara has with these kinds of decisions -- he's even including Ernie Accorsi in his GM search.

The Vikings are actually playing great, and not showing major signs of weakness. As a Vikings fan I've experienced this so few times in my lifetime so I don't know how to respond to it.

I think in the playoffs every team will be scared to face you guys, if Keenum gets hurt you still have Bridgewater. This past Sunday night we saw how to beat my Eagles, have a coach that has more common sense than Doug Pederson.

Meh... that was just a bad game for the Eagles. If you're expecting Wentz to fumble the ball through the end zone every game, you're gonna have a bad time.

For now, they're still the most complete team in the NFC, and if they can clinch home field, it'll be really tough to see someone other than them going to SBLII

"Some days you’re a horse and some days you’re a horse’s ass. I’ve been a horse’s ass for a little while." - Roy Halladay

It was definitely a rough game for him and the team, will still give him some blame but still love him as our QB, and don't expect him to fumble on every play now. I am still confused with Doug Pederson trying to be too safe against Seattle on offense. I didn't expect the defence to shut out Wilson (he is a name that popped up for MVP) but the offense hurt them a lot by not scoring.

"Oi! What's a Horkie"

Yeah, the playcalling was a little perplexing, but crap games happen. I'm not willing to call him the second coming of Mike Shula until it happens consistently. I think some of the national talking heads nailed it when discussing the game... Seattle's back was against the wall, and they played with intensity the Eagles haven't really experienced, yet. They went conservative and it bit them. Next time, they'll handle it differently. But even with that said, that game was much closer than the score, and even with a dud of a game, Wentz looked good and they had a legitimate chance at pulling it off. But the fluky plays happened, and it put it a little out of reach. In a game where they experienced a little Seattle-style home cooking, its not the end of the world. That happens to the best teams every year.

The play that drained my spirits was when Wilson threw the lateral to get the first down on third and long. That play was amazing and it looked like it tore the out defense's heart too.

Isn't that the play that was pretty clearly a forward pass, and DP didn't challenge? Once again, its just one of those things that happens in a game where you're just destined to lose. It happens.

"Some days you’re a horse and some days you’re a horse’s ass. I’ve been a horse’s ass for a little while." - Roy Halladay

it looked backwards to me

Recruit Prosim

The Eagles played a bad game. For all the shooting themselves in the foot, and playing very timid and out of character, if Wentz holds on to the ball at the one it's going to be 10-10 and a different game. That's not even to speak of him straight up missing a wide open Agholor for 6 it under-throwing him on the same ply flipped to the other side later in the game.

Wilson is just a bad matchup for the Eagles. Their o-line is so bad that he is already prepared to run backwards on a lot of plays. It neutralizes the Eagles dline to some extent.

With that said if they see the. In the playoffs the Eagles win that rematch

If there is a rematch I hope Schwartz figured Wilson out to win. Wilson had a hell of a game with his scrambling getting away from our D-line. I saw his name mentioned as MVP candidate and thought that game he proved himself to be in the conversation. Hope it is only a fluke Philly shot themselves in the foot because this team got me believing again after seeing 4 straight years of every Philly team being bad.

"Oi! What's a Horkie"
"I am ya Grot!"

"Horkies were made for two fings foighten' and winnen'" - Horkie Warboss

this team got me believing again after seeing 4 straight years of every Philly team being bad.

And as you should be. Wentz is proving himself to be the real deal, and should be one of the headliners of the next generation of great QBs after Brady, Rogers, Brees, and Rivers hang them up. And that defense is just flat out dominant, and they should only be getting better. Locking up Jeffrey was a good deal as well, and if they can keep Ajayi healthy, they should remain at or near the top of the conference for a while going forward. They are well positioned to go into the post-Brady era of the NFL as one of the perennial favorites, with the likes of the Rams, Texans, and Seahawks, based on QB play alone.

And that's not the only Philly team that's getting ready to be really good. The Sixers are just starting to scratch the surface on how good they could possibly be. With Simmons and Embiid, they're in most games, but they're still learning how to win at this level. But you have to be encouraged seeing them go up huge on both the GSW and Cavs this season before eventually losing. The lessons learned in those games will pay off in future years. Oh, and this is without Fultz (which, let me tell you how comically premature all these "the Sixers must totally regret that draft now" articles are. No, they don't. They're just letting him get to 100% healthy before unleashing him on the league).

But the Flyers and Phillies... Yeah, nothing really worth looking forward to there, at least not for the near future.

"Some days you’re a horse and some days you’re a horse’s ass. I’ve been a horse’s ass for a little while." - Roy Halladay

Not big in basketball but do see what CSN Philly writes up about the Sixers.
Phillies are rebuilding right now after Amaro Jr. got rid of almost everyone on the farm system for free agents that played only a couple years. Just hired a coach they want long term (Mckanen was put in a higher position in the organization so I wouldn't call fired) and getting the farm system back where it needs to be.
Flyers are in a weird situation, I trust Hextall as a GM and Hakstol as a coach, being in a rebuild yet not a rebuild. Hakstol's first year I call a fluke to get into the playoffs and showed they're not ready with Caps beating them in the first round. They look like they can do something but have been losing close games, many in OT.

"Oi! What's a Horkie"

"Horkies were made for two fings foighten' and winnen'" - Horkie Warboss

As with any game, bad games happen. A couple missed connections (over or under thrown), and that fumble through the end zone don't happen frequently. Also, the one drive where the Eagles would make the stop, but get called for PI/Holding (not debating the calls) essentially led to the first Seattle TD. A few minor changes alter the outcome of the game.

The team did play a bad game, but I still believe in them this season by winning the East and having a chance at the No. 1 seed. I think this game wakes them up from coasting the past few weeks to be serious with their competition and get ready for playoffs. They are a young team that has very few veterans that knows what it feels like to have a winning season and have playoff experience, hopefully they can help keep the young guys from being too flustered and not implode on themselves.

Oddly enough, watching that game made me feel like I was watching the Hokies. The plays were there, but the execution wasn't. Hard to say if the Seattle defense was that disruptive, or the offense was just off their game.

I agree with you on the "wake up call" because they had been steamrolling teams for 4 weeks prior.

Such a boring product. It has been hard to care since the salary cap era started. The lack of innovation on both sides of the football, especially defensively, coupled with the lack of roster depth, creates an incredibly boring product. Watching the NFL now is like watching the XFL 20 years ago.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

I think you might enjoy some Vikings games defensively. Everson Griffen and Danielle Hunter have been incredible edge rushers crazy bend/athleticism from those guys, and Linval Joseph makes lots of those plays you highlight Settle/Walker for. Plus Harrison Smith and Sendejo play a fun brand of safety on the back end. That said, I do agree that overall the NFL has a much less exciting product week to week, and the ratings and viewership numbers seem to support this.

nfl Sux big time

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

The NFL is in the middle of an identity crisis just like baseball had a few years ago before Harper, Stanton, and Judge.

Led by boarderline starters kneeling, mediocre QB plays, no bruising running game, bland teams and the same boring teams always on top.

As a fan, we have been, spygated, inflategated, and kneegated to oblivion, watched millionaires kneel shoved in our faces when they do, backup QB's dominate headlines, criminal cases dissected 100 ways, and coach speak sprinkle down the players.

There isn't really any player that translates to the casual fan and excites you to want to watch them. People would sit down to see what Vick would do no matter how you felt. Manning high octane offense and his red over sized forehead, rivalries that mattered, defenses that had personality, and Special teams that were actually special. Now we have pretty boys and advocates, owners and whiners, floppy armed QB's and Kale eating preacher boys.

The tone of the NFL has shifted from the play on the field to the voice off the field and I am out.

BTW, I am a colts fan so yea them sucking is a reason as well.

"Welcome to the Terror Dome." -- Corey Moore

Don't mean to start a whole kneeling debate but I find it interesting in a year with the Olympics, where you'll have American athletes in tears hearing the National Anthem played while the flag is raised for getting the gold.....and yet some millionaires are kneeling for it over who knows what now....I don't even think they know.

They're protesting the continual killing of unarmed black men by cops nationwide. They've said this every time its been asked, they're not exactly hiding it. Yet, there's a lot of disinformation out there to muddy those waters to prevent that message from getting heard.

They have the right to protest just like everyone else, what is killing it is the constant over dissection of it by the media. Just let it happen and go on with the game.

"Welcome to the Terror Dome." -- Corey Moore

Agree with this. If the media just left it alone and didn't bring it up every sunday or Monday I think it would end eventually.

Do something to affect it....and I'm sure some do, but donate or be active in poor communities where they have a lack of role models to look up to.

Plus I don't think the data supports "the continual killing of unarmed black men by cops nationwide."

As some have said there has been an effort by some to muddy the water and turn story into a condemnation of entitled rich athletes disrespecting the country.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

Sorry BAG, have to strongly disagree with you on this. French gets to the real heart of the issue earlier in this thread: the salary cap.

Owners and GMs are so reluctant to go over the cap, it has really hurt roster continuity. Given that veterans are more expensive, they're the ones often getting cut and moving on elsewhere. A good example of this is the Packers letting T.J. Lang and J.C. Tretter walk in free agency.

The average age of teams is younger now because younger = cheaper. The drawback of playing younger players is that they're inexperienced and prone to making more mistakes.

The Ringer had a really good piece on this last year, and I've included a few telling lines below:

Football Outsiders tracks a statistic called "Snap-Weighted Age" that averages the age of the players on the field based on snaps. In 2015, the league-wide average age hit its lowest mark since the site started keeping track a decade ago. In 2006, the average age of the players on the field was 27.2; in 2015, it was 26.6. On offenses alone, the average age of players on the field dipped almost a full year, from 27.6 in 2006 to 26.8 last year.

That's partially because teams are now less inclined to keep aging players around. Despite medical and nutritional advancements, NFL careers are ending earlier for anyone who isn't a quarterback or a special teams cog. In every year since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970, a 36-year-old offensive lineman had appeared in a game — until last season, when there were no 35-year-olds, either. Last year, the number of offensive linemen age 28 or over who appeared in a game dropped nearly 20 percent compared to 2011, while the number of players age 31 or older at any position fell 20 percent from a decade ago.

It's also because rookies are flooding the league. This year's draft featured 107 early entrants, easily a record. Last season, 25 players age 21 or younger appeared in an NFL game, five times as many as in 2000 and more than double the total in 2012, a year after the league's latest collective bargaining agreement was struck.

https://www.theringer.com/2016/9/7/16077250/the-nfl-has-an-age-problem-7068825845e4

Unlike MLB or NBA where there is a luxury tax threshold, the NFL has a hard cap with hard penalties for teams who spend above it. The best way to win in any sort of cost-controlled environment is absolutely to hit big on talented players with rookie deals and supplement them with veterans that have more guaranteed money. Look at how cyclical the league is in terms of which teams are contenders. For the teams that are perennial contenders (see packers, patriots, steelers), look how quickly they churn through contributors on their roster.

Rookie contracts is how the Seahawks dominated the NFL for 2013/2014. It felt like their entire secondary was on Rookie contracts, as well as Wilson. They drafted perfectly leading up to those Superbowl appearances.

Dear Dan Snyder,

Please sign Kurt Cousins to a long term deal. He is the best QB Washington has had since Mark Rypien won the Super Bowl. Lets get that question out of the way and just sign a long term QB. Then we can work on the rest of what's broke.

Don't freak out, but the Jags are guaranteed to at least finish at .500 this season! That D is sick.

Just hope they can upgrade at QB in the offseason. If so, they'll jump to the top of the AFC South. They'd have to give up too much to trade up for an early draft pick unfortunately. Hopefully a solid FA signing? Lots of Redskin fans in here, can we steal Kirk Cousins? Thanks!

This is a really good breakdown of the Cousins situation:

Cousins-What's changed and what hasn't

Basically, if they franchise him for a third consecutive year they will owe him way more guaranteed money than any player currently makes (>$34 million, Carr is highest, scheduled for $22.5 million). They can test his market value by putting the transition tag on him so other teams can offer him a long-term deal, because they then get the opportunity to match any other team's offer. If they cannot or will not match, they lose Cousins and do not get any draft picks.

A lot of speculation at the beginning of the season was that he would go to the Rams (because of McVay) or the Niners (because of Shanahan), but both of those teams now look to have their QBs of the future. Jax is a good landing spot for Cousins, but it all depends on what happens with Eli Manning. If Eli wants to leave NY, Coughlin would probably pick him up instead of Cousins.

Solid recap here. Didn't realize Washington would have to pay him that much. Not looking so good for them unless they match a contract, like you said. I'd rather have Cousins than Eli at this point, since he is definitely at the twilight of his career. Unless they think he'll play better in the next 2 yrs than Cousins, then draft someone later on.

Hola fellow Jags fan. I do not want Cousins. Wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot poll.

Overpaying average QBs decimates franchises.

Always choose joy.

How would you feel about Tyrod leaving Buffalo for JAX? I think that would be a perfect situation for him. Solid weapons at WR, (Robinson, Lee, Hurns). Beast RB in the backfield to produce a rushing attack along with his own mobility. A great defense, so he doesn't have to do much besides not turn the ball over (his specialty). I think Tyrod in Jacksonville could be the makings of a title contender for a few years

Oh I was praying they could get him last off season. Certainly should've made a move when they benched him.

Really just any improvement at QB and the future will look brighter.

I'm a long time Redskins fan, so I've been done with the NFL for 25 years now.

Is it football season yet?

Long-suffering Falcons fan here. I give them only a 28.3% chance of making the playoffs this year, even after the win against the Saints.

Apparently Diddy (or P. Diddy or Puff Daddy or whatever) wants to buy the Panthers. He says he'll sign Colin Kaepernick as his QB.

Sign me up. If anything, the schadenfreude from such an event in this area would keep me going for years to come. There are already people seriously melting down over the possibility.

That being said, I don't think he has the money. The franchise is valued at around $2b, and his net worth is in the $500m range. He'd have to line up a long list of suitors, and in all likelihood, he wouldn't be a majority owner. Plus, that whole thing about Kaep is just pandering. I mean don't get me wrong, swapping Anderson for Kaep as a backup is probably best for the franchise, because you can keep running the same system if Cam goes out, but you don't bring in Kaep to unseat Cam. Even if you're bringing in Kaep for the reasons that he would obviously bring him in, you aren't putting him over Cam.

Tyrod should be an MVP candidate just for the negative yards he's saving the Bills. The Jags D is owning that OLine.

I hope peterman throws a pick six to cap it. Tyrod please get out of Buffalo this offseason.

As much as I love Tyrod, he left a lot of plays on the field.

Romo is great in the booth, and was pointing out throw after throw that was definitely there.

No doubt he didn't have a perfect game, and I agree at times he doesn't see the field and misses some open receivers. But he also has almost zero help around him. It's hard to make perfect reads when you are getting mauled and running for your life half of the game.

He's not a the best QB in the league, but with a good supporting cast around him, he can be a consistent playoff caliber QB.

Romo is a pussy's pussy.

He would have come off with a hurt back during pre-game after CC looked at him sideways.

That's just fucking absurd. I really hope he ends up somewhere that doesn't suck this offseason. As others said above, he might not be a top-5 type QB, but he can be a consistent, playoff-caliber QB in the right situation. Here's to the bills going 1-15 with peterman next year.

"Those who jump into the void owe no explanation to those who stand and watch."

Character issues? Yeah, he's got too much character and class for that ungrateful fanbase.

The closest thing Tyrod has to "character issues" is that he's quiet and humble.

The fans that grasp at anything. Tyrod literally broke the drought in spite of everything, took a pay cut, got shafted for a bonus last year, and his receivers dropped passes all game that were in their hands. It's hard to see an open receiver when you're running from 300 pound linemen.

It's easy for Peterman to make the throws because he doesn't have that lack of faith in his receivers, but we've seen what he does under pressure.

Seriously. Attacking Tyrod's character shows the lack of character in the fan base.

Guess he should've pulled a Tyrod to Tyrod touchdown. /s was kinder hoping for some Nebraska Tyrod magic

Cam just showed he has that extra level he can go to in the playoffs. He looked real good today, but my goodness did the rest of that offense let him down. Not only that, but Mike Shula might be more incompetent as a play caller than Stinespring was. It's unreal how much this scheme is holding them back.

"Some days you’re a horse and some days you’re a horse’s ass. I’ve been a horse’s ass for a little while." - Roy Halladay

Bet they were missing Ted Ginn on that long catch-and-run play. Carolina has literally no WRs that strike fear into opposing secondaries.

Despite that, I actually thought the offense did well today against the Saints.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

You, me, and everyone finally gets their wish granted. Shula (and Dorsey) are no more in Carolina. I was really pleased to see Rivera got an extension but was a little bummed because I didn't think the offensive staff would be shaken up, but they've proved me wrong. Let's go get someone who can do better.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

Lots and lots of smoke about it possibly being Norv Turner, because Rivera stressed in his presser today that its going to be a ball control run oriented offense going forward... Which, while it wouldn't be a home run hire, would at least be an improvement over Shula. The ball control offense isn't a bad play, if you can run it efficiently. Shula couldn't. If Turner can, then its a win.

That being said, Rivera has to know his neck is on the chopping block next year if this doesn't work. New ownership, likely a new GM, a MVP franchise QB who has been misused since the Super Bowl run... 2018 is his opportunity to prove himself still worthy to coach the team. It has to go right, or he's done, and even then, he might still be done anyway.

"Some days you’re a horse and some days you’re a horse’s ass. I’ve been a horse’s ass for a little while." - Roy Halladay

Tyrod doesn't have a whole lot of help but he missed a few key throws that could have won the game

How many hits and plays running for your life does a guy like that have to have? It totally disrupts a QB, no matter how good.

Tyrod was an amazing QB for us, and he's the reason the Bills are my favorite NFL team, but the cult following around him by VT fans is a little much. He had two overthrows that would have been touchdowns or near touchdowns. When you play on a shitty team you have the make those around you better, and you do that by cashing in on the very few opportunities you're actually going to get in the game.

Tyrod definitely didn't have a great game, but with an awful o-line and no real playmakers it's hard to consistently move the ball. Plus they were playing the best defense in the league on the road.

Te to qb

No real playmakers? LeSean McCoy is the real deal. Although it's humorous that one of Tyrod's most consistent passing options is a running back.

Was watching the Carolina game...

Literally everyone is openly wondering which QB FA they are going to sign this year. Watching the pregame for the Eagles they were talking about the Bills-Jags game and one of the guys was just openly saying how screwed buffalo was because of Tyrod. The implication being that he's not a QB you can win with.

He made such a mistake last year in restructuring his deal. He needed to milk that franchise for all they were worth because they just cost him tens of millions in future earnings with the character assassination they performed the last 24 months.

"Some days you’re a horse and some days you’re a horse’s ass. I’ve been a horse’s ass for a little while." - Roy Halladay

I am rooting for the jags because of a deceased TV character

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

As a Steelers fan I'm embarrassed. You let Bortles and that offense drop 45 on you?? You make shitty calls on 4th and short?? A stupid onside kick decision that cost you 7 more points??

Clean house. Fire Tomlin, Haley, and Butler. Make sure you resign Brown, Bell and the o-line. Time to start fresh. Let's go Saints and Jags.

"It's a miracle in Blacksburg, TYROD DID IT MIKEY, TYROD DID IT!"

As a Ravens fan, I would be ecstatic if the Steelers fired Tomlin. Please do it. Please.

Seriously it's interesting how many Steelers fans want Tomlin fired considering how good they have been under him. You can argue they have underachieved based on the talent they have, but a lot of that talent developed under him. And he hasn't had a losing season. They aren't going to fire him any time soon man.

Virginia Tech School of Architecture Class of 2014
Fan of Hokies, Ravens, NY Giants, Orioles

Probably a bit hasty to call for Tomlin's head, but it's frustrating to watch this team flounder when it matters. It looked like they hadn't even prepared this week for the Jags, and based upon all the smack talk about meeting NE it appears as if that's what happened. That's Tomlin's responsibility. Again probably hasty to call for him to get ousted...but still. Not happy with the way the team looked today or all season for that matter.

"It's a miracle in Blacksburg, TYROD DID IT MIKEY, TYROD DID IT!"

That's fair. It certainly feels like the Steelers can accomplish more than they have because of the extremely talented players they have. And some of it does fall on coaching. Just seems like a huge gamble to think they could find an upgrade from Tomlin without wasting the prime years of bell and brown. So I doubt he gets fired in the next 5 or even 10 years

Virginia Tech School of Architecture Class of 2014

Bell says that if they put the franchise tag on him he'll retire. Haley will be gone. Not much else to say about the other stupid stuff. Brown is f'ing amazing though. Anyway ice is off the lake so its time to fish!

Year 3 is coming up!

Give me a Jags-Eagles Super Bowl.

Jags D is really good, but I would take the Eagles D vs Bortles any day, and count on their run defense limiting the Jags run game just enough.

The Steelers talked a lot about a rematch with the Patriots, and then forgot the most important part. Not sure how you overlook a team that whupped your ass at home earliar in the season, but Steelers managed it.

That would probably be the least watched Superbowl since it was in black and white.

Lol

Its silly to think people won't watch the Super Bowl, or any Super Bowl. Ratings truthers are hilarious

I don't either, but is it a revolutionary concept to think the Jags and Eagles may have fans who would watch that Superbowl?

#thingsiblamethemvsfor

Pretty clear the guy was saying enthusiasm outside those fan bases is not high.

For me the Jags D was much more interesting before Steelers took the top off... and Philly was looking interesting before Nick F took over at QB. Games of interest:

Pats Jags (sorry Pats take down Jags O... Bortles will have to run like a deer ... but he has the last couple weeks)
Pats Vikes (its an improbability story, you just have to watch)

that's pretty much it....everything else is damaged goods. Has nothing to do with being a "truther".

Good plan in principle. Completely missed him, though.

As the announcers pointed out on the post-game show, it looks like the safety realized he over-pursued, and then tried to avoid the pass interference. I'm sure the coaches drilled NO DPI into the secondary's heads during the timeout. When I saw it live, I thought he tried to lay the boom instead of wrapping up. It wasn't until I rewatched it that I noticed he was completely trying to avoid contact with Diggs.
