ND is up 36-30 over Princeton at half.

Another white bronco? The first one didn't go too far.

UVA trailing UNCW early, 15-11.

Wilkins (who was a game time decision) seems like he's gassed already.

*23-11

I've been telling folks that UVA is one opponent's good shooting night away from elimination. They can't keep up with a team that can drain 3s, and UNCW does just that.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

UNCW up 23-11 now with 8:30 left. They remind me of the Florida Gulf Coast team of 2013? (Not sure of the year)

Another white bronco? The first one didn't go too far.

pretty sure 2013 is correct.

Another white bronco? The first one didn't go too far.

I've got UNCW through to the sweet 16 over ETSU. I wouldn't want any part of them either. With our defense they could hang 100 on us.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

You have ETSU over Florida?

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

Dang. UVA cuts it to a 2-point game with 3:39 left in the first half.

Losing

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

If they hadn't beaten Arizona they'd have a 3 seed tier resume.

I hesitate to call them overrated because they did get that win, but they've done nothing else impressive enough for me to call them a 1 seed team. Most ACC teams could run the table in the WCC.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I wouldn't quite go that far, most teams in the ACC would struggle on Saint Mary's home court.

Is 76 points a season high for UVA?

Another white bronco? The first one didn't go too far.

I'm pretty sure they flamed Louisville both times they played.

UVA survives. Dang.

So far, no boring games. At least of the ones I've seen.

Disregard this post.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Bucknell has missed 2 wide open put backs already.

Bucknell blows it the final 2 minutes of the 1st half. Should be a 4 point game. Instead it's 9. Bucknell's playing good defense, but can't seem to shoot in the half court (even on open looks).

I can't seem to find it - does anybody know that the conference payouts are this year for tournament performance?

Each game played in this year's tournament is worth $265,791. That money is paid out in each of the next six years (2017-22), with the number for each game, or unit, growing each year of the payout. That puts the total value of a game played in this year's tournament at more than $1.59 million.

Same here. Maryland can suck one

Picked that one, but only Bc I don't like UMD.

My only loss so far was UVA, who I more or less picked against out of spite

My bracket was looking excellent until we lost, but I regret nothing.

Oof. I'm 11-5 after the first day of games and I had UNCW making a mini-run to the sweet sixteen.

I have now lost three games on day 1 after the Hokies < Wiscy + Refs.

On my way to work today I thought about Nigel Hayes and they called a foul on me.

Pretty sure the refs were still calling fouls on Hokies thirty minutes after the game ended.

Found this photo from Hayes' picture day.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

This is shaping up to be the worst first round ever that I can remember. Crappy games, no real upsets, sloppy basketball. Maybe the last 8 or 9 games can make up for it.

I agree was watching the games at work today nothing exciting a few kind of close games but nothing to get you off your seats fun yet

U suck at this Miami

Miami looks like ripe garbage

Yep, Wisconsin sure is an 8 seed.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Selection committee did such a bad job in their seeding of Wisconsin.

I'm fine with our lose to them. As an at large team you are going to have to beat good teams sooner or later. But Duke got a better draw in the same bracket than the #1 overall seed did

Honestly, we should be pretty upset at our treatment in the selection process. Wisconsin had no business being in the 8/9 matchup and the team they got seeded against was going to be placed to lose. And they just proved it today. We basically got the opponent equivalent of a 12 to 14 seed.

But whatever, it is what it is.

I didn't, but I was in Vegas for the first two rounds and did bet on Wisky to beat Nova at +235. My bracket is crap but that bet wasn't.

I love seeing Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the stands for the Northwestern games, for some reason.

They'll show a wide shot of the N'Western fans and I think to myself, "I wonder if I can spot Julia Louis-Dreyfus." It's very Ashley Judd-esque.

She's an NW alum and her son is on the team.

FUCK NCAA REFS. FUCK THE NCAA IN GENERAL.

I'm watching the Northwestern game and that missed goaltending call was atrocious. Chris Collins had every fucking right to be that pissed. What a momentum change. I guess they don't want NW in the Sweet 16 so NW won't be in the Sweet 16.

And I'm not even drinking. Fuck the NCAA...

Two things.

First, fuck that guy. Fucking tool.

Second, our own Seth Allen sorta made a cameo in the Danny Manning clip back when he was still at Maryland.

This tourney would be so much better with neutral refs. I watched the URI-Oregon game last night in California. In the first period, Oregon was in the bonus with 10 minutes to go in the half. URI never made it to the bonus in the first half. In the second half, with URI leading with a comfortable margin, Oregon went into the bonus with 13 minutes!!! to go. URI again never made it to the bonus. The calling was outrageous and completely one sided. These ref's have clear priorities in some games.

Xavier is taking it to FSU.

Looks at bracket.

Jerome and Guy have both badly airballed 3s in the past couple of UVA possessions. I don't think it's going to happen for them tonight.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

UVA's gonna have to go on one of those runs where they stop their opponent from scoring for 7-8 minutes.

The problem is even if that happens they can't score enough to catch up.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Looks like they decided to not score themselves for 8 minutes instead

They're in danger of getting doubled up loluva game strong

A 5 seed not even reaching 40 points in an NCAA tournament game is embarrassing.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Buzz had a 3seed Marquette score 39 against Syracuse in 2013.

And I bet he was embarrassed

It's funny because that team was probably Buzz's best team at Marquette. They only scored 39, but it was actually close until the final 10 minutes.

That team would probably destroy this UVA team though, they embarrassed the ACC champ in the sweet 16 to make it to that Cuse game.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Hey UVA.....

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

Wow.

The ACC had a tough round. Didn't catch any breaks anywhere so far.

The Big 10, however, may have made a deal with the devil or something.

So which is worse ACC's Tournament showing or SEC's bowl season? I'm leaning towards the ACC's...

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

If Duke and UNC make the Final Four everyone will forget about this weekend.

I will never, ever, ever hope for Duke to make it to the final four, conference pride be damned. I hope they lose the next game by 40.

Duke is gonna fall. I'm happy about that.

My sentiments exactly. I have no so called conference "loyalty".

From loco to nitwhitt. Got to be some connection there.

Always be yourself. Because the people that matter, don't mind. And the one's that mind, don't matter.

Normally I'd agree, but I'm already seeing articles ripping on the ACC for this and retroactively saying teams like Miami"and especially Virginia Tech" didn't deserve to be in the tournament this year.

Worries me that we at VT will be overly punished for the league next year if we are anywhere remotely close to bubble status. It's not like that committee is known to hold grudges...

Playing a close game with sweet 16 Wisconsin who just beat one seed Villanova, shouldn't be hurting us too bad in the eyes of anyone who actually watched the games.

Since when have you ever gotten the feeling that the committee actually watches games?

Don't let this comment take away from the fact that Arkansas blew a 24 point 2nd half lead in the Belk Bowl.
Don't let the Belk Bowl take away from the fact that Matt Ryan blew a 25 point 2nd half lead in the Super Bowl.

If these opinions are coming from articles written by non-committee members then I have a hard time drawing the same conclusions that you are about the opinions of the committee members.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I'm speaking in general. the committee rarely actually watches the games of the teams they're making decisions upon. From how I understand the process works they pretty much look purely at resumes (both by name and blind resumes when comparing schools) and RPI standings, and then have representatives from each conference vouch for the members they're supposed to be representing. The only games they really watch are a few of the final games of the conference tournaments, but otherwise they go based on numbers. They also can be heavily, heavily influenced by public opinion, due to the fact they don't watch the games, much like how you get the confirmation bias in the college football polls. You have to remember, most (if not all) of the committee members are school ADs, so these people have high involvement jobs outside of being on the selection committee, so for the majority of them, the first time they really get to think about who should be in is when they're all sitting together on Selection Weekend.

Don't let this comment take away from the fact that Arkansas blew a 24 point 2nd half lead in the Belk Bowl.

Can't hear, but I see Buzz as a guest on CBS right now.

And he's rocking the VT pin very well.

Another white bronco? The first one didn't go too far.

Indeed.

It's nice that the media thinks highly of him. (I mean, he's successful, so he's relevant; he's knowledgeable, so he's value-added on the show; and he's weird, so he provides good fodder.). I wonder how much it helps in the living room, when he gets extra time on the tube.

I thought some of the ACC's teams' fans were obnoxious, but then I moved to Kansas City.

Nothing would make me happier than to see Kansas go down to Purdue.

I was delighted with all of the results Thursday and Friday. Hoping for UNC/Kansas/?/?

My bracket is so ruthlessly busted at this point, I'm just rooting for the battle to be called "Carolina" also USCjr is the biggest Cinderella left.

i guess go gonzaga? the finish to that florida game was such a gut punch

...I choose to believe if we had been properly seeded in that #7 spot, we would be playing in the final four right now.

We put the K in Kwality

Doesn't mean they weren't overseeded though. Hindsight is fine, but I believe that the Hokies could have defeated Marquette and Duke at least as well.

We know the Hokies can beat Duke.

End of the Kentucky/UNC game was awesome. Rooting for Gonzaga vs UNC in the final, UNC victory.

man f*** UNC. I'm rooting for Oregon to beat SCAR in the final

If a tree falls in Scott Stadium does it make a sound?

I win my most important bracket pool (the only one that means more than pride) if UNC beats USCe for the championship. I finish second (which is still worth something) if UNC beats Gonzaga for the championship. I go home empty handed if UNC loses the tournament.

Go Heels! *gag*

I say go Heels, no gag necessary. Living in Pac 12 country the Ducks and their fans can disappear forever as far as I'm concerned.

A Gonzaga/UNC final game to me would be must watch television. I think UNC would honestly destroy South Carolina, even though USCe has been playing really good D to this point.

Nah fuck that. Living in NC I want the Heels to get their asses handed to them by Oregon.

Man this title game has been completely taken over by the whistles. This second half is an embarrassment to the sport, yet completely typical of the college game.

Gonzaga hasn't had a bucket in 7 minutes but they are down 2 because they are getting sent to the line every possession. These refs are completely suffocating tonight.

Hidden advantage from this shitty 2nd half?

Support for quarters is going to go through the roof. Er.... ceiling? Wait. The ceiling IS the roof.

At this point I feel bad for the fans and players of both teams. If VT was playing in this game I'd be apoplectic that both teams are being actively prevented from playing the game in the biggest game of the year. 39 fouls in 32 minutes. Absolutely disgusting

Or.... The one thing that nobody is willing to talk about

Cheating pays

3 national titles in basketball and relevance in football since the largest ever academic scandal broke and no worthwhile penalties doled out and none expected to ever be doled out. Love it or hate it, cheating pays.

Don't let this comment take away from the fact that Arkansas blew a 24 point 2nd half lead in the Belk Bowl.
Don't let the Belk Bowl take away from the fact that Matt Ryan blew a 25 point 2nd half lead in the Super Bowl.

Cheating pays, but only for the privileged, and in the NCAA eyes, UNC is the privileged.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Small private school with no political clout? Oh yeah they'd be hammered

A major state University with political lobbyists and serving connected politicians who can pressure those in power to look the other way like at UNC or (yes) even VT? Don't hold your breath. Only way that differs is something so morally wrong that something knee jerk had to be done like at Penn St.

Don't let this comment take away from the fact that Arkansas blew a 24 point 2nd half lead in the Belk Bowl.
Don't let the Belk Bowl take away from the fact that Matt Ryan blew a 25 point 2nd half lead in the Super Bowl.

or (yes) even VT?

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

I think it's reasonable to say that cheating pays - if you're good at it.

I don't think Wake would be very good at it - not much practice

UNCheat has just shown us that cheating is a simple risk/reward calculation. They benefited from cheating and, even though they were caught, have not been punished in any meaningful way. And now, instead of penalties for their basketball program that could have barred them from this post season, they get to hang another banner in the Dean Smith center.

Hell of a game as in terrible. Refs were beyond awful and the pace of the game made it nearly unwatchable

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

I was strictly excluding the refs. I fully admit they were terrible.

"How the ass pocket will be used, I do not know. Alls I know is, the ass pocket will be used."
- The BoD

Worth noting... Less than a minute to go with UNC up one...

UNC keeps the ball, scores to push it to 3 and that's the game... This is the kind of officiating that drives fans away from the collegiate game in lieu of the NBA. Last night was especially egregious.

It was just bad officiating all around. Pinson didn't touch the ball on that Gonzaga 3 point attempt late in the 2nd half. 2 refs call it UNCs ball, one over rules them and gives the ball to Gonzaga. Instead of taking a look to get the call right Gonzaga keeps it and ends up making a 3.

Don't even get me started on the Joel Berry "foul" and the "make up" flagrant on Karnowski

"Be yourself is about the worst advice you can give some people"

Yeah. That hole flagrant sequence was complete and utter shit.

"Facyson is a baller."

well I'm pretty disappointed the Zags lost. But life goes on

If a tree falls in Scott Stadium does it make a sound?

The real loser here is the state of the modern world. 500 years ago, Karnowsky would have been a powerful Polish Warlord, now he's been reduced to a college basketball player.

I'm sure if he gets his acting chops he could get a role on Game of Thrones (or the spinoff show that's due to start afterwards).

What a horribly sloppy game that was last night. ...On top of the terrible officiating. Just a bad game all around.

I don't blame the players for that sloppy game. Both teams were handcuffed by the refs. Ultimately UNCheat had an advantage as they *get* to practice with ACC refs all year.

I'd rather be at the Rivah.
