OT: Coca Cola 600

Because my friends are much more grown up than me(their wives said they couldn't go), I am going to the Coca Cola 600 down in Charlotte this year by myself. This will be my first trip to Charlotte Motor Speedway, despite it not being very far away. I know there is only a minority of NASCAR fans here, but if anyone is going to be there I would love to come find you.

I am camping in the Rock City Campground, and will be out exploring most of the day Saturday. I am going to steal two tickets to Carowinds from Kings Dominion, so I will have an extra one of those. I really just want to go to ride Fury.

If anyone is going to be there, let me know! I do well by myself, but I like other people.

Posting a shameless appeal for friends because your married friends are lame? Why the hell did I never think of this?

They are pretty upset that I am going without them, actually.

I didn't necessarily mean that they, themselves, are lame. More the situation, e.g. wives won't let them, can't because of kids, etc.

Yes we are...

It's not like I'm the one saying you cant go. There is still time. I need the fine folks of TKP to convince you that you are making the biggest mistake of your life. I mean what is she going to do, divorce you?

I love it when personal conversations play out in the comments section.

Now I want to rewatch this show for the 9th time.

and easy since there are only 6 episodes per season.

I don't think he is the one we need to convince.

There is no way to convince her, but there isn't any reason he couldn't go and then put out the fires later.

It can't all be bad. I still get invited over to their houses from time to time.

If anyone is going to be there, let me know! I do well by myself, but I like other people.

I don't like people. Can you just give me both your tickets?

Sure, but I feel like I should warn you, there may be other people there.

Hmm. Good point.

Can you buy or steal the rest of the tickets then?

The real question is, if you don't like people, why do you need both tickets?

That sounds just like a trick question a people would ask. Are you a people??

I may or may not have multiple persons in my head. So, uh...maybe.

I like the shameless admittance that you are the cool guy in your group, that being said cars driving around in circles and unable to turn both ways is about as lame as it gets

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

Someone's a closet Denny Hamlin fan who's still upset about Sonoma...

Just as long as the Logano flag doesn't start waving. Them fighting words.

I took a picture at Richmond...

If you get to see the wonder that happened at Martinsville again in Charlotte we'll be extra sad you went without us.

If something similar to this happens and yall are not there to see it you can be assured that I will never let you forget it. Just like if one of my friends were to ever mistake Busch Light with Busch Heavy; an unforgivable act. They look completely different.

I feel like I should have put an 88 or 3 on his shirt. And the Kyle Busch is a Douche Bag hat on him.

That is easily the greatest race I've ever witnessed. Haaate Kenseth but he had 60,000 fans there that day lol never seen so many high fives at a race in my life.

Gobble gobble, gobble gobble.

Gordon's last official Martinsville race, Joey Logano Deliberately wrecked by Kenseth, and the whole thing finishing in the near dark which therefore gave them one last push to install lights. Yessir that is right there at my favorite race I have ever attended. I lost my voice yelling in glee when he was put into the wall. What a good day.

The funniest NASCAR radio/scanner conversation I've heard was at Bristol when Dale Jr. was joking with Tony Eury Jr. and commented about not wanting to get "rear-ended" by Jamie McMurray. My dad and I gave each other the Frank Beamer surprised look.

Years ago at Martinsville during a station break someone asked whether or not they installed a Kitchen sink in Danica's car. I think it was right around when she started in the series. I am not going to get into the sexist implications of this, but I thought it was pretty funny. Scanner traffic is great.

My favorite was the time I went to Darlington (HIGHLY recommend, awesome time). During a break the radio guys were joking back and forth and one of them up in the turns said "I seriously don't know how these guys do it...I'd be video gaming around here, hitting every inch of the damn wall in the turns." When it's written out it's really not that funny but in the moment lol

Can we keep this as an open thread throughout the year?

Gobble gobble, gobble gobble.

You are never going to get me to turn away some NASCAR talk.

One thing we did find out after Richmond while listening to the Fox Broadcast on scanners: Halfway through the race the feed stopped broadcasting. We didn't know what happened so we switched to MRN. Later on Twitter Mike Joy was responding so some asking about it and apparently they are starting to encrypt the broadcast for scanners, meaning we will be out of luck. His explanation is to keep that talk private and they are going to work on getting an unencrypted broadcast of just the TV feed, so no side talk. Pretty big bummer.

Another white bronco? The first one didn't go too far.

Been to Charlotte a ton. About 6 Winstons/All Star races, 2-3 fall races and 1 600. Neat place. That's a scary fast track and you need to go down by the fence to just feel them for a couple laps, will change your life.
The 600 is something to behold. I got to go in 2006 before they tore down the seats between 1 and 2 (where me and dad sat) and ultimately the Diamond Terrace seats (frownie face). Was cool as hell and a damn good race to boot. Won't be able to go, but jealous! Where are your seats?

Gobble gobble, gobble gobble.

My seat is as low as it goes right behind start finish. Normally we go high but since I am by myself I decided to do this. I can't wait.

Nice! Get in there early enough to see all the pre-race festivities they do with the military, it's cool as shit (I assume they still do them). And don't tailgate toooo hard, you'll die by the halfway point of the race lol 400 laps is a long ass day/night.

Gobble gobble, gobble gobble.

I plan to watch Indy at camp and then make my way over. In my head now I am saying I will probably take it easy since I am by myself, but once those fumes get in your lungs it is hard to help yourself.

Semi-related note: is anyone going down to Quail Hollow for the PGA Championship?

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

I have considered it, but it is so near all the weekends away for Football (among other things) that I will probably enjoy that one from the comfort of my couch. Still hoping for Masters tickets again for next year.

I have a free ticket from work but I'm not sure I'll use it. I went to the PGA when it was at Kiawah in 2012 and it was a great experience aside from it being hotter than the surface of the sun.

Can we also talk about this classic tshirt Larry the Cable Guy decided to wear as Grand Marshall?

I love when tracks bring in fun grand marshalls, or I guess when sponsors allow them to. Sure, LTCG isn't exactly the superstar he once was, but he's a whole hell of a lot more exciting than "Regional Director of Finance for Geico, Joe Blow!"

Gobble gobble, gobble gobble.

This would have made it even better, but still a funny thought.
The Command Larry the Cable Guy almost gave

Daniel Lawrence Whitney, popularly known as Larry the Cable Guy, had a devilish thought for his duty as grand marshal of the Go Bowling 400 on Saturday at Kansas Speedway.

"I was going to say, 'Gentlemen and Kyle Busch start your engines,' and they said I probably better not do that, they don't want to piss nobody off," Whitney said.

"I'll do a traditional and say 'Start your engines and Git-R-Done.'"

If they had a brain in their head they would've said "yes absolutely do it please and thank you" lol

Gobble gobble, gobble gobble.

I remember when I was a kid at a Truck race at Martinsville, the call was "Gentleman and Jimmy Hensley, start your engines!"

At the time I don't think I got it.

Is this the year that the all star race is finally watchable again? Pretty excited to see how the tire situation works out with the soft tire goodyear is bringing.

Gobble gobble, gobble gobble.

I thought it ended up being pretty confusing actually. I enjoyed watching it but it still seems like just a show. Ready for next week.

I thought the racing was surprisingly good for the first time in a while, or at least mid pack it was. But Nascar and Charlotte are just drawing straws at this point. #AllStarRaceAtMartinsvilleUnderTheLights2018

Gobble gobble, gobble gobble.

The smoke around that topic right now is pretty incredible. Something is happening. If you look at the All Star Race logo, it says Charlotte in it. There is no reason for them to do that if its always gonna be at Charlotte. I think there is a good chance we will be seeing an All Star Race at Martinsville and Bristol in the next few years. Martinsville will be lit if that happens.

Ooooo.......I'd kill to see it at Martinsville. Darlington would be awesome as well. If someone had a few million dollars to burn, The Rock would be badass too. All still very close to Charlotte (sorry Furniture Row Racing).

Gobble gobble, gobble gobble.

Yeah we've done a ton of work for the track over the years, went and looked at some work over there yesterday actually. Did the generator pad for the lights...so I've been pretty torqued since like October. Praying the ODU game is around 72-0 at the half so I don't feel too bad for leaving early for the late model race (being held that night...and thank the lord they didn't schedule it the next weekend).

Gobble gobble, gobble gobble.

Have fun! Where ya camping at?

Gobble gobble, gobble gobble.

Rock city. I have Clemson neighbors. TKP flag is up and this place is starting to get lit.

Short report is I will definitely be going again. I have great pictures. I also went to the hall of fame and enjoyed the hell out of myself.

I will add this just because I love the Color Guard Ceremony there. Plus it shows off how close I was to this stuff.
