OT: Xbox One X

So who's got a preorder on the way for Tuesday? Anyone holding out for a bundle deal on Black Friday? I was waiting to see if there were going to be any good trade in offers for the X1S since I have two but they were all garbage. I think I'll wait for Black Friday in hopes of landing an extra game or controller. Part of me regrets not preordering a project scorpio edition.

The Xbox One X Enhanced list looks great so far considering the two games I mainly play are already confirmed for 4K @ 60FPS (FIFA 18 and Titanfall 2). Can't freaking wait.

I was considering trading in my xbox one towards an X if I came across a decent deal.

I've got one on the way

While I understand the need for a faster and more powerful machine, it's still just an Xbox one. I might be in the minority but I haven't noticed too much of need to upgrade from my Xbox one S, especially for $500.

Now, I may be singing a different tune come December with the newer games coming out this month. They may need to extra power and resolution, but all my current games have been great with no issue.

I think Microsoft recognizes that, which is why they have the one s and one x now and will support both instead of X1X becoming a new generation.

Player unknown battlegrounds comes to the xbone on 12/12. If you like that type of game download Fortnite the battle royale version is free to play and its pretty entertaining.

This is by far the best game of the year, I'm excited for PUBG release on console.

“THE CUP IS GOING NOWHERE MIKEY!!! THEY DID IT SOMEHOW!!”

Preordered a Scorpio Edition. Can't wait. Now I just wish I had more time for gaming. Cant decide if I wanna play through my backlog of games first or pick up Battlefront 2 or AC: Origins first.

Honestly, it'll probably just be a really nice 4K blueray player for the majority of the time. But if they make Halo:MCC optimized for the X then it'll be more than worth it for me.

It was a catch!

If I made a funny comment I probably stole it from Reddit.

So in a similar sense, I've been tempted to upgrade my PS4 to the Pro. I think what I'll do instead is buy a Switch when I have the money available for it. Nintendo is really knocking it out of the park with some of these games it seems, and it's more worth it to me to play those than to have my Playstation performing better.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

Keep an eye on gamestop for trade-up deals. They ran one a while ago that gave $180 for the original PS4 (more if you were a powerup rewards member I believe). I traded mine in at that point because I didn't think it would ever go up over time but I saw the same deal a month or two ago. I upgraded mine because my PS4 sounded like a jet plane when you played any games on it and I knew that it was only a matter of time before it overheated.

I need a Switch. Maybe they'll give me $180 for a Wii U lolol.

The Switch really is awesome. When Skyrim is finally released for the Switch I think it will take it to the next level of awesome, but it does still lack the first person shooters that other consoles have. If you do end up getting the Switch I highly recommend getting a Pro controller as well

If you're like me and burnt out of FPS's around Call of Duty 2 or Battlefield Vietnam, the Switch is pretty much the ideal system. It's early (only had it a couple weeks) but BOTW may be one of the best games ever made

As the thread has been revived, I figured I'd chime in again. Did get my Switch. BOTW and Odyssey are two of the best games I've played in years (and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, as well, if you're a JRPG fan).

Play my Switch probably 85% in handheld mode and love it. I'm still in a bit of a honeymoon phase with it (though it has been 4 months), but between the quality games available there and the downfall of Destiny, my PS4 has been a Netflix machine since Christmas.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

God of War comes out this Friday only for the PS4, going to play it right after work to see if it's just as good or better than the original trilogy for PS2/PS3. That should enough to dust off the PS4 this month.
Right now waiting for October when they continue Xenoblade 2's story since I finished it a couple months ago and whenever the new Smash Bros. game comes out for the Switch.

God of War does look amazing. Probably going to give it some time and wait on a sale though. I've also been tempted by Monster Hunter World. But I have such a backlog on the Switch already with finishing BOTW, the XC2 DLCs/New Game +, and Dragon Quest Builders that I'm in no rush to buy another game yet.

Far Cry 5 is pretty fun

I pre-ordered my scorpio edition but I'm holding off until black friday to buy (more) games for it. I read that Microsoft is anticipating stock shortages on the X around the holidays but I also read that about the Switch and I see those every time I go to Best Buy/Target.

WELP just caved and preordered out of this last batch of Project Scorpio editions target had. So who wants to buy a 2TB X1S?

I just upgraded from a 40" 1080P to a 65" 4k so I've been toying with going from the og xboxone to the X. Would you say the upgrade is noticeable?

Recruit Prosim

Oh my goodness yes. We have a 65" Samsung KS8000 in the living room (spectacular TV) with the X hooked up to it then a 47" LG 1080P in the bedroom hooked up to an S (yes we have two xboxes). Sometimes I'll play a game of FIFA before bed or something and the difference in quality is insane. Even on none X1X enhanced games there's a noticeable difference (I'm thinking of Rocket League specifically). I totally recommend it, especially if you have an HDR set.

I've been tempted a few times but I'll stick with my PC and original XBO. The latter hardly gets turned on as is. The Switch really became my main console pretty fast for anything that isn't online MP.

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

I am mostly a keyboard/mouse fan so most of my gaming happens on the PC. I have a launch day XB1, which is used as a media center (and does a great job in that role). I won't be upgrading the XB until I get a 4k TV, in my opinion, there isn't enough content out there to justify that upgrade yet.

I know I'm responding to a 10-month-old comment, but since this thread just got revived I'm reading through it.

Microsoft announced earlier this week that they are enabling keyboard/mouse support, and developers will soon be able to enable it in their games if they so desire.

Isn't the whole point of a console that you don't have to worry about performance issues and your hardware deprecating (other than the every ~5 year console upgrade)? Seems a little ridiculous to offer better "performance", either the games work or they don't.

The games all work on every xbox console.

yeah i get that, but now there's this new console that plays the same games, except slightly better somehow. so if someone already has an xbox 1, why would they upgrade the play the same games they've been playing?

To do it in 4k/60fps/HDR. Think of the X1X as the pro version of the xbox one.

This right here. If you're not a computer gamer and you want your games to look as good as PC versions this is as close as you can get.

It's not about being better, it's the money they have in those kits. Hell there are plenty of console gamers better. But we all have a fairly level playing field. A PC gamer can buy better equipment that makes them better.

I just don't know how Fortnite and PUBG will work in Esports because they are Battle Royale games where you only get one life that can take a couple hours for one round. Are they going to have multiple rounds/matches and will it be a full server of 100 players or a small server of about 20 players with how big the maps are.
Overwatch, TF2, Heroes of the Storm, DOTA 2, Halo, and Call of Duty works well because they either have objectives or team death match that last about 10 minutes per match (20-30 minutes for HOTS and DOTA 2) in a best of 3.

Only played Fortnite maybe a couple times (did not like the building aspect in a Battle Royale game it just felt off to me, not saying it's a bad game just didn't get into it as much as PUBG) so I might have exaggerated how long the matches are and thought they are as long as PUBG. Though I still wonder how they are going make it work in Esports and how the matches will be run.

Now that I've wrapped up the CFP(r), I have so much more free time vs. the last year or so. Been playing a lot more Xbox.

I just took the bait and signed up for the Game Pass for $1 for the first 30 days. Been playing Sea of Thieves. I could see it running out of steam pretty quickly as there just frankly isn't a ton to do in the game right now, but having a blast for a buck and the game is gorgeous.

Its one where without friends to play it with it gets super old super quick but when you have a good group it can be entertaining and truly unique as well its very good looking as well.

Thread is revived again? Let me take this opportunity to urge people to get Destiny 2 for free on PSN. The recent sandbox changes have put the franchise back where it needed to be, and if you like the gameplay, Forsaken has really upped the ante as far as content goes. I'm sucked back into Destiny again and I love it.

Now we wait to see if they cycle back the whole thing again and ruin the good things they've done.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

It's only "free" for PS+ subscribers, right? I mean, I am one, so I now have it, just wondering.

I bought the first one at launch and lost interest after about 3 hours, and it got lost in the backlog by the time the DLC came out and apparently made it decent. Is the second one actually worth my time? And should I assume there isn't any split-screen, so my wife couldn't join in on the fun (actually it's her PS4 in the first place haha)

Correct on the PS+.

D2, even as a vanilla game before the sandbox changes and not speaking to the weird design changes they made in the beginning of the sequel, has always had more compelling stories than D1 ever did. So I'd say it's worth a free download if you have the space.

Also correct, no split screen.

Has anybody checked out the re-issue of Shenmue I/II?

Danny Coale Caught That Ball!!!

Glad this thread got revived. My wife asks me every other night who Hokie Fireman is because he keeps playing Fortnite and a giant orange announcement pops up while she is streaming Netflix.

I've never played Fortnite, I must admit. I did sign up for Game Pass for $2 for 2 month, and I am addicted to Rise of the Tomb Raider at the moment. Excellent game

My backlog is much too big for me to even consider paying for a service like Game Pass or PS Now. I bought The Last of Us years ago for $10 and still haven't touched it, and that's only one example of probably dozens (though most are through Steam).

Third endorsement! My favorite game. Got Shadow for my cake day, waiting for the oldest daughter to finish before I start it (grrr).

Wait, what?

I think I'm about ready to pick up the new tomb raider now that I've finished Spider-Man. Should hold me over until RDR2 and Fall Out 76.

Red Dead Redemption 2 should be pretty sweet. I'm definitely going to check it out.

Yeah, it looks amazing

Just saw it's file size is gonna be 105gb on launch day hoooowweeee that's gonna be huge, got me thinking if I'd ever played a game that big before

If you pre-order digitally, they've been allowing early downloading/installing that way you're ready to play at launch.

Mine is all set up and ready to go. Can't wait.

Made my preorder for Red Dead Redemption 2 tonight. Havnt bought a game in awhile, but told my wife I was buying this one way back when I passed the CFP.

Can't wait to play Thursday night after the Hokies beat GT

Digital or physical?

Digital. Now it's just teasing me there on my home screen. But it unlocks at 9pm AZ time Thursday.

Yeah, I'll pretty much finish watching the tech game then roll over to playing RDR2...which is the start of my 3 day weekend. Talk about perfection.

Every early review I've seen said the game is ridiculously good.

I find RDR to be probably my favorite game of all time. I was a little fearful that nostalgia was creeping in a bit when I made the buy, but looking forward to this one more than ever now

Been loving AC Odyssey on my one X it plays very well and looks great but the story and all is fantastic. Waiting on red dead to enjoy Fallout 76 with all my friends at launch which looks like its gonna be a blast as a huge fallout nerd.

I've heard AC Odyssey is really good from some friends but haven't played any AC after the AC Unit debacle. Fallout 76 is a maybe depending on if my friends get it.
I just got Blops IIII and waiting for the new Total War Warhammer DLC The Vampire Coasts (Zombie Pirates, one of the neglected factions GW kind of forgotten they created in Warhammer Fantasy) to be released so tight on money for now. Also trying to decide if I want to get SC VI.

Definitely get God of War and Spiderman, personally think that God of War is Hame of the Year this year unless something else beats it (I know AC Odyssey can be up there just haven't played it yet).
It takes a long time for Nintendo games to come down in price, I don't know if it's a cultural thing or just that Nintendo games keep selling well even long after release dates that lowering prices won't be beneficial.

If you say streaming as in Hulu and Netflix I think the Switch should be fine and they have the Nintendo Labo for the Switch either out now or soon.

So I have a few kids all 7 and under and they all "play" Fortnite on Xbox. We also have iPads (our old ones) and leappads they use to play all kinds of games and educational programs especially in the car or at dinner if we just want them to sit still for a bit while we eat something out.

For me, consoles offer good (not as good, I get that) performance for a low price point, for 5 ish years or so, and the onus is on the game companies to make their product work on those systems.

PCs are more expensive and it then can become your responsibility to make an upgrade if the latest and greatest games are more demanding than your hardware can handle. The performance boosts just aren't worth that to me, though I could see how it would be for others.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

Yeah. This is, essentially, it. I'm paying for the convenience.

This. I love deep strategy and RPG experiences on PC. And honestly they arnt even that necessary anymore for that. I have Civilization VI and all the Black Isle games (Baldur's Gate 1&2, Ivewind Dale, Planescape Torment, etc) on my iPad and they play like a dream.

But there is something to be said for being able to purchase a console game and know it's going to work when you load it the first time and will continue to work for years with no system issues.

I get this, but at the same time I have 1 computer. I built it and it does everything. When you break down Laptop + Console its not as affordable as having 1 that does both. Just imo. Also, games on PC are generally cheaper than on console.

ME Class of '16
Facts don't care about your feelings

I have nothing against PC. I just prefer to game from my couch. My Xbox is my entertainment hub. I have YouTube TV, and a massive physical media collection. It has Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. I can literally do everything from it (the 4K UHD media playback is a big plus for me as well). Now that Amazon has partnered with Microsoft to add Alexa support I'm not sure I'll ever be able to leave the Xbox eco system.

tldr; use what works for you.

On a side note: it may be time for a smarthome off topic thread on here. I'd be curious to know who on here has embraced the smarthome world.

My wife is just thrilled because she can control the Roomba through our Google Home. It also handles all of the LED lights in our main kitchen/living/dining room area, and has some great games to entertain the kids when we are getting chores and such done on the weekends. She runs a digital agency that is working on voice capabilities with some large organizations, so its exciting to see what the smart home functionality will be in 6-12 months, let alone a couple years from now.

As for Xbox, I'm with you I am pretty much locked into the platform for the foreseeable future. I use it to consume media much more than my DirectTV service. Between Netflix, Amazon, Starz, YouTube, our family is almost always watching one of those streaming.

I really just use mine for lights right now. I want to get into some door locks, thermostats, security etc., but we're planning to move in April or May. So we aren't investing into stuff too much. We have our kitchen lights, but they are the Philips Hue A19 and they are too warm for my liking. Trying to find a good bulb that is cooler without having to pay for the color changing crap. It's not cheap. We have one echo and one echo plus (only a two bed house) and we are really enjoying it, especially the multi-room audio.

It's not gonna be just me but part of playing on PC is building your own custom rig that's what it's about for me. I love piecing a system together but by bit it can be pricier but the satisfaction of hitting 4k and a million frames per second on a beautiful game is nice. I'm working on setting up a liquid cooled system to make it look even cooler. Building computers is like any bad hobby it can kill your wallet but it's so much fun.

I started playing last night right at 9pm, and forced myself to turn it off around 1:30am.

The game is incredibly good. If you liked RDR, don't wait, just get the thing and enjoy yourself. I played GTA 5 plenty, but it never once grabbed me like the first hour of this game did. Granted, I only play a select few games, but this may be the one that knocks Witcher 3 out of the top spot for me personally.

It's probably because I've been playing a fuck ton of Spider-Man recently, but good Lord - it feels like my dude is moving in slow motion while wearing cement boots.

I just pre-ordered Kingdom Hearts 3 for my Xbox-One.

I rarely play video games now a day with a 3 year old and a 1 year old at home. Our Xbox-One is mostly our entertainment center. I buy one (maybe two) games a year, mostly from nostalgia. This past year, my one game was Southpark the Fractured But Whole because i'm a big fan of the series and it's basically like playing in one very long episode.

With regards to KH3, I have great memories of playing KH1 and KH2 for PS2 when I was in college and it's crazy it's been this long for KH3 to come out. I know there are many other games in the series that came out for hand-held consoles (I remember playing 358/2) that help piece together the super convoluted story line.

Any KH3 fans out there?

Ohh yeah. Looking forward to #3 for sure. Have super fond memories of playing #1 in particular.

Danny Coale Caught That Ball!!!

Loved the first one, the second one I don't really remember much about anymore... Not sure how I feel about the third. The story is so fucking convoluted.

I hate their roll out: prequels, sequels, remixes, several different gaming platforms... And literally years between console games. It's all just nonsense. They had the potential to be great.

I don't think I ever actually finished the second one now that I sit here thinking about it. Agree that the overall story has definitely gotten convoluted. So many random installments have been hard to keep up with. Need a flow chart to remember what goes where.

Danny Coale Caught That Ball!!!

Since it's been about 12 years since I played it... I ended up watching a video on YouTube that explains the whole timeline and where each of the seven installments falls. It helped tremendously and got me excited about it again (which in turn led me to pre-ordering the damn thing).

It sucks that even though Disney has purchased Marvel and Star Wars, there's still licensing issues that prevent them from using it in the games.

That's the problem with Square Enix in and most JRPGs in general story wise while Square Enix had games in development hell for awhile.
SE was having problems when they were making FF XV they had problems with their engine (which affected KH development) and even FF VII Remastered changed engines about three times.

Anybody in on Battlefield V, and if so your thoughts?

Not sure if you want advice on whether or not to purchase the game or thoughts about the game, so I'll include both.

The good:
The game itself looks great. It plays great. The time to kill is down in this game so it should theoretically be easier to kill people (compared to previous Battlefields, if you played them). The flipside is that you also die really easily, so it takes some work to go on kill streaks. Vehicles aren't a giant part of this game (at least for now, I think the next update is supposed to add vehicle focused maps). In terms of Battlefield launches, this one has gone the smoothest since BF3. I think it's incredibly fun to play, but...

The bad:
There's not much content. Depending on if you play conquest vs operations (finding matches in the smaller game modes can leave you in lobbies that aren't full), the maps feel kind of dull. There's a lot of empty space in these maps if you play conquest, which means you typically end up staying at one point the whole time to see action or you find yourself running a lot between points if you're capturing objectives. In operations, instead of jumping from one map to the next (like in BF1), you stay on the same map the whole time and work your way through it during the 3 days (each day occurs on one part of the map-with some overlap). This means if you don't like a map you might as well find a new server because you're stuck there. I will say there are some maps that have good 3rd days (ie that part of the map is fun to play in), but overall you find yourself just dragging through the bad parts. The operations also don't really make any sense because one team "wins" each day (ie if the defenders hold the attackers on day 1, you "win") and there are 3 days, but it's not a best 2 out of 3. The only day that matters is day 3, regardless of what happens on days 1 and 2, so really there's no point in trying the first two days because the third day determines if you "win" the operation or not. It also takes no time at all to reach max rank (I reached it in the first week the game was out), which removes something to work towards while you're playing. The classes do take a while to rank up to max rank (meaning some weapons are locked behind your class rank ie assault or recon until you get enough points with that class). There are also new events that have weekly assignments that you can work on to unlock new outfits or even weapons. The problem with those is that the assignments don't track very well (you do what the assignment asks and for some reason it just doesn't count sometimes).

So should you buy it?
Not now. The servers are already not super populated (on Xbox at least), it is sometimes hard to find games on the smaller game modes (which are actually a lot of fun), and there's not much content releasing. Right now the game is in between "events" which give you those weekly assignments so the first event ended this past weekend and the next one doesn't begin until the 16th I believe. I have a feeling the battle royale mode will bring new people to the game, and people that stopped playing back, but that's not scheduled to release until March or so. I would say pick it up around that time if you're interested and hopefully by that point there will be more content and you'll get more for your money.

Disclaimer: I love battlefield and buy every one, so yes I think I got my money's worth of this game, but I'm having a hard time coming up with reasons to keep playing it. As fun as the game is, it gets pretty repetitive and there's not enough new content or challenges to keep me coming back.

If you're on xbox and want to play I'm always looking for other people to squad up with, just let me know.

This is a pretty spot on write up. Straight up conquest maps are soooo big I felt like I was running the whole match. I'm usually an objectives type player anyway so I do enjoy Operations.

I know "EA Bad" and everything, but I have to say everything coming out about Anthem has me very intrigued. Looks like it could be really good if EA doesn't kill it.

But it's Kingdom Hearts month everybody!

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

See being a major destiny geek I should be loving the thought of anthem but I'm scared of what ea will do with it regarding content and transactions and what not but I'm remaining open eyed to see how it goes. Personally I'm still into destiny2 and loving it so dunno if I'll need to get a similar feeling game.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

There are two major things that I'm holding out for Anthem on, and really hope it can pull me away from Destiny because of them:

1) NO PvP. Destiny since it's creation has struggled with balance due to using the same weapons and abilities in PvE and PvP modes, and more often than not, things are nerfed/ruined in PvE for the benefit of some pipe dream of a competitive (eSports esque) PvP scene.

2) 4 players for all activities, and matchmaking for everything. My group of 6 (at best) in Destiny has all but disbanded and I only have 2-3 people max to play with at the best of times.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

My biggest gripe with destiny was the handling of pvp balancing I always wished they would balance separately. Absolutely with you on the player group sizes always thought it was weird to make the raids 6 and everything else 4 I always wish they'd open more activities to more players

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I always wished they would balance separately

Yeah, I hated this too. Because it literally made no sense when they nerfed guns in story mode for problems that were in PvP, and vice versa.

Fireteam size really screws me over, I have 3 friends, so 3 person fireteams suck. While gambit is fun, straight PvP sucks, having to do PvP tasks to get items sucks. It takes away from what i feel is the core game and there are tons of other games you can PvP in (we play Halo). There are numerous other issues that I have put up with and still play, but I am losing my interest. The grid is better now but it still sucks that i get crappy lower level items from the "powerful gear" all the time. Still not sure how the Black Armory is going to turn out as i haven't had a lot of time to play lately.

I would love for Anthem to be better, but it's EA so its going to suck. Maybe Division 2 can give me something to play. Hopefully they learned lessons from the first one and don't regress like Destiny 2 did.

To be honest, I haven't played Destiny since the Iron whatever DLC release in the first game. I haven't touched 2 yet. Somewhere along the line I just completely lost interest. But some of my fondest memories of online gaming are completing raids with a good group of friends and finally getting that much anticipated and needed piece of loot with the perfect roll.

Yeah, well they took the item modifiers out of Destiny 2 for the first year and then put them back in for the year 2 expansion. You didn't miss much.

Honestly D2 is pretty fun right now, but since I can't reliably raid and PvP is a cesspool and a waste of time, I'm ready for a change of pace.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

I haven't done a d2 raid. PvP sucks, and really I have the whisper worm left and black armory. Also I hate hand cannons and the are so OP. I hate that.

I love hand cannons but I'm not going to grind through OP BS in crucible to get the meta ones.

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

I can't stand the matchmaking in PVP currently, or even Gambit. It's almost like you have to be a team in order to not get obliterated because as a solo player, you get on a team with other solo players, but face a team with all their communication and everything.

Black Armory is fun enough. Still think Anthem is gonna take me away. My 4 person group will fit it well. I'm not going to immediately dismiss it due to EA until I see the reviews.

(also not as if Ubisoft is much better than EA as far as your wish for Division 2 goes.)

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

4 people in a group is most likely what sells me about anthem.

Anthem looked glorious in the first trailer, but my interest kind of wanted during their E3 showing last year. I'm gonna wait a bit after release and see what the game is really all about before deciding if I'll purchase it or not.

Also, Kingdom Hearts month?! Psh.... RESIDENT EVIL 2 REMAKE MONTH YALL!!! ...with a dash of Kingdom Heart 3 on the tail end. lol.

can anyone point me to good modern PC games for single player mode? I could never learn the game controllers. Last good game I played was Half-Life 2 and some battlefield stuff. Looks like BF5 is multi player (mostly).

Some of my favorites:

If you have a somewhat high end custom PC build:

  1. The Witcher III
  2. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
  3. Kerbal Space Program (I think most engineers would enjoy this)
  4. Cities: Skylines (Takes the Sim City games to the next level)
  5. Civilization V

If your computer is a potato:

  1. Factorio (My favorite indie game ever made. This game is like crack. You have been warned)
  2. Rimworld (Scratches the same type of itch as Factorio)
  3. Stardew Valley (Farming rpg. One of my favorite indie games)
  4. Terraria (Very addicting platformer)
  5. Don't Starve (Survival game)

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

I second Factorio. Super fun game to play solo or grab a few buddies and go crazy.

"It's a miracle in Blacksburg, TYROD DID IT MIKEY, TYROD DID IT!"

Most stuff is multiplayer based but there are still some amazing PC games out there.

Red dead, basically Yee Yee version of GTA where you get to be Clint Eastwood and chose to be a bad man or a really bad man.

Witcher( all of them). Fantastic series about Geralt a bad ass monster Hunter. Midevil themed and a fantasy world.

Monster Hunter. It's alot of fun does require online play but it's alot of fun with lots to do if you enjoy western culture gameplay.

Borderlands series. So much fun for first person shooter with an amazing storyline and can be down right hilarious. Amazingly fun shoot n loot rpg.

Skyrim, what more can I say it's well worth it now especially with all the amazing fan made mods to make the game even better it's an amazing single player rpg fantasy game. That said so are all the elder scrolls games.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Some good modern PC games I have/found are:

1. Total War: Warhammer
2. Tales of Bersaria
3. Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 4 (2 is only PSP and 3 is Japan only).
4. DOOM
5. Roller Coaster Tycoon
6. Undertale

That's the ones I have for singleplayer PC, I do mostly mulitplayer on PC (TF2, Overwatch, Black Ops 4).

Some good ones already mentioned that I have played (Skyrim, Witcher series). Some others to direct your attention at:

Games I have played
- Bioshock (all of them)
- Starcraft 2 (all of the campaigns)
- Subnautica - this one in particular has been ridiculously addicting

Games on the to-be-played list:
- Dead Cells
- Hollow Knight
- Oxenfree

and if you like adventure games, take a look at all the remastered Lucas Arts games like Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, the Monkey Island series, and Grim Fandango

Late to the party on this comment, but Subnautica is an amazing game. It has some performance issues on XBOX 1 that have been ironed out over time, but the setting and mechanics are a lot of fun.

I was never big into Minecraft and the like, but for whatever reasons Subnautica really hooked me. I think there is just enough story and mystery to make the already fun parts even better.

You'll be happy to hear there is another one coming out set on a planet covered in ice with an ocean beneath.

Subnautica is so much fun the tension when going somewhere you might not make it is so good only issue I had was performance but that was when it first came out its much better now. Difference with minecraft is I only play minecraft when I've got others to play with otherwise its lame o but with a god group can be much more fun.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Turning in the dark to find a leviathan bearing down on you made for some generally frightening moments, certainly scarier than games that are actually billed as "horror". It captured that innate fear of being in open ocean and not know what is swimming in the depths below you so well.

Or watching those last few seconds of oxygen tick down as you frantically race to the surface or try to get some new batteries in are as tense as it gets. It's funny because the game starts pretty relaxing as you explore the shallows which are gorgeous and calming.

Yup it perfectly gets ya cause when it starts out all pretty and easy its fun and then your addicted then you find out you gotta venture off the shelf into the kelp forests and then it goes horror fast. Fuck the shark like dudes in the kelp forests they used to scare the jeebes out of me.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I've had my share of "run away" and "holy S&^T!" moments while playing the game, but nothing has matched the gut-wrenching feeling i got when i ventured way out in my 1st cyclops (before i realized I was over the cliff) and then got attacked by 3 ghost leviathans.... i keep the beacon for that lost ship on all the time as a reminder to not be stupid and always go out prepared for the worst.

Anyone else play the Anthem demo this weekend?

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

You mean COULD anyone else play the Anthem demo this weekend?

"Still loading..."

None of my friends group got on friday night but Saturday on we all had zero problems getting on and playing I had a good time playing it once I got used to playing vertically not horizontally.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I had the infinite load problem every time entering and exiting expeditions. It meant any gear I got, I didn't get to keep. I even got dropped from the "Stronghold" both times I played it. I stopped trying after Saturday because they didn't say they would be able to fix infinite load before the weekend was over.

I played it starting late on Saturday evening. Had minor issues compared to most. Loading froze and had to quit then re-start the whole demo. Went smooth after that.

I ended up really enjoying it and will likely buy it on release day.

Will be jumping back in this weekend. Feel free to add me (anyone on TKP), gt: STiHokie.

Also, I play a lot of World of Tanks. If anyone wants to platoon up, just send a message. Have all tiers (and types) and working on various grinds.

I got a XBOS for Christmas, and I'll be honest... I am just enjoying the fact I can play a hell of a lot of older titles from the 360. I'm all over the 3 Dead Space games, as well as having queued up the Ghostbusters video game in prep for next year's movie.

"I regret nothing. The end." - Ron Swanson

We don't claim the third Dead Space game...

Its not to the quality of the first 2, but it continues the story. I didn't much like the weapon creator but I likes a lot of the new mechanics they added. I'm disappointed they mothballed the entire franchise after this one. Even though Visceral is gone, I'm hopeful one day that it can be resurrected and continued using the same methodology (no cutscenes, focus everything on the atmosphere to scare you and not the action itself, etc) as the first.

"I regret nothing. The end." - Ron Swanson

Is anyone else actually enjoying the new Call of Duty? I've enjoyed this one the most since probably BO2.

"Can't argue with that logic" - Rick Sanchez

Raise your hand if you are picking up kingdom hearts 3 today

Edit: after playing for several hours yesterday, here are my initial reactions spoiler free

1: way too many cutscenes. Seriously I have unlocked 4 worlds thus far and it feels like the game has been 90% cutscene. Most of these are referencing stuff that happened in the previous games. Luckily you can skip them by pausing and hitting skip scene, but for now I'll keep watching because it's my first play through.

2: the actual gameplay is really fun when are in the 10% of the game that is actual play.

3: the new attraction features are awesome.

4: I can't stand Donald's and Goofy's voice. Unfortunately you are stuck with these two characters for the game.

5: they brought back the gummi ship, but it's not as annoying as it used to be. It has a more open world feel.

Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies

I don't understand why they decided to release on a Tuesday. Because now I'm sitting at work just wanting to go home and play for the last two days and I know tomorrow will be exactly the same. These releases should be Thursday's at midnight so we can just pick up Friday on the way home from work and play all weekend then maybe call in sick Monday.

Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies

There are a couple reasons why Video Games release on Tuesdays, here is a youtube video that can explain it better than I can: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYT7Zzv_7Js. There was an article I read (wish I can find it again, if I do will try to post here) that gives the same explanation also. Though lately release dates have been trending to Fridays because games can be bought and downloaded online.

This is a serious question on your first comment about long cut scenes and not to being mean; is this your first last generation/current generation JRPG game?

I'm slowly getting through it (a 4 and 2 year old at home will do that to ya) and in loving it. Agree with the cut scenes but I actually enjoy them.
