Haha, my thoughts exactly.

You mean you don't put the kiddos to bed at 11am for a noon kickoff?

My kid has figured out how to walk over to the TV and turn it on and off. A night game would be fantastic.

That's a great skill for when you can't find the remote!

Let's Go

HOKIES

Baby gates around the TV, bruh.

Buy this.

I really needed that noon kick.

I did, too. As it stands, the Pittsburgh game is the only one my mom will be attending this year...

... and they're HER season tickets.

I bet we get a Logano win on Sunday now...

I got so pissed yesterday when he knocked Ryan Blaney out of the chase....

I was too. Poor kid is going to get a W really soon.

The campground behind the track. It is quite a bit more fun than can be described. Everyone is there for the same reason: To have a good time and watch Joey Logano lose.

Me and a couple friends would go over at like 8 or 9 pm with a case of beer and just walk around and party with whoever wanted to. They got tired of doing it :(

"I'm a Miller Lite guy, always have been, since I was 8." -John Daly

You have at least 4 or 5 friends there waiting if you decide to do it again. The one Sunday night after Dale Jr won may be the craziest array of people having fun that I have ever seen. It was alot like Endor after the Death Star was destroyed.

Speaking of the vehicles getting stuck, were you around when the tractor trailer ran off the campground road near the woods? This was a couple years ago. Hilarious.

"I'm a Miller Lite guy, always have been, since I was 8." -John Daly

I don't remember that, but the first time we stayed there a car in the parking lot below tried to go around my truck of all the vehicles down there. Problem was my truck was parked right next to the creek, and the guy rolled right in and upside down. We were sitting up on the hill wondering what all the emergency light fuss was, and went down to investigate. I probably have pictures of that somewhere too. The guy was fine by the way, if not really drunk.

Thank you, picture fairy.

Yeah no idea what that dude was thinking. Just a big crowd of drunks sitting there laughing and trying to rig it out. Someone behind me in the crowd "man...he ain't ever gonna get out." I spun around "you gotta believe man!"

Come on over, we're about half way up the hill kind of in the middle of the field. I'm sure Nick will bring the TKP flag and we'll fly it (also that beacon light).

Saturday night clearly won't happen, but mayyybe friday night. And that picture is amazing lolol

Oh hell yeah. I was afraid I was gonna have to miss both nights of Lotus at the National if it was a nooner

We are in ummm.....reorganization mode. This is not what we expected and now we aren't sure what we are doing.

You get more time to tailgate I don't see the problem

They were/are planning on going to the Martinsville race. It is Sunday at 3:00 pm.

Well we are camping there from Wednesday on. We were planning on making a day trip up for the Tailgate and then heading back right afterwards. Tech tailgates are great but they are nothing compared to the camping environment for a NASCAR race.

You are correct, I have never seen two drunk people, one of them being a co-worker, fall out of a portable toilet, butt naked after banging in said toilet, during a VT tailgate. However, I have seen this at a NASCAR tailgate...

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

I'm pretty sure the same was true in America up until the car replaced the horse. I was thinking that's why it was commonplace to see men cross their legs in the manner that we think of as feminine today. You didn't want to reveal the horse poop on the bottom of your shoe to your company.

On the subject, as a 5* resort golf-course maintenance guy, I was forced to stay home after foot injury because I would have needed to prop it up in the gator...insulting untold numbers of Arab guests who like to hunt pheasant and play golf...

“I remember Lee Corso's car didn't get out of the parking lot.” -cFB

Nothing in this post should be construed as political, in either direction.

His ability to duck both the shoes is, as mentioned, catlike. I also find it really impressive and interesting that he just stands there and keeps looking over the podium between shoes and after the second shoe. I guess that's just not the reaction I would expect.

I'm going to reiterate, nothing in this post should be construed as political.

I've been drinking.

The point also being, that I would rather sit outside of the camper in a field and watch the other good games that are on that night. Having the satisfaction of knowing that I got to watch our game in full and make it back down the hill to Martinsville. They are ruining the perfect plan...

Silver lining(kinda?): You'll have less Route 8 traffic at night.

Any requests for what I smoke this time?

Have you ever tried pastrami? Or hit the easy button with turkey legs. Smoked fish salad apps, or easy button wings. Spice rubbed pear halves for dessert.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Haven't done pastrami yet but I want to. For Delaware and ODU, I did turkey legs for everybody. Clemson was 4 racks of ribs and a whole chicken. Actually, I hope the Pitt game is 3:30 or later. Since it is the weekend before Thanksgiving, I will smoke a whole turkey and we can have a mini Thanksgiving dinner right at the tailgate.

Here we go! Nothing says camaraderie like devouring your delicious team mascot before a game.

Is this the first prime time game on the ACC Network? Normally it's only noon games with a rarity of 3:30 games.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

As far as I can tell, the Raycom ACC Network has only had noon (or 12:20 or 12:30) games. If they've had a 3:30 game, it was prior to the current set up. Occassionally, they have done a split broadcast with two noon games.

The FSU game in week 2 was supposed to be primetime, but got moved and then cancelled.

I see that Louisville at WF is the noon ACCN game. I wonder if Raycom really has two games, or someone is using the wrong term. If it is a Raycom broadcast, odds are, it's going to be mostly on CW affiliates or digital subchannels.

They have had some "ACC Network" games on the CSN channels the past few weeks. This past week Louisville-BC was the ACC Network game of the week on the CW (in Richmond), but NC State-Pitt and UVA-UNC were ACC Network games that were on CSN at Noon, and 3:30pm respectively. Hopefully we'll get the regional network treatment, and no just Watch ESPN.

I was able to watch both the Pitt-NC State and UVA-UNC games on dish network. It was on one of the regional sports channels, CSN Midatlantic now called NBC Sports Washington.

I will always be CSN to me.

Until I forget that's what it used to be called, and start calling it NBC Sports Washington.

I'm getting a little salty that one of my four years as a student got to be 2013 season with zero night games

I attended from 2012-2016. That's easily our worst 4 year stretch in football and basketball in the last ~25 years.

"For those who have passed, for those to come, reach for excellence."

Me too buddy. God, what a terrible time to be a football fan. At least buzzketball get some fun games our senior year and the start of 2012 basketball was incredible (OSU game was the best environment I have ever been apart of at a VT sporting event). But for the most part the basketball was garbage.

Chanting at Marcus Smart

I believe it was actually Nash that got the "You're a pussy" chant the entire game. Erick Green was a treat that season. That place was boomin' and it was incredible. It kinda makes you wonder what it would be like to be a basketball school because personally I don't think football atmospheres can compete with basketball stadium atmospheres when it is rocking.

At the rate Buzz is recruiting we may become a basketball school (that is also good at football) sooner than you think.

It was a catch!

If I made a funny comment I probably stole it from Reddit.

Eh, its a culture thing. VT won't ever be a basketball school. At most it could be a football school with a good basketball team which is what Buzz seems to be accomplishing.

Are you good at _____? Then you are a _____ school.

If we rolled off a Final Four year and backed that up by being ranked Top 10 off and on over the next 5 years or so, then yeah, we'll be a basketball school very quickly.

"Some days you’re a horse and some days you’re a horse’s ass. I’ve been a horse’s ass for a little while." - Roy Halladay

Nah, transient success doesn't change the culture and determine the "school" status. Even with a final four visit as a fanbase football is still king. It's like the DC area. That's a football area. Redskins dominate the culture and the media focus even when they are ass and the other sports are doing much better.

Now if it happens for like 10 years and football just goes into the shitter then I could see it happening. But both of those things seem rather unlikely.

I'm also in the 2012-2016 boat and agree that the first seven games of that basketball season were the best. I could have sworn it was Smart that got the chant though while Nash had the one guy that screamed "hey Nash! You suck!" During every quiet moment.

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

Hmm, you might be right. I can't really remember.

We went 17-26-1, no bowl games, and three losses to LOLUVA when I was a student. Wanna trade? We had several night games. (only 2 of 10 total at home though). 23-32-1 with zero bowl games and dropped 3 to LOL if you count the year of graduate school.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

83-87 were my seasons as a student. I won't even give them the dignity of a recap, other than I was there for the Bruce Smith era, and Frank's first year was my last as an undergrad. There aren't many of you out there I wouldn't trade with - and THOSE are other people from my era.

Honestly, we were more of a basketball school then. Final Four of the NIT - when it meant a lot more, since the NCAAs didn't siphon off the first 64 68 473 teams.

My first year was 93 and we have been to a bowl ever since. Kind of afraid to move away the Burg and ruin a good run.

I started in '93 too. We had a good run in both football and b-ball while we were there.

VT BSEE '98, VT MSME '01

Your last was my first. I managed to miss Bruce, any Bowl game, and being good at basketball - losing record for both marquee sports while I was there. But I would not trade with anyone from another school.

Some states allow you to take the exam before you have 4 years of experience. I can tell you from experience that Virginia is NOT one of those states.

PSA to all you new EIT's out there - for the love of god, do whatever you can to take the PE in the Spring. Outside of football, there is so much more going on socially in the fall as opposed to the Spring where everyone is still defrosting. If you're a Virginia engineer, just take the test in North Carolina then get reciprocity in Virginia once you have four years of experience.

I'm banking on it being available year round like the FE is within the next few years. Or hopefully by the time I take it. I took the CBT FE and thought it was fine. I think it will be more beneficial to everyone's stress levels and make it easier to prep if they switch it to CBT. Which it's already been approved so it's just a matter of time.

Why announce so early?

Where is Lawson?!

This is the normal time to announce unless ESPN puts a 6 day hold on the game.

If CW picks it up in Richmond that will suck. Likely blacked out on ESPN app and then DirecTV doesn't have CW right now. Random night game for not a big TV audience.

With the ACC Network swiftly approaching, I think you'll see this happen more often. When ESPN will be scheduling games across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SECN, and ACCN, there's another primetime slot available. We're one of the better draws in the ACC when we're good, so I would imagine we'll be among the rotation in the primetime slot.

On the flipside, maybe shifting some games to the ACCN will allow ESPN to appease the PAC-12 and put a few more of their games in the 3:30 and 7-8 EST kickoff range.

Why the hell do these PAC fans and coaches want noon or earlier kickoffs?

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Join us in the Key Players Club

I think a lot of PAC fans/coaches are upset because people on the east coast don't really get to see a lot of west coast games. They're typically coming on at 10-11 pm eastern, so it plays into their perception of east coast bias.

...then we snapback and tell em "don't live on the west coast then!!!

Sports bars gotta show something

They aren't? A 3:30 EST kickoff time is 12:30 PST.

But to really answer your question, I think a lot of it has to do with the fanbases who travel to the games. Remember a few years ago when a lot of VT fans were in an uproar because we didn't have any night games and a plethora of nooners? When Weaver was asked about it, he made reference to the wishes of fans who preferred those nooners.

I imagine it's much the same for PAC-12 fans. Diehards like us here & CFB Reddit love the prolonged tailgating and crazy atmosphere of night games, but we're not like everyone. People might be driving 3-4 hours after a game, maybe with kids too. Washington's 3 home games this season have had local kickoff times of 5 pm, 6:30 pm and 7:45 pm.

That's the norm, and they very rarely have nationally broadcasted games from the west coast that end while the sun is still up. I'm sure it takes a toll on the fans.

But does anyone truly care about west coast football??

I'm sorry when you say 7:20, you mean 12:00 eastern time, correct?

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

IIRC this is not uncommon at other schools during the game, OSU comes to mind. Although this is interesting be more interested to see if they keep them on during Enter Sandman, although it may just look like a massive mess of light.

I don't give a damn what the fans think cause, quite frankly, I know what the fans want better than they do.

They used an app last year to control phone lights in Cassell. Figured they could've the same here...

Completely forgot about that, its more probable than not that they use whatever app was used in Cassell.

Is Bray Wyatt going to come out of the tunnel

Hello all you boys and girls I'd like to take you to the inside world It's quite an irregular place to be But never fear you're safe with me. Well maybe

Probably not, but if Fuente leads the team out carrying a lamp and all of Lane sung He's got the whole world in his hands I guess we're prepared.

Unfortunately, this probably won't go through well with a chance of 90-100% monsoon cold rains Saturday night.

Fingers crossed the forecast changes.

monsoon = hurricane right?

It's not going to be that windy. (5-10mph)
It's not going to be a downpour, but there will be steady rain.
It's not going to be cold. Just chilly (temps in the 50's)

Think lower 40's and close to an inch of rain...

It's gonna be miserable out there.

WEATHER GAMES ARE THE BEST GAMES. LETS GET WET. LIKE BY RAIN...YEAH.

"I'm a Miller Lite guy, always have been, since I was 8." -John Daly

Clemson fans did this in Lane during the game a few weeks back. Was kinda cool.

Someone correct me if I' wrong, but this isn't any kind of "effect" game. I can just wear maroon and be done with it

Yeah. The Effect games were ODU, Clemson, and UNC. They are over.

That's what I thought, just wanted to be sure. Appreciate it

My dad's in the hospital and other season ticket holder friends don't want to make the trip if it's for sure going to be raining. I know this is an ACC Network game, but will it be broadcast on TV?

"Tyrod, looking desperately, now throws it deep, has a man open, CAUUUGHT! Danny Coale, all the way!"

I have 3 favorite teams. VT, Kentucky, and whoever the hell is playing Tennessee.

Tell your season ticket holder friends that they still play football in the rain ;)

you gotta shake it before you bake it!

I think it should be on espn3. And worst case scenario you could check out /r/cfbstreams

Streaming on ACC app and website.

Still haven't learned of any place that ESPN3 doesn't black out ACCN.

Main Raycom announcers doing our game. Means the B team is doing the noon ACC Network game.

Nice, we're on the CW. This will work out nicely as I can go from binge watching old episodes of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and streamline it straight into kickoff.
