Clemson kicker tore his ACL in practice yesterday

Got to wait for the official injurty report but it looks like Clemson's starting kicker tore his ACL in practice. A backup kicker making his 2nd start in Blacksburg next Saturday night? I think some blocked kicks are on the menu!

Let's hope they're blocked field goals and not PATs.

Screw it, we'll block his kickoffs too!

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

I'm not going to celebrate someone being injured, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out next Saturday.

Not celebrating but I can see us pressuring this new guy on every kick next Saturday night. One Clemson fan on /r/CFB said that the knock on his backup is that he can't control his nerves. I would think Shibest makes putting pressure on him a priority.

Why are you all being so pessimistic? Blocked FGs and PATs? I want none of that. I want their kicker to never see the field. I want the entire defense to wear 25 and I want every throw to be a pick-6. Come on!! Get your heads right!!!

Hope the kid is ok though.

You want their offense to get to take the field?

A real fan would want fumbles on every kickoff...

You are right. I'm sorry I'm such a terrible fan. I'll try harder next time.

Joey Slye kicks everything out of the end zone...

... and on that rare occasion, he also kicks everything out of the return man.

There's bound to be a safety in there somewhere. Then the kicker really won't see the field.

well I mean you do "kick" off after a safety so....

True, but that's Australian for punter.

Plays like this always make me amazed that fractured forearms are not way more common in football.

Good lord that is brutal. Poor guy. Hope he can get a medical redshirt and make a full recovery next year.

What are the rules for getting the medical redshirt? It seems like only playing three games should fall well within the limits.

I think it has to be less than 4 games, but I'm not sure.

The player must have suffered an injury during their senior year of high school, or during one of their four eligible seasons for college competition. (This does not provide for players who are already redshirting a season and are injured in practice.)
The injury suffered must be "incapacitating", meaning it must be a season-ending injury.
The injury must occur during the first half of the season.
The player must have competed in no more than 30% of the season or four games, whichever is greater.

Except there is no official designation for "redshirting", it is automatically applied to any player that fails to see the field the entire season, unless he has already redshirted. Does he mean that such cases are not called "medical redshirts"?

At the very least it would count towards allowing a 6th year of eligibility, should they miss another season due to injury, which is an important distinction.

Take a look at Caleb Farley. Since he got injured in the preseason, he'll just take a regular redshirt, and he'll still have his four years of eligibility left. If he gets hurt in a future season, then he would likely be granted the medical redshirt and an option of a sixth season.

Which finger will he put his sixth national championship ring on?

Well...He's not JPP, so he should still have 4 leftover for Super Bowls

The difference is that Farley wasn't "already redshirting", even if that were an official status designated onto a player, as he was planning to play this season. Anyway, my comment was more that their phrasing was incorrect, not that it was actually called a "medical redshirt" in those cases.

Lets just see how he handles Boston College first.

Non-factor since Clemson will never be in a position to score. OK, I'm being REALLY optimistic here.

Hope they have enough confidence in him so they don't go for it on 4th downs when they would normally try field goals.

Damn, sucks for that kid. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

...don't hear about the kicker tearing their ACL too often

Yeah right? Wonder how that will affect his kicking ability later.

Hope he heals fast and makes full recovery

Bill Gramatica would like a word.

I've been drinking.

ACL tears blow. I dont wish that on anyone.

Hope the kid is ok......and I hope Tim Settle flattens his backup.

On a more cheerful note, I went lurking around the tigernet site... found a thread where they can't make up their minds as to whether they want to finish 1st or 2nd, meaning Sugar bowl vs. Rose bowl. Either way it sounds like most fans will skip the playoff game, and just go to the NC game.

they never be bak until they learn to play together as a team.

To be fair, when you've been to back-to-back national championship games you can get a little cocky. But I get you. Fuck Clemson and their coke addict mascot.

"It's a miracle in Blacksburg, TYROD DID IT MIKEY, TYROD DID IT!"

and just go to the NC game

Glad to hear they'll be there to cheer us on

I just went lurking over there and learned that Sammy Watkins is a flat earther...

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Where you been all day brother? That's been all over sports media and social media all day.

Thought he went to Clemson, not UNC

Where is Lawson?!

That is going to be hard for them to do after we beat them twice this season.

Dang. Sounds like some misguided BC fan decided to go all Tanya Harding down in Clemson.

"BC fan"........ good one

Clemson is currently ranked 98th in special teams efficiency. While I would never wish someone to have a serious injury like this, there's no denying that this could be a significant setback for them. While I hope that the replacement kicker only sees the field once, whenever he is out there, you better believe Shibest will have his number.

We wont win the race until a trophy is in the case!

I guess technically I hope that he never sees the field at all seeing as you can actually choose a side of the field both halves versus deciding to receive.

Alternatively, you can elect to kick, like I think a UVA captain did against us one year.
