So we had this discussion a couple of months ago, debating the virtues of cheese on apple pie: http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2017/july/14/ot-cheese-apple-pie
At long last I finally had the chance to try this ... a nice warm slice of apple pie, a nice slice of extra sharp cheddar on top, given time to melt. The rest of the family went with whipped cream and stared at me like you might look at roadkill in front of your house.
I have to say I was thoroughly unimpressed. It wasn't bad ... but honestly, the sweetness of the apples and the flavor of the cinnamon totally overpowered any cheese flavor. One of my girls suggested that maybe I was doing it wrong and suggested adding a second slice of cheese. I figured "why not?" Still utterly unimpressed.
Why would anybody do this to pie when vanilla ice cream or whipped cream are available?
