How many of us have been wrong about Tyrod?

Apparently, his name is pronounce Tuh-rod, not Ty-rod. Has this been stated before?

It turns out, everyone has been pronouncing Tyrod Taylor's name wrong this entire time. According to Browns left tackle Joel Bitonio, Tyrod Taylor's first name is actually pronounced Tuh-rod, not Ty-rod.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

I'm very confused right now.

someone posted this to TechSideline, but in the video Tyrod pronounces it "Tyrod" but his mom pronounces it "Tuh-ROD"

Momma named him. Momma ain't wrong. But I also think people can pronounce their name however they want. So if he wants TY-rod, I'm cool with that too.

I call shenanigans.

How about we just go with Ty Taylor.....................

....or is it just Tuh?

That team sure did suck last night. They just plain sucked! I've seen teams suck before, but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.

Hm..

Next you're gonna tell me gif is pronounced like jif. Psh.

Not as nearly as bad as my cousin pronouncing meme like "mem." It makes me cringe.

Worked with a guy who said "me-me." Killed me but I didn't know him enough to correct it.

Me too. I got second hand embarrassment every time I heard it.

When he was still at VT, I was watching an away game on Raycom and the color announcer kept calling him "Tayrod" and at one point I swear he said his full name as "Tayrod Telly".

I'm certain I once heard Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson talk about "Tee Timbow"

Chem PhD '16

Verne was not one to pay close attention to the Virginia Tech pronunciation guide in the media guide. The Sun Bowl was baaaad.

Still not as bad as Hank Stram, former NFL coach and color commentator calling us "West Virginia Tech" (several times) during one broadcast in the 80's.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

I feel like this is his OL messing with him and pulling one over on the media as well.

HOW MANY OF US HAVE BEEN WRONG ABOUT TYROD?

CBS Sports, for starters

"Some days you’re a horse and some days you’re a horse’s ass. I’ve been a horse’s ass for a little while." - Roy Halladay

Lou Holtz called him Tyron Tyler during one broadcast I remember

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

The fact that you could tell Lou Holtz was even saying that is impressive

Bud/Wiles 2020

Man, I was re-watching some old college football clips last week, and there was a short segment where he was speaking. It was really, really, bad. I guess not seeing/hearing him speak for a while kind of made me forget just how bad it really was.

Hell, Lou Holtz can't pronounce his own name, even before he went batshit crazy.

Did anybody else read the title and think this was a thread about fans' inaccurate prognostications of Tyrod's career coming out of college?

Ask me in 10 years.

I can say I have not been wrong. I've seen the videos where his family mentions his name or he's mentioned his name in some context, and it's always been "Tuh-rod". That being said, I've been lazy and never bothered changing anyone's pronunciation about it.

Chem PhD '16

This was an excellent response lol. +1

My buddy always liked his name because it's the same as a car part, a tie rod. Without those, you can't steer.

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

How do you steer with a tuh-ROD?

I think the Bill's were wrong about Tyrod, particularly in Week 11 last year....

I enjoyed that clusterfuck of a game so much.

How about "5"? It's not as though anybody else is called that...

I heard it as tyr-od or ter-od not tuh-rod. I think his twitter maybe tytaylor5. So that makes me think ty-rod it is. Who knows? I always see him downtown spring weekend. If it is not cleared up by then I will just ask him about it. lol

Hokies fan since 1998

I was starting to feel a little guilty about calling my favorite Hokie QB by the wrong name for 10 years.

...the proper pronunciation for Tyrod Taylor is Tuh-rod Taylor (NOT TY-rod).

And they still didn't specify on which syLABble to put the emPHASis.

This story is starting to really bother me.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Yeah, well they also tell me it's pronounced "jif," so...

wait I upvoted before reading your comment thoroughly enough. Are you team peanut butter or team gift?

Tyrod could not have given a better answer to that question. I don't know if his management is advising on this or he is running with it himself, but the more this is a thing the better for him. Cleveland is likely a short stop for him. He needs his name, however they might say it, in the mouths of fans and sports commentators as much as possible. Then he just needs to shine on the field which I think we are all confident about.

Hopefully he finally finds his team.

Tyrod could not have given a better answer to that question.

He did? All I got from that is that he doesn't seem to care.

That's the point. He wasn't definitive therefore it's still a story for people to talk about.

"I need a tu-lynol"

Didnt know where else to post this, but yall see McCarron suffered a hairline fracture in his collar bone against the Browns? How long should that put him out? Buffalo already getting their comeuppins

Bill Roth didn't say "Tuh-Rod did it Mikey!". Whatever Bill called him is what I'll call him.

Regardless, there are a number of ways to spell the name with the "Tuh" sound that don't include the letter "y", which is not unambiguous about its pronunciation. You'd think, with the current style, that T'Rod would do. All that said, I figure we should call him what he wants, a la Tony Dorsit, Dorset etc.

Yeah, but tuh-ROD himself says TY-rod.

Regardless, I went to high school with him, and literally never once heard anybody call him "tuh-ROD" except for his mom.

Does anybody but Muhammed Ali's mama call hiim Cassius Clay?
