Hokies on the Pro Fields 2018

There is light at the end of this dark tunnel known as the off-season. NFL pre-season has officially started with the HOF game last night. We have got to show love for all of our Hokies who have made it big.

In reading the "Hokies in the Pros 2018" thread last night during the HOF game it was mentioned that we should have a separate thread for on the field action.

HokieFireman said a separate thread would be helpful to him so he could just deal with roster info.

So use this thread to post any on the field action from our Hokies in the Pros from now until February.

Hokie Nation was represented last night when Chuck Clark got a pick in the opening drive of the season.

Reports are that a few players, including Cam were injured in the Bills practice yesterday.

Yep, left practice with a groin injury. Hopefully not serious!

Woody Baron's Montreal Alouettes got demolished by Hamilton 50-11 last night. Montreal QB Johnny Manziel threw 4 first half INTs.

On the bright side, Woody got his first CFL sack. Congrats to him!

Montreal QB Johnny Manziel threw 4 first half INTs.

With that kind of performance Johnny Football will be on the Bills in no time. After all it's a short trip from Montreal and they really need someone to compete with Nathan Peterman after his 5 first half INT performance last year.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

You know why he is called Johnny Football right?

Because Johnny Bench was already taken.

He can take up the Johnny Knockout moniker since he is in the concussion protocol now. Was said to have happened on his second drive of the game where he threw the four picks.

"Guys kind of gravitate to him — he's a natural-born leader," Dorsey said. "Guys believe in his ability to move the chains, and when you don't turn the ball over — and God knows in 2017, we turned the ball over a lot — this franchise needed stability like that."

Anyone know how Tremaine played? So far all I've heard is that he looked a bit lost while he was on the field.

Ah here we are:

That's really surprising after everything we've heard coming out of Buffalo so far.

"How the ass pocket will be used, I do not know. Alls I know is, the ass pocket will be used."

I watched a bit of the game and he definitely looked timid. I know he's going to be their starter so he didn't play much, but I think since he's also a rookie he needs to get a little bit more time in the preseason. Even though he has insane physical gifts, he is having a lot to learn between the ears as well as adjusting to the speed of the game. It just looked like he wasn't entirely confident in some of his decisions and I think the only way to get rid of that is in game reps.

He looks like I would expect a rookie to look, a few plays he was a step slow in diagnosing what was in front of him, on the more straightforward plays he handled his assignment. He looks physically imposing, even at the professional level, but will need a year to adjust to the game and learn the new system. I don't think that is unusual or any sort of knock on him. NFL GMs should be looking at year 2 for solid play and year 3 pro bowl for a guy taken in the top half of the first round. Year 1 is the learning curve.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

Is it normal for an NFL defense to have all three linebackers lined up practically on top of one another like the Bills are doing on a lot of those plays? That seems sub-optimal.

Remember, he is one of the youngest players in the league (still 19 I believe). He will figure it out.

I would like to draft the Hokies as my NFL defense for fantasy this year.

Andrew Motuapuaka got his name butchered, but also got it called a whole bunch because of the butchering, in the Jags game. Looked pretty solid in terms of reading the play and getting his nose where the ball was. Also brought me the sads seeing him and C.J. Reavis on the same team stopping plays in their tracks.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

Goodness, how hard is it for announcers to pronounce "Andrew" the right way? So frustrating.

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

In the preseason, even the most overlooked athletes can make big plays. Undrafted and undersized rookie linebacker Andrew Motuapuaka received his opportunity to shine on a key fourth-down stop Thursday during the Jaguars' preseason opener against the New Orleans Saints

Really happy for Chuck Clark, I thought he was one of the most underrated Hokies of all-time. Sounds like he had a good rookie year (didn't really follow the Ravens last year) and is on track to become a starter in the near future.

ive seen him make quite a bit of really good plays and a few INTs on his IG story. unfortunately I don't know if he will make this jags team as they have a TON of depth and talent in the secondary right now. Might latch on as a special teams guy though.

so good to see Hokies making plays on Sunday... damn't, i may have to start watching NFL again

Hard to believe that was his first interception since November 16, 2013(!)

He has a chance to see the field, the Chargers lost their starting CB to injury for the season.

I guess med school is going to have to wait.

Man, I don't really have teams, but all these players doing well in the preseason, I hope that trend continues during the year. I will totally be watching for that.

Torrian Gray and Greg Stroman continuing to come up in conversation during Washington Redskins training camp:

As the Redskins defensive backs and Jets wide receivers moved to the 1-on-1 drills, Torrian Gray's group was the one to win the battle. D.J. Swearinger Sr. broke up a deep pass targeted towards the end zone to start off things, with rookie cornerback Greg Stroman also making catches consistently difficult by having his coverage force overthrown passes.

Is it football season yet?

Tim Settle knocked down a pass and continued to dominate the backups.

Ugh. Tyrod just landed awkwardly on his wrist. Looked like he was in a good bit of pain.

I love football a lot but man I hate it sometimes.

It has to be either broken or dislocated. It looked nasty in that replay.

He looked ok on the sideline.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

Dislocated pinky.

FAHK WHY

I just sit on my couch and b*tch. - HokieChemE2016

Holy Crap! Tyrod came back... Gotta love him.

2 time Longwood grad married to a Hokie.

Browns offense has looked terrible through the air the last two games. I am sot sure if it is the play calling or Tyrod playing conservative in the preseason, but in all the 3rd and Long (lots of penalties on the Browns so far) Tyrod has been dumping the ball off to WRs with no chance of making the 1st down. On a couple of them it almost seems like Tyrod takes the dump before letting the play develop. The OL has also been bad pass blocking. I really want to see Tyrod light it up for his and the Browns sake, but the way the preseason is going, I have the feeling the calls for Baker will be at a furor by week 6.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

First, you need to take the preseason with a grain of salt. We talking about practice, man.

Second, the calls for Baker will be at a furor on Day One. He's the overall number one pick on a team that has one win in the last 32 tries. What's to lose will be the rallying cry. Tyrod's in a tough spot. However, if anyone can handle it, I believe Tyrod can. He's humble, even-keeled, and he's a grinder. It's going to work out for him... even if it's not eventually in Cleveland.

Leonard. Duh.

even if it's not eventually in Cleveland.

Nothing and I mean nothing ever works out in Cleveland.

I think Isaiah Ford also tackled Clark after the INT

Here are most of the current depth chart positions, and a few stats after the 3rd preseason games:

Tyrod Taylor - Cleveland - QB - (current depth chart 1st)

Isaiah Ford - Miami - WR - 0 receptions, 0 yards, 2 targets - (current depth chart 2nd)

Logan Thomas - Buffalo - TE - 4 rec, 55 yds, 4 targets, long 20 (led team in receptions and yards) - (depth chart 3rd)

Cam Phillips - Buffalo - WR - 1 rec, 7 yds, 1 target - (current depth chart 7th)

Duane Brown - Seattle - LT - (current depth chart 1st)

Wyatt Teller - Buffalo - LG - (current depth chart 2nd)

DEFENSE

Tremaine Edmunds - Buffalo - MLB (current depth chart 1st)

Kyle Fuller - Chicago - CB - (current depth chart 1st)

Kendall Fuller - Kansas City - CB - (current depth chart 1st)

Terrell Edmunds - Pittsburgh - SS - (current depth chart 2nd)

Chuck Clark - Baltimore - FS - (current depth chart 2nd)

Tim Settle - Washington - NT - (current depth chart 2nd)

Adonis Alexander - Washington - CB - (current depth chart 2nd)

Antone Exum - San Francisco - SS - (current depth chart 2nd)

Andrew Motuapuaka - Jacksonville - MLB - (current depth chart 3rd)

Brandon Faycson - LA Chargers - RCB - (current depth chart tied 3rd)

Dadi Nicolas - Washington - WLB - (current depth chart 4th)

Nigel Williams - Arizona - DT - (current depth chart 5th)

Just noticed the Steelers are having some extraordinarily bad injury luck at the tight end position. And, as best as I can tell, Bucky Hodges is going to go into Week 1 as the starter, by virtue of being the only healthy TE on the roster. Big opportunity for him.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

If he catches a ball and falls down i will shit on my couch and leave it there.

Not sure if any of you saw it, but Quin Blanding got run over by a TE from Baltimore last night. Brought back some good memories.

I watched Cleveland beat Pittsburg 21-21. Tyrod wasn't pretty (15/40, 197 yards), but I also got the feeling that most Browns fans weren't thinking about throwing Mayfield out there, either.

There were some major timing problems on the routes; and I think the weather was the biggest culprit in that. (Early passes were overthrown; once Tyrod adjusted everything looked underthrown).

He didn't have much time in the pocket, but even then he took a couple of sacks where he should have just thrown it away. I think his running alone would be enough in this game to keep the fans yelling for Baker just yet. He had a TD run and a first down run that only Tyrod could have made.

Even with all the drops, his receivers made a couple of fantastic catches.

Hopefully next time out the timing will be much better. But Tyrod couldn't figure out how sure-footed the receivers would be on any given throw, and he guessed wrong just as often as not.

I'm a huge Tyrod homer but even I gotta admit that a lot of those struggles today were on him. Sure, his O-line could have been a bit better in pass protect but a better QB completes a lot of those passes he had. He would not work the middle of the field at all. There were other times where he had Gordon or Landry in an advantage but would hold on to the ball too late and be forced into something minimal. He also overthrew a lot of guys in the red zone trying to play it too safe (overthrow so as to not get an INT). He just flat out needs to take more risks as a QB. It's been his biggest knock as a starter. He's got great talent around him now. He just needs to trust getting the ball to them in tight windows. Otherwise, they'll have Mayfield in there by the end of the month.

Oh my god, as a Vikings and Hokie fan I just watched Kyle Fuller drop a pick that would have sealed the loss for Green Bay and they score two plays later... This is what actual "both of my favorite teams" nightmares are made of.

Just came here to post this.

Kyle Fuller may have ended the Bears season with that drop. DB or not, you have to catch that ball.

Not a Bears fan (Fly Eagles Fly), but this was a choke job

I just hate the Packers (Cowboys fan) and that play killed me. Like come on, they can't keep getting away with that time after time after time. Fuller had the game sealed and it just died and then the Bears followed suit.

I yelled out loud because I knew in that moment the Bears would lose and Kyle Fuller could have been the one to save them.
