2018 Fall Camp Scrimmage I Social Media Report

I am in and out of appointments this evening. Here is the quick skinny:

1) A clip is shown of the first team offense going out for the first play of the scrimmage. Here was the lineup:

WR- Phillip Patterson
WR-Eric Kumah
Y-Chris Cunningham
H-Dalton Keene
TB-Jalen Holston
QB-Josh Jackson

LT Silas Dzansi
LG Unseen
C Kyle Chung
LG Braxton Pfaff
RT Unseen

2) A pass pro drill was shown with the 2nd OL group, which featured Zack Hoyt and Lecitus Smith. Smith pairs up with Jarrod Hewitt. Hewitt tries a bull rush. Smith buried his feet but Hewitt doesn't transition into a different move to take advantage. It was an uninspiring rep.

3) The film opens with a third team vs. third team middle drill. Dax is playing mike with Clay Dean, Nate Proctor, and a blue jersey at DT in front. OL group had Luke Tenuta, Aiden Brown, and walk on Daniel Bailey. Hollifield popped the back pretty good.

4) What appears to be the No. 2 OL has a scrimmage rep. James Mitchell is working as a true H-Back. He seals off the back-side pursuit on an inside zone. Christian Darrisaw appears to be getting some movement at left tackle. Hoyt is at center with this group. Lecitus Smith rides Jimmie Taylor up field. Tyrell Smith appears to be at right tackle. I believe Austin Cannon is working at right guard, but I wouldn't bet the farm on the visual identification. Cole Beck is the RB on the play.

Beck is in on the next play. Quincy Patterson breaks contain when he gets pressured by the man who the H-Back is responsible for. He rolls out left and completes a throw on the left sideline. Nice athleticism and good throw going against the arm-strength side.

Comments

Patterson with a fake (nice mesh point fools the contain) to Caleb Steward. Rolls right and hits Mitchell on the bootleg. Still the 2OL in with the young skill guys.

Mark my words - Mitchell is going to be a weapon. Tons of upside and a real smart kid. Was a good blocker in high school and deadly with the ball in his hands. Glad to see him making some plays, he's got a ton of potential.

He looks a little uncomfortable with the contact. Leads with his shoulder and a chicken wing rather than a confident pop. If he stays inside, they will work that out of him.

Hopefully they can get that worked out, may be some jitters as well. He's a coaches son with a good work ethic so should pick things up as he gets acclimated. He's got the frame to put on some mass that should help too.

Yep. Just an adjustment. This is his first time playing people who are as big, fast, and strong/stronger than him. It is an adjustment for all freshmen. He has plenty of time.

I have a feeling that he'll be a hybrid and play outside a lot....like Bucky.

Chamarri Conner had his eyes in the backfield and was late getting to Mitchell on the pass from Patterson. Great fake. I didn't get the number but I think it was Garbutt that went chasing Steward.

Last play was a read option. It looks like the corner blitz was on, with Farley closing on Hooker. Hooker handed off even though Garbutt was crashing backside and Debose was crashing playside and unblocked. Steward got crunched pretty good. Tisdale was at backer (with Farley to the boundary.) It was nice to see those young DEs playing fast.
