/sorry, I had to

Hopefully we hear lots of good things in the next two or three weeks. It's officially in-home visit season before early signing day.

Going to have to get a JUCO or Grad Defensive Tackle and now need a Cornerback from either of those ranks too. Way too thin and unproven there to go into next year expecting success.

Saw Evan Watkins tweet today that Fuente went in home visit with a JUCO DT target. Rest was linked to behind a paywall article so I won't post the players name

Wait, why clean up the footnotes?

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

They want to censor my work

What's the story with Antoine Whitner? Also Jaden Cunningham both are listed as warmer on 247.

Idk where we are at with Whitner, if at all.

To my knowledge Jaden Cunningham is one of our backup options if we can't land Figueroa.

Who do we expect to sign in the early signing period.

I don't even know who we have committed anymore.

If you don't want to recruit clowns, don't run a clown show.

Not a stellar offer list.....even though that obviously doesn't give the full picture.

Evan Watkins with a quick CB, could we also be getting a quick commit?

I may be overpresumptious, but I really really really like his tape. He not only tackles people but seeks destruction. It's like watching Dax's tape from a year ago. This guy could be a true diamond in the rough

He is a special Teams Beast! He was past the Guard on that FG block before the Guard was out of his stance.

Can he beef up 75 lbs and not lose his quickness? He could dominate at DT!

Asante the Assassin next to Dax the Axe!

Talk about a quick-twitch. Looks like Asante has been playing Beamer Ball since 8th grade.

Sign me up. According to the 247 guys, he didn't play LB until this year. Runs like a deer and hits like a truck. Seems to me like he's a better version of Dean Ferguson.

Not going to be his last P5 offer either. But I could definitely see this going similarly to Payoute's recruitment. Quick visit and a commit.

I'm by NO means a scout, but his film looks damn impressive.

Agree with y'all on Asante's tape. Feel like he could contribute at RB or LB.
Like his aggression and the fact he doesn't give on on plays when he's cornered
or it seems like the play is over. Also like the excitement he displayed when offered.

Guys, I feel like no one here is appreciating that when they place the spotlight on the film it's on the player that he has already devastated. Looks like he seeks out delivering the pain. I like it. I like it a lot.

He's been relisted as an OLB on 247 and received a ratings bump. It's kind of funny they don't pay much attention to a player until someone becomes interested. Then they finally start evaluating. His overall ranking jumped 820 spots.

Wow. I kept thinking "you poor child" about the guys he was tackling. He brings some thunder.

JUCO we offered today.

There's a few interesting things with this guy. Oregon, whose coach Mario Cristobal is a former Alabama OL coach, is an ace recruiter and it's shown in Oregon's recruiting success already, has offered him and he's been on an official visit there. They've got a strong class coming in and they've recruited JUCO well.

That's a big positive check mark for me.

I would agree with you if the coach he was taking over for wasn't a big name coach! Would be the same as when Satan retires!

Two things:
1) Thank you for taking the time to link the 247 profile of these guys. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has to Google the name to find the profile so that I have some idea who you are talking about.
2) Keeping #1 in mind, can we stop referring to high school kids by their last name only? It can make searching for their profile extremely hard. Sometimes you have to search context clues you pick up in the post, such as state, city, position, half of the high school name, etc. Searching "Smith RB" would likely return 15,000 results.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to follow recruiting and posting updates.

Arguably, I'm the best pure football player in the state. It's not an argument that will get much further than the eyeball test, but if I were a sports commentator, I could still post that statement as clickbait and not technically be bullshitting.

And I'm still the best E flat alto baritone player ever to march with the Highty Tighties.

And I'm probably the worst trumpet player to ever march with them. Just ask dcwilson40.

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

I was actually a good french horn player, but we didn't march with them. Rat year, they made me march with a tenor drum. Sophomore year, they gave me the little baritone and told me to transpose the music. I'd never played one before, and I couldn't get the hang of transposition, so I just ditched the printed music and played whatever I wanted to by ear. It was strangely freeing and set the stage for much more enjoyable music making in my future by making me listen more and read less. If I hadn't flunked out, I'd likely have kept playing it in marching band, but I did love playing the french horn in those days and did so in concert band.

It's my understanding we are going to have all of those potential JUCO DT's on campus for the same OV, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Really like Crawford for VT's system. If we can't get Fig then this is the next guy on the list for me. Would be pretty happy taking he and Cunningham.

Agree. He and Fig are my top 2. I also really like Joshua Fuga as a 2019 DT, especially if Dorlus flips or doesn't intend to sign early.

It was noted that Wiles went to visit him after the Marshall game.

Well, this could be an interesting weekend for them to visit. The forecasts are all over the place at this point, but if the storms take a northerly path, they could see a lot of snow this weekend.

Now up to 3 CBs for Crawford (Watkins, Warren, and Sis) as well as 2 for Cunningham (Watkins and Sis). Judging by Cunningham's size (6'1 326) he def seems physically ready to go. Would be awesome to land these two this weekend. Haven't looked up Fig yet tho y'all seem to like him so I hope we land him lol.

Fig is priority number one, though maybe the least likely of the bunch. H seems like a UCLA lean, and that's where he wanted to go originally out of high school from what I understand.

Yes. I don't know why, but it definitely isn't not cryptic.

Hire Urban Meyer as a contract employee to grab us some elite recruits; especially some DTs, DBs, and HBs. Then Clemson better watch out.

Are we recruiting any QBs ? Depending on who starts next year, we might be in a situation where one or two of [JJ, RW, HH] transfer ??

I'd be surprised if JJ or RW left. Fu will probably keep the completion open into fall camp partly for that reason

Have you heard anything of whether HH is thinking of transferring? He's gotten next to no playing time this year, and seems like its doubtful he beats out RW or JJ next year?

Unfortunately he would be crazy not to. He's a good athlete but was rumored to have troubles with progressions and the play book.

There will be more players leaving this offseason. Since the transfer market opens so early now, players announce earlier to get more eyes on them. When end of the year evaluations and off season program starts more will come out. I predict one big name and a few guys that are getting passed in the depth chart

"Welcome to the Terror Dome." -- Corey Moore

hmmm, I don't much care for this "one big name leaving" talk :(

All this talk of guys leaving, are there rumors of guys coming in???? Not JUCO guys persay but grad transfers, G5 transfers, etc?

- Mike Burnup

For what it's worth I think it's typical around this time of season to have more transfer requests out than in. The players are only just now putting themselves out on the recruiting market.

Yes, but given all the transfers out that we have donated to the market, surely there has to a decent DL player out there looking to transfer from another team that we could get. Of course, unless he's a grad trans, he'd sit a year, but hey, hard up is hard up. In short, the question is has a defensive lineman from another P5 school said he is moving on? And its a spot where a year redshirting and bulking and hulking would give us some depth..........
Is there some website that keeps track of players who have announced they are intending to transfer?

French in shambles.

Ok gurus I hate to ask but is this shaping up to be a pretty down class?

We've seen a lot of spots open up in what was supposed to be a small class and it looks like we're expecting more. With this in mind I'm just not seeing any special names being thrown out at this point. Usually at this point in the year we still have some blue chippers that we're at least still in the discussion for. I know new names will start popping up here over these few weeks but after a tough season is there any hope that this class shapes up to be decent? (decent from a VT perspective)

Using /s is for cowards.

the spots that have been opening up have been making room for the current commits + a handful of additional DL (some JUCO).

This class is as good as any in recent history when you look at average composite score and the # of players getting 4-star ratings from various services.

Why would Doug Nester need an Edit?? Hmm

No he ain't.

247 says he is on the timeline at the bottom of his page.

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

So if I can't believe everything I read on the internet what makes this site more reliable than 247? Why would they put untrue info up there on his page? Idk the kid, I just know what I read. What makes you confident that he's not visiting Ole Miss when his page says otherwise? Not trying to troll just curious how people on the keyplay figure out info...

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

Don't want to break the paywall rule but he was scheduled to take it and has since cancelled. They probably just haven't gotten around to taking it down.

It was refuted on the 247 boards too (in a post not behind a paywall).

Using /s is for cowards.

The simple answer is sometimes plans change. A recruit may schedule multiple official visits, commit after the first or second, and then choose to cancel or not attend future visits. It could be because the coach they committed to has a policy about it, or they simply don't want to take anymore themselves. The result is sometimes an OV may remain listed for awhile because the site (247 in this case) maybe didn't know or hadn't gotten around to changing it. They have to manage the profiles of hundreds, even thousands of prospects.

Generally speaking, that information is very reliable, but it's subject to change.

Just don't question LA he knows his shit

Doubtful. Based on his offer list they needed to clear a commit out, he was one of if not their lowest ranked recruit.

Awesome. Now we just need to convince him that Alabama and Florida just aren't for him.

High-4* guy from Alabama, committed to Alabama...with a ton of pro-Bama stuff on his Profile page.

Obviously, would LOVE to have this guy, but looks like a major longshot. Maybe the staff knows something but, otherwise, it would seem wise to spend our time and resources elsewhere.

Agreed, this will be a tough sell, but maybe he wants to play immediately and that path at BAMA has a slew of mountains in it.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

You put those words together, those are my favorite words, Popeyes and bahama

Unfortunately, lack of playing early doesn't seem to deter a lot of guys. Especially, at Bama when you can sit for two years and still be considered a 2nd round pick.

In a lot of cases its a plus. The development is there with a decreased risk of injury and wear and tear. Come in for your junior year, dominate for a year then get drafted.

I'm glad we are offering guys like this and trying to recruit them, but this is an almost 5* Bama commit that I don't see us landing. He's 6'6.5 and 340 lbs that would really be something to see a Bud Foster defense with a guy like that.

Alabama is probably pretty nervous now that the big dogs are offering.

Don't worry, you can't go straight from high school to the NFL even if it is the Cleveland Browns

He's a four star? So when does he decommit for PSU?

/ducks

With the recent 247composite updates, we are now up to five 4* players in this class. I think with all the negativity surrounding our recruiting lately, I want to point out a few positives about the staff and this recruiting class:

1) Keshawn King and Tayvion Robinson have been bumped up to 4*. These were big eval wins by the staff, particularly with King. We went into Florida and found a relative gem in a talent-rich area, and now this is being recognized properly by the recruiting services after a great senior campaign.

2) J.R. Walker, we came out of nowhere to land this guy. This is one of those "unexpected" recruiting wins that we always seem to be on the wrong side of. Most people had him going to NC State. This was a great snag at a position of need (though I do not know whether he ultimately projects as a FS, SS, or whip).

3) OL Recruiting. I'll preface this by saying there are only a handful of schools who land lots of multiple blue-chip OL recruits, and it is a traditionally difficult position to effectively scout, but we went from having both a lack of talent, depth, and just numbers at OL, to recruiting lots of potentially P5 level OL. This cycle we have landed 3 potentially quality OL recruits including a blue-chip guy in Hudson, and stole a life-long Clemson fan in Jesse Hansen. This is after landing 4 OL recruits last cycle, one of which became our starting LT and has been one of the highest graded freshmen players in the country per PFF.

4) Payoute just took a big jump into the top 200 players in the country, and overtook Bryan Hudson as our highest rated recruit.

Overall, I still believe we need to take a step forward in recruiting. We all know about our dire situation with interior DL recruiting, but I do believe that we can recover from it. For all the recent negativity, I felt like this is a little bit of positive perspective about our current class, which has been hard to get excited about after our devastating last second loss on Devyn Ford.

OL recruiting has a pretty good shot to end with a bang this cycle too

Optimism about Nester intensifies

I feel pretty good about our chances. After Urban stepped down, he annnounced that he's pushing his signing back to February and that he'll be taking a few officials. He's visiting OSU this weekend and if we make it through the visit without him reaffirming his commitment, I feel like VT is the likely landing spot in the end

What about OL Coaching? will that end with a bang as well..:)

Piggy backing on what your point (well said, of course), if the average stands this year will have the highest average recruit rating going back 10 years (and possibly farther, I didn't feel like going past 2008), and our last two classes would rank 1st and 3rd by average recruit over the past 10 years.

And this average is without the bump we've had in previous years from that 1 elite (high 90's) guy like Settle or Hunter. This shows that our foundation and depth players across the board are generally getting much better.

"Go Hokies!" - Thomas Jefferson
@HaydenDubya

The OL recruiting is pretty undeniably good. Unfortunately it's the one unit where raw talent won't necessarily be better than a well coached group.

Couldn't agree more. More than anything else with this coaching staff, I am very worried about the passive, lazy blocking technique that I have no choice but to assume is being taught that way. We need to get back to teaching guys how to block aggressively with proper leverage and win the LOS.

Surprised this hasn't been brought up here yet but Fig cancelled his visit this weekend and has eliminated VT from the running. Not a surprise that he won't end up here, but still hurts. Crawford and Cunningham will be both on OV's starting this afternoon, and I wouldn't be shocked to see both of them pull the trigger by the time the weekend is over.

I had so little hope for Fig based on what I was reading, but it definitely still hurts. Cunningham and Crawford will likely be serviceable for two years with hopefully one surprising us while we rebuild our interior OL depth through the next two cycles. Hopefully they will give us time to develop our current projects from this cycle as well.

Adding those guys to Hewitt, and Porcher, I think we can go with a DT by committee approach next year. No one stands out, but at the very least, we can keep guys fresh.

Would think Pollard would definitely RS, maybe Kendricks as well if we can get Fuga. I like Kendricks a lot, but it looks like he lost a little speed gaining weight his senior year. I think he may need some time in our S&C program. Fuga on the other hand carries 300 really well and looks explosive. Here's how I would see the DT depth chart with those guys:

Gap Fillers: Hewitt, Cunningham, Fuga
Gap shooters: Porcher, Crawford, Burke/Fullwood

Have those six rotating series and staying fresh to compensate for our lack of having a "bell cow". Hopefully the rest of our defense matures with a year of experience and can mask that deficiency a little better than we did this year.

I've been thinking about this rotation idea as well. Hewitt, to me, is a guy that is more effective when he's fresh. He seemed much more disruptive at the beginning of the year when he was healthy and rested. He also seems to have a tough time finishing plays once he's beaten his blocker, so I think that may have something to do with his conditioning level as well. If Cunningham can come in and provide similar level of play to Hewitt, then I think that would be a decent combo.

The key to this thing to me is whether or not crawford comes in and is an ACC starting caliber DT. I really like his film for the type of DT that Wiles looks for, but do worry about his size. If he's a hit, then we can allow Porcher to take another year to grow into the player that he has the potential to be. I'm a big Porcher fan but I don't think he'll be quite ready to be a starter in 2019.

Seems that the coaching staff could point to the physical growth of tim settle as an example for this guy. Look where timmy started when he got here and what he is doing now.

From what you know, is it likely we can get these JUCOs through admissions?

Question: the XFL is coming back in 2020. They currently do not have the "3 years removed from High School" rule. Does anyone think Top recruits would be interested in playing in the XFL for a few years, make money, not worry about school, and get drafted? Plus the XFLseason is 10-12 games so less wear and tear on body. This might also serve as the XFLs "niche"

Why wouldn't they?

However, it wouldn't be less wear and tear on body than college football. It would be less than the NFL, but kids right out of HS don't have that option.

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

Because the quality would be worse than D1, they'd be playing older players and more likely to get hurt, and the coaching and development process will likely be less than if they were at a premier P5 school.

Always choose joy.

I think you have a good point, there are some players that could have skipped college, such as Derrick Henry, Leonard Fournette, and Jadeveon Clowney. They were pretty much fully grown adults coming out of high school and were talented enough to play immediately (in the XFL at least).

The college game could lose some great players but I don't see this becoming a significant issue as I do not think many high school players would be ready for the XFL. A guy coming out of high school would have to be physically ready and incredibly talented to do so. The physicality difference between a 22+ year-old professional player and an 17/18 year-old coming out of high school is massive. Also, I don't believe the the XFL has the goal of being a developmental league for the NFL since the NFL will just take that player as soon as he is three years out of school. The XFL is trying to offer an alternative option for football entertainment (modified rules, faster face, no political or social issues). I think this means that they need more mature, physically ready, and more talented players than your standard graduating high school player in order to draw an audience. Very few coming out of high school have that combination so I see the XFL primarily relying on fringe NFL players to build out their rosters.

Man, a 2020 commit already decommitting?

Based on posts from D Vick, 3 VA state champs had coaches who played ball at VT.

Highland Springs, Manchester and ??

Coach John Cowne (vt 80-83), offensive line coach, from Woodgrove Wolverines won the Div 4 state championship.

Centers of Excellence have changed the face of football in Chesterfield. The coaches can basically "recruit" kids to come to their school by having them apply to the Center of Excellence at their school. Some schools were able to put together really strong teams, Manchester comes to mind.

Update: Manchester dominated.

Won't be the last. UNC and UMD are both about to flip some big names

Which is laughable, that a kid will flip to programs who don't even have a full staff in place. Neither program will do anything in conference. Hell neither one have full staffs in place.

Which is why the "win games and recruits will come" crowd clearly doesn't follow recruiting

There is more than one strategy to recruiting. You can hire a salesman and get good recruits instantly or you can hire a coach em up tactician and improve incrementally. There are many examples of the latter turning long term success into a raised recruiting ceiling. Meanwhile recruiting focused coaches working out at a non-blue blood are few and far between.

If either UNC or UMD flips any of our commits, I don't expect to hear any laughing.

While, ultimately, there is a reasonable chance that neither Mack nor Locksley will field highly successful teams, ignoring the fact that both of them could have negative impact on our own Recruiting is foolish.

As much as people try to resist it, there is literally no better comparison to Recruiting than being a Used-Car Salesman, and both Mack and Locksley know how to do it well--they know that Recruiting is mainly about selling yourself and creating an image of your Program. Teenagers have very short attention spans and if we are hoping they will have enough initiative to look back and see that Locksley was an abject disaster in his previous Head Coaching stop and the game passed Mack Brown by 10 years ago; then we are in for an unpleasant surprise.

Some kid at some point will "flip" from Tech to UMD or UNC law of averages say it will happen.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

What's foolish is to fret about it.

I'll throw in my 2 cents as well. It seems to me that our coaches take a slightly different approach to recruiting than some other programs, often to the dismay of our fans. One positive of that approach may be that a player committed to VT will have most likely already heard a pitch from a "used car salesman" recruiter and ultimately decided VT was a better fit.

Undoubtedly some recruits will choose UNC or UMD over VT, but it's possible many of these players were already going elsewhere, such as PSU or FSU. I'm sure we will have a recruit flip to one of these schools at some point, but it wouldn't surprise me if it is more likely for recruits to flip from one "used car salesman" program to another than from VT.

Even though many fans are bemoaning the hiring of "recruiting-oriented" coaches at UNC and UMD, is it possible that this will saturate the market with the "used car salesman" recruiting approach and effectively result in those programs cannibalizing each other for the recruits already going to PSU and FSU? That could actually benefit VT by making our recruiting approach stand out and enable us to emphasize honesty, community, and continuity offered at VT.

LAH your ominous postings always give me the heebie jeebies.

Idk how good any of these commits are. I was just adding to this thread on their commitments today.

Idk a lot about you but you really seem to struggle with the reality of college football right now. As frustrating as it is for fans, kids love things like "hype", media exposure, new uniforms, big name coaches, etc.

As painful as it is to say, playing for a legendary coach in Bud or for a passionate fan base is less important to most recruits as it was even 10 years ago.

Try and separate yourselves from being a fan of a school. Imagine that you were a high school junior with zero allegiance to any college. 90% of kids would be excited by gear, hot girls, nice facilities, etc. The "rational" thinking of a post-grad is irrelevant in most cases.

If Mack Brown and Locksley are "big names" in coaching then college coaching has really taken a step back.

I think he's saying a "big name" like Foster isn't enough. We need recruiters. Guys who can close. We need to play the "pander to 17 year olds" better.

Locksley and Mack know that game and are significant regional competition for VT.

VT fans keep thinking our virtue is our draw. It's great that we have the benefits VT offers, but there are deficits in other key areas. Many believe those deficiencies are in personnel. We can poo poo Mike Locksley all we want, but he knows how to close. Mack kept the good recruiters on staff.

He kept Thigpen who now it sounds isn't even getting that Co-DC job.

Mack Brown is a huge name! Why do you think espn took him in after he got canned at Texas? It certainly wasn't for his charisma.

And in the DMV, there isn't s bigger name I'm the football community than Mike Locksley. Some kids in that area would rather play for locks than Saban and Meyer

He got canned because he's a terrible coach. UNC will get better recruits, but I don't see a coach who struggled as his time winded down af Texas having massive success at Carolina.

Always choose joy.

If Mack brown is a terrible coach, I'd like to know who is considered a good coach?

He was terrible at the end of his tenure at Texas. His career was winding down, and he was just a bad coach the last few years. I don't think he magically will become the coach he was in the 90s and 00s. Like players, coaches fade. He is currently not a good coach.

Always choose joy.

Nick Saban...kirby smart...Lincoln riley...need I go on?

Being a bad coach and a big name aren't mutually exclusive.

meant success on terms of wins and losses. I think we'll see an uptick in their class rankings, but i don't think that translates to on field success.

Always choose joy.

Yes and yes. CFB (particularly recruiting) has become a massive arms race and changed greatly in 10 years or less. Not long ago, it was considered a major disrespect to continue to recruit players who had verballed at other schools, lots of VT fans supported Beamer for not doing this...now it is essentially expected and practiced widely. We are in an Era of Non-commitable Offers, massive multimillion dollar football facilities with Resort-like amenities, and endless salesmanship.

I'm not saying we should expect or that I even want VT to jump into this pile, but I also think it's naive to think you can build a championship-caliber team without being willing to at least embrace some of these elements. Fuente seems relatively clear that this is not something he wants to do, but he certainly could hire position coaches that are willing to "jump into the fray," as it were. That seems to be the mode at most schools where the top Recruiters are position coaches.

Ultimately, I feel similar to LA..conflicted about how far I really want to see my college football team and Alma mater dig in the dirt to win at all costs. But I also am realistic enough to see that there are any number of other programs that are willing to do it if we are not, and it will be hard to have any hope of competing with the top teams if our talent pool gets further diluted by Progeams like UNC and UMD. It would be wonderful if we could get to the top by doing it "the right way," and have top recruits pick us because of integrity and relationships, but I think all the evidence suggests that Lamborghinis with your logo on them and flashy recruiting visits typically are as (and probably more) effective.

So it's a race to the bottom, and values don't count?

I disagree.

While I want someone who can talk intelligently about our program, and I'm not against salesmanship, a football program has to have values.

The guys who try and take shortcuts (I'm looking at you, Loh, Durkin and The University of Maryand) are going to get found out at some point. Even after the year they've had, The University of Maryland is still trying to take shortcuts. May work for a little while, but eventually, that lack of integrity comes out. Locksley has already been identified on more than one issue, and if the top guy doesn't insist on ethical behavior, nobody else is going to.

Yes, recruits love him, but his path is going to be uphill, and he has NEVER shown that he is capable of taking the high road. The Board of Regents failed the "fire Durkin Test". When the students have to protest the Board of Regents to get them to do the right thing, and Loh looks like the voice of reason, your problems run deeper than trying to hire a salesman as a coach.

And when Maryland gets "found out" who is going to punish them...the NCAA?

The same NCAA that did absolutely nothing about obvious violations at Miami that were literally caught on camera by the person initiating them, wiped systematic academic fraud at UNC under the table, and drastically reduced punishments to a school that protected a pedophile for years?

So then you are relying on the Instition to police it's own football program which is bringing in millions of dollars to the school and the community. That worked fantastically at Baylor, Ole Miss, and OSU with Urban Meyer.

The fact is there are minimal deterants to running a dirty program and lots of money to gain by doing so.

I feel like we've wandered way off topic here, but the overall point is that to laugh off Mack Brown and Locksley as dumb hires who are no threat to us is unwise. Both are proven recruiters with history of (at least) sketchy recruiting practices and are working at schools that have proven they are willing to trade integrity for the pursuit of success.

I don't think the NCAA is necessarily going to punish coaches who lack integrity (unless they get caught doing something blatant), but I think a lack of integrity ultimately yields bad results on it's own. It all comes out in the wash. So I won't be surprised when Mike Locksley has issues at some point in the future.

Sure, having a good recruiter at another school is a concern, but you can't worry about the other guy. You have to worry about whether your team has the goods. You have to do a lot of things right to consistently win in football.

Our concern needs to be over whether Fuente has the goods, and I think he does. Time will tell.

Are we just going to ignore the time Locksley had a head coaching gig and went 2-26? Or how about that time he was interim HC at Maryland and went 1-5?

Everyone is quaking in their boots over a coach who very well might have the worst head coaching record of anyone to ever get a full time P5 job.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

From my understanding Dwayne Haskins would have gone to Maryland if they had been able to keep Locksley somehow, and he has been incredible for Bama with the St Frances pipeline. He may well fail at Maryland, but he will also likely do some damage on the recruiting trail while he is there. We will probably battle him for multiple recruits, and especially if he successfully keeps Beatty on staff.

TLDR; I'm not worried about what Locksley puts on the field at Maryland, but I am somewhat worried about his impact against us on the recruiting trail.

Especially early in his tenure, he's going to cost us recruits.

My money is on the team that has easier practices.

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

Who gets to define hate speech? And who gets to decide if something is offensive to someone else? Well, OK, the moderator. But I might remind you that this discussion got kicked off by someone finding someone else's post objectionable. It didn't break any rules, but the original poster had the good judgment to edit that post.

Profanity involving a religious figure's name is more than just profanity. It shows disrespect towards a religious figure. Intentional or not, it's a surreptitious way to bash religion, by emptying it of significance. Even if you don't care about it, someone else does.

I get that some people don't care about that, but we're all better off if they're at least aware of it. It's better for a moderator not to be involved, because some level of self awareness is better.

Since this has spurred some debate, it seems worthwhile to explain.

Simply disrespecting a religious figure is a far cry from any form of "personal attack" that could be considered hate speech. Hell, straight up bashing religion is not a personal attack that should be considered hate speech. Sure it may upset and offend some, but thats when my "keep scrolling" advice comes into play. The internet is not the place to try and keep everyone from being offended.

Any form of moderation on this specific subject should be limited to actual hate speech (i.e., Speech that attacks a person or group on the basis of attributes such as race, religion, ethnic origin, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

While we're at it, lets say personal attacks on a 17-19 year old recruit/former player is not a good look either.

It baffles me that we're still having this conversation in a recruiting thread. The offending posts are all being slowly moderated into blurredom. Seems like things are taking care of themselves (aside from this forum's slight tendency towards mob mentality) as the system intended. This place will continue on, and I hope this thread will continue on... with posts about recruiting.

I posted the comment below because I'm the one who kinda started it. I'm happy to let it go.

As I said before, I'm not a particularly religious guy. And I'm no Pollyanna, but I was pretty shocked to to read that kind of language on here. I've used similar language but I usually know who my audience is. I thought that term went way too far. As many comments have said in the past, 'Some things you just can't unsee'.

Many times I've wondered, while reading comments, (and TKP is my go to site, mainly because of the comments), what women think when they read some of the posts. I would think that they might be a bit uneasy with some of them, but they also might be hesitant to say anything for fear of being shot down by the masses, (much like I may be shot down here).

I guess I'm just saying that maybe it would be a good thing to sometimes pause and consider other people's reaction to your comment before you hit post.

F-bombs are dropped on this site all the time.

This language is not that much worse than anything else I have seen on a TKP thread.

If people are offended by this, given the context of other language on this site, I'm sorry that's the case. That being said, I don't think this is the place to impose ones arbitrary and personal sense of "appropriateness" onto the rest of the community.

Sacrilegious language is troubling for some and unimportant to others. The same could be said for the F word and a lot of other profanity on this site.

Edited for language and there's still an f-bomb about 3 words in? Damn, I'm sorry I missed the original.

Four players — LaRue County athlete Anthony Adkins, Franklin-Simpson guard Jack Randolph and Camden, New Jersey, wide receiver Stanley King and Miami Carol City defensive tackle Denzel Daxon — have now reopened their recruitment, leaving three commits in the Class of 2019. Those changes represent the first movement in Louisville's recruiting class since the introduction of new coach Scott Satterfield on Tuesday.

Randolph said he received a call from recruiting staffer Pete Nochta, who informed him that "they were just looking to go in a different direction offensive line-wise, and told me I didn't have the length or the weight to play in their system, so they pulled their scholarship," Randolph said.

Yea, who knows. Right beneath that under the Athletic Background they say 244.

2 CBs for the good guys flipping Temple commit Joshua Fuga- one of which is Evan Watkins

FTFY

You put those words together, those are my favorite words, Popeyes and bahama
- Mike Burnup

I don't understand the reason for the FTFY. The other CB was a Temple insider, which seems fairly significant since Fuga's currently a Temple commit.

I think it's weird as shit as both a former football player and current parent but apparently it's really reaching certain recruits and their peers.

um...if I was the father of a recruit and he was fine with it, I'd totally do this.

My issue is having seen one recruiting visit in person and how that mom and father made it more about them than their child made me suspicious of things like this.
If the dad asked in front of his kid UF isn't going to say no in fear of turning off the kid and the kid isn't going to say no in fear of his father's wishes. So is the kid really ok with it, who knows.

Didn't Louisville basketball do something similar to this and had to increasingly step up their game?

... yes but they used pics of hookers who looked like recruit's dads. :-)

Love it.

Seeing tons of backlash for this for some reason. Anyone that doesn't see the fun in this really needs to lighten up, they're just having a good time on an all expenses paid trip for one of the biggest weekends of their lives'.

What are thossssse?

I can't see past the unhemmed, 4 inches oversized, pleated pants he probably bought in 94.

Silly look, but it's how you relate to kids. He knows what he's doing.

Florida wore Jordan 11 Concord cleats this year, and if you don't think kids get hype about that, you're crazy.

Air Jordan XI (if I'm not mistaken) for most sneaker heads, one of the best shoes ever designed. Kudos to him for doing his research in an attempt to connect with the young folk (if that's the shoe that's actually displayed).

Note: Meant to post this as a reply...

It sure is! The Jordan Concord 11. IMO still the slickest basketball shoe ever made.

Agreed, it's so versatile. I don't want to derail the recruiting thread (true to form TKP style), but honestly this shoe is one of few that can be worn for casual and even in "some" business casual settings. Has always been on my top three favorite J's.

Im partial to the Jordan 4s but I do own a pair Jordan 11s....my only real vice.....sneakers from my childhood....the biggest robbery in fashion....Jordan drops a pair of 20+yr old shoes and puts the "retro" tag on them. And charges twice as much as when they first came out.....smh

Inflation, duh! ;^)

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

WE ARE GETTING OUR 1st 4* RB IN LIKE 6 years!!!!

Meanwhile in AThens:

They probably are not going to get Trey Sanders, but your point still stands. Georgia also has 4 RB's currently starting in the NFL (Gurley, Chubb, Michel, and Crowell) so it doesn't seem like such a bad call for a back to go there.

So this got me thinking... would any of those 4 backs not be starting in the NFL if they went to VT? My point being, are these RBs more likely to get the league by going to UGA over VT or any other program at our level?

Actually there's a data point to address this question since Isaiah Crowell was kicked out of UGA after his freshman season and played the next 2 years at Alabama State before going to the NFL. He did go undrafted because of his baggage but has carved out a 5 year NFL career so far, which is pretty solid for a RB. I do think UGA RBs would tend to get drafted earlier than VT RBs but we've still had multiple 1st round picks (Wilson, Williams, Jones) despite none of them having successful NFL careers and believe those UGA guys would have had a very good chance to be high picks coming from VT as well.

I started typing it as a joke, but Elijah Holyfield is indeed the son of Evander Holyfield

All the same badassness but with just a touch more ear.

Do they realize there's only one ball on the field at any one time? And only one guy gets to carry it

Kirby Smart sold them on a lot of hook and ladder run plays. 3 pitches minimum. Insider info.

Maybe we can get an early start on the January recruiting thread? Sheesh people.

Is it football season yet?

I've never been in the middle of a shit storm that was pleasant... and unfortunately I've been in a few nearly literal shit storms.

Don't do this to me

Fingers crossed that we benefit from someone else's shitstorm, and that it isn't OUR shitstorm...

Can someone start a "December recruiting part 2" thread?

Be the change you want to see in the world

I wonder if his fingers can reach all the necessary keys. Anyone know what size glove he is?

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about
