I didn't get this handle for nothing.

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I'm a man! I'm 44! Hokie thru and thru.

I'm sure any barrels that survived they can sell as a special edition for a butt-ton of money

According to Mitch Hedburg, the bourbon in those barrels will now reach its maximum flavor potential.

I'm not exactly a bourbon/whiskey guy, but I love that part of the state and try to be a bourbon guy when I'm out there (never ends well). This makes me sad. However, that river sounds like a damn good time come next rain.

i dated a girl from this town while a student at VT...her mom brought a bottle of bourbon when she visited

That team sure did suck last night. They just plain sucked! I've seen teams suck before, but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.

Is this from Norman Reedus and the funky fetus?

I can confirm this is Norman Reedus... but I am afraid to Google search whatever "funky fetus" is on my work machine...

It's Norman Reedus from the Walking Dead episode where [spoiler] got all zombified.

I didn't know he cared that much about Shane...

In hindsight keeping all the stock in one place was really whiskey

You son of a bi....leg

In all seriousness though...yeah. I did a tour at Jim Beam in 2016 and the dark, dungeon looking place from the Mila Kunis commercial is actually one really old tallass building on their campus that they stack all the barrels in. It's neat, yes, but if there's one 2X4 that gets a termite or two in it...kaboom.

Yeah but that's only Jim Beam. It would be worse at an actual good bourbon distillery

I wouldn't know good bourbon if my life depended on it. It all makes me want to punch a wall (not in an angry drunk way, just a "ew that hurts my childlike tastebuds" way).

They make some good bourbon there. Knob Creek Single Barrel is great. Booker's is good too but not worth $75 and definitely not worth the $100 they're apparently planning to charge in the future. But your point stands on Jim Beam as a whole.

Bookers is wonderful, and I bought 3 bottles at $40 each in 2016 before the price hike. $75 is pushing it, and $100 is outrageous

No need to cry over spilled milk.

But this is bourbon.

I'm a shareholder of Castle Brands (ticker: ROX) and they have a portfolio of bourbons themselves (primarily Jefferson's) and their stock shot up nearly 10% yesterday afternoon....coincidence? Hmmm, I think not. So for me, there is a silver lining to this tragedy.

Smells like we got a conspiracy on our hands, boys.

The EPA is looking at a nearby creek where bourbon may have spilled.

The EPA are out of their depth here.

This is clearly a job for the TKP.

The current EPA probably won't think there's a problem with the river water until it reaches 10% ABV.

Here's a hint - just look where the fish are congregating to get shitfaced from the water.

There was a similar incident in 1996 at Heaven Hill distillery, but that spill caught on fire and was basically a flaming wave that caught all kinds of other distillery buildings on fire as it spread.

Twenty years ago this week, 90,000 barrels of whiskey aging at Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, were lost in a massive and tragic fire that, when looking at TV news footage, resembles a peek into the depths of hell. The loss of liquid that day represented 2 percent of the world's whiskey stocks at that time, and the destruction of Heaven Hill's distillery was akin to the death of a family member in the bourbon community.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

If I recall correctly, the firefighters had trouble putting it out since they had to take a bunch of breaks due to getting wasted off the fumes

I would say I need a drink after seeing this, but apparently I CAN'T HAVE ONE BECAUSE THE ENTIRE FACILITY COLLAPSED!!

That team sure did suck last night. They just plain sucked! I've seen teams suck before, but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.

It's a shame, I really like their 1792 bourbon, but it looks like this might decimate that brand. Their entire stock has collapsed. Whatever is able to be salvaged is all they'll have going forward.

Yeah I was actually going to ask how much of the product do you think is actually salvageable? I am also curious as to whether or not companies have insurance for instances like this.

According to CBS, they don't yet know how many barrels can be salvaged.

Why would they put all their barrels in one building? Gotta diversify geographically, that way one disaster doesn't mean a total loss...

Don't put all your barrels in one building.

Glad you saw what I was going for. It's all yours, fits you better anyway.

Great in theory, but small(er) businesses have a hard time executing a strategy like that. Exponentially harder when you are dealing with a heavily regulated industry. Even large businesses have problems with geography in their business continuity plans.
