Joe Kane listed as OL and other Spring Roster Notes

Sauce
Kane, we assumed was coming in, initially, as a DE with plans to move inside, now appears to have moved to the O-line.

Lecitus Smith put on 33 pounds and is now listed at 309.

We've finally got some prototypical NFL OL size with TJ Jackson 6-6 335, Yosh 6-7 322.

Garbutt is now up over 240.

Looks like Vinny's younger brother is listed as a walk-on OL.

Speaking of Vinny, he's at 284.

Speaking of walk-ons, early running for All-Name team is DB Dylan Thevayagam.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I'm hype to see Garbutt, Debose and Proctor, not to mention Mihota working inside at 285

To add onto the Garbutt bit, Zion DeBose is at 247. He was in the 215-225 range outta high school.

I never assumed that Kane was coming in as a d-end, but I am a little surprised that he made the switch to OL so quickly.

1-0 every week

One of the assistant coaches told a Hokie Club Q&A event after signing day that Kane would be moving right off the bat.

Are we really that thin on the offensive line to need to pull a defensive tackle to be on the offense?

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

Are you new to the Hokie following? Offensive Lines have been a huge disappointment since Newsome was hired.

I think he (& a number of us) didn't expect it to follow us into Fu's 3rd season.

My concern on the OL was Grimes (1), followed by Searels, followed by Vice, etc. These players have not had consistent coaching at all. That and I am not sold that Vice is a better coach than Searels.

Searels was hot garbage.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Why?

I second this. I thought we were showing progress in blocking and protection under Searels. I know he was snapped up almost instantly by another P5 team after he was let go.

I will admit I don't know football anywhere to French's level, but I thought he was a lot better than Hot Garbage.

Watching opposing defenses only need to rush 4 and stunt to get pressure consistently against his lines was pretty painful to watch. I can't speak to anything more than that, but that's what I remember about him.

Pretty sure they were doing that against Vice as well.

Grimes is the real deal. So real he knew he belonged in the $EC.

Worked out pretty well at left guard for the past three and half seasons. I'm no expert on how Kane or anyone else's skillset translates to the other side of the ball though.

generally it's a sign the player doesn't have the burst/quickness to play on the DL, not that we're short on OL's

Kane could turn into a pretty good OG or C in a couple of years

Kane has very light feet. I had some worries about his ability to use his upper body to shed blocks, but he looked like a better DT fit than, say, a Dee Fullwood looked on his HS film. His light feet will help him at center as well. My worry with him on OL is a) inexperience- not a single film clip in his highlights came on offense and b) he looks like he has short arms, which could present an issue with directional snapping.

So there I was minding my own business on the AOC ops floor in Korea when out of nowhere I come across this picture and laugh loud enough that my Korean counterpart looked at me like there is something wrong with me. Thank you for that.
