I want to say thanks to my MOM and DAD, they have always believed in me through my life journey. I also want to say thanks to the person who had faith in me first, Coach Onur. Since the first day I got here, I have had a new family and friends with him. They mean more than just friends to me, Aslihan, Ali, Demhat, Ramazan, Omer and Emre, those guys took care of me like I am their little brother. Ben Bellucci, is the best trainer you can ever work with. His assistants Joe and Matt, his wife Pavla are amazing people. I also want to thank coach Dan Prete and BW Spartans family, coach John Zito and coach Ryan Eskow for giving me this amazing opportunity. And my AAU team MAS is the best team ever. Thanks to coach James Lee and coach Effrem Jones. I am so blessed that I have all those people around me!! All of them are now part of my family and right now I will join another family. Thank you to all of the colleges and coaches who recruited me so far. I am happy to announce that I am going to VIRGINIA TECH UNIVERSITY #letsgohookies 🦃🧡

A stretch forward with a versatile game, the youngster seems to fit into to the team that Buzz is building.

The Hokies recently gained a commitment from Andre Gordon, a 6'3" combo guard who has a versatile set of skills:

Those two followed the lead of Anthony Harris, another 6'3 guard (and borderline top-50 prospect) who committed earlier in October. It's been a busy month for Buzz and his coaching staff, which is comforting to see after a little bit of turnover on the bench (both Jeff Reynolds and Steve Roccaforte took other assistant positions).

I doubt they're done, too. With four seniors (Ty Outlaw, Ahmed Hill, Chris Clarke, and Justin Robinson) on the roster, and the likely chance that Nickeil Alexander-Walker flirts with the NBA, Tech has the room for one or two more guys who fit the mold.

It's the Turkish spelling.

Oh i was like when did tech become uva

I feed off of nightmares

Go ahead. Pronounce his name correctly.

Better yet, spell it without looking it up...

I suggest we cut him some slack on spelling.

More importantly, though, he looks like a fantastic addition to the team!

Who? Kevin Gultekin?

You mean Kevin Këvins?

Damn you... I completely missed that opportunity. Take your damn leg.

Oh yeah, that's the stuff.

If you're not sure if my comment warrants a "/s", it probably does.

it always baffled me how these recruits get so much attention from our coaches, are so impressed with our school, and want to spend their college years there and they don't know the name of the school. I am glad they commit to the good guys but I feel like we have a pretty clear brand at this point and somehow they missed it....Virginia Tech.

a rose by any other name... would smell as sweet

Gotta remember these are teenagers trying to locate a great environment to advance their basketball career and get a great education at the same time. The label that goes on that environment isn't that important to a teenager. Virginia Tech are the key words, and VT is after all, a University.

Typically, everyone refers to VT without the word university. So, you can really get to know VT, Tech, Virginia Tech, etc., without knowing it's the Virginia Polytech Institute and State University.

They can call us Shithole U and as long as they're playing and winning for us, I don't care.

VIRGINIA PolyTECHnic institute and state UNIVERSITY

technically, it's correct.

So much this. I have never understood all of the animosity over this.

To be clear, I am not a fan of the VT University thing, but I dont see why everyone makes such a big deal about it

Technically speaking then, we could also be called Virginia State or VSU.

Shep7777

Nope. There is already a Virginia State University.

A ton of older folks still refer to us as VPI, but everybody knows who we are, regardless of what they call us. All of those things are better than VippySue, right? It could be worse. Vah Tech still pisses me off, too.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Oh this sub thread again... it is definitely an off week.

We make fun of UVA for their zima/cheese parties but we spent half of every commit thread complaining about how someone tweeted VT. Seems very... soft.

Bring something new to the table.

If you're reading the above post and thinking, "is this guy serious?!?," you can safely assume I'm not.

Just made the realization this kid transferred to a high school 20 minutes from me. So needless to say I'll be going to a few games this year to see what Buzz has found with this one!

Always Jumping even from hours away.

Congrats Yavuz and welcome to Hokie Nation!

With this commit, it looks like we have room for 1 more SF/PF and one Center in the class. Looks like these are the main 4 targets for those 2 spots (Also could add Cassius McNeilly if he reclassifies):

SF/PF- CJ Felder (decision in a few days), Emmanuel Miller
C- Qudus Wahab, Jaden Bediako

Hope to land two more of these 6-7+ guys that can give us some help on the boards!

Cassius McNeilly is a big time prospects for us. We're going to make room for him whatever class he is in.

Uncle is on staff too, Jamie McNeilly. I'm sure Buzz has been hearing about this kid for a long time...

Jamie played for Buzz @ New Orleans and has spent pretty much his entire professional career under him I believe. He's the longest tenured assistant and has been in Blacskburg since the Buzz era started. It'll be fun watching him build his own program one day.

so everyone else who had never heard of this kid doesn't have to google him..

Also FWIW we have only 11 scholarship players this season, and four are SR/rSR. So we could take up to 6 players in this class without any more attrition. I think that it's unlikely* we will have a class that big, but 4-5 is quite possible.

* Buzz doesn't seem to mind leaving a scholarship or two on the table and a huge class creates a logjam and the need for another giant class down the road

From my #sauces the staff is looking at taking 7 in this class.

Long time listener...first time poster

That's nuts, but quite possible considering Alexander-Walker or Nolley may go pro. But I'll go back to Buzz's history of leaving scholarships on the table to predict we won't pick up 7

I expect Alexander-Walker to go. Would be shocked by Nolly. Based off of past history I would expect a transfer or two so we will likely have the room to take 7 if we want, but I would guess at least 1 or 2 is a Juco or grad transfer to even out the classes a bit.

Let's be honest, unless Alexander-Walker greatly improves I would be shocked to see him go.

I agree. Nothing in his game so far has me expecting to see him get to Lottery status so outside of that I wouldn't expect him to leave early, especially as Buzz continues to build the talent behind him. Only exception would be if Buzz decided to move on. Then all bets are off on what these kids might do.

If NAW did improve enough to be a Lottery pick... that would be a good thing for the HOKIES, right?

Go Hokies

yes it would be a definite positive if he could. Only problem is his level of play so far doesnt track with it being likely. He could come out this season and prove me completely off base and light the world on fire and carry Tech deep into the NCAAs to garner enough attention but thats what it will take for him to be a lottery pick.

Plenty of kids playing for teams that dont pay their players under the table leave every year without getting a lottery grade. A lottery grade has never been and will continue not being a qualifying factor for leaving early for a paid contract somewhere.

I understand that and am taking into account what I believe to be the direction that Alexander Walker will decide to go if he isn't a lottery grade. I believe he will elect to stay in school and complete his degree if he isn't going to be a lottery pick. That's based on what others have told me about him and his background.

Hope we save 1-2 for Spring transfer/release/reclassify.

We're going to be young in the 2019 season...wouldn't be shocked if Buzz hits the grad transfer market hard, especially if there's an impact big available.

Also, wouldn't be shocked if KBJr. leaves after this year even though he has a year of eligibility left. Don't think it's probable though.

KJB wouldn't be drafted

Leaves and goes where? I am with BigSmoooooooth, i don't think KBJ has any draft potential.

Not necessarily to play professionally per se..these guys are human beings so I don't think it's fair to him to assume he is automatically going to come back for his fifth year. Maybe he blows up and becomes a draftable prospect this season. Maybe he's done with basketball and wants to start his "second career". Maybe he wants to play for another school for personal reasons as a grad transfer.

I think there's a 95% chance is stays in Blacksburg but I don't want to dismiss that 5%.

Danny Coale Caught That Ball!!!

Buzzketball got its second commitment in three days

Word on the street is there is another one too. He apparently has not announced yet.

We're not finished

Recruit Prosim

Couple people I know expect the third announcement in the next 48 hours at the latest. Be interesting to see if they are right. There is a huge official visit during this same time period so I hope they aren't mutually exclusive. Would be a major get.

Is that the Center you're talking about?

Uh, did you mean within the next 48 minutes? or were you thinking of someone else ?

There is another but less certain. Miller is a great get and I wasnt sure he was a lock yet.

I just noticed that the "VT" in the background of his commitment post is the stupid swooshy academic one, not the athletic one. That's annoying

Maybe he come to play school?

"It's always great to beat UVA, that makes us all smarter and better looking for a couple days".

In Buzz we trust!

I will admit to being nervous in July. Losing 2 assistants and the whole recruiting class looked really ominous. Now we are upgraded immensely with the new recruits and Buzz is reunited with former staff mates in Johnson and Layer. In the end, Buzz ended up with HIS guys.

What a great outcome. Now I'm eager to see what awesome talent is the 4th guy in the class.

Interesting perspective on this kid by Nebraska. Apparently they were going hard for this guy and had a ton of playing time available for big men

Welcome Dots #2!!

In addition to getting two commits on the player side, Buzz also got a commit on the staff side as the Director of Player Personnel. He brought in Ryan Nadeau from the Chicago Bulls to work the programs technological and video needs. Prior to the Bulls he was at Michigan State in much the same role.

6-6 200lbs 3* composite 138th national

Outside its night time, but inside its LeDay

Will be interesting (like it always is) to see the player heights & weights when they enroll. They all vary by an inch and 10-15lb depending onsite. I've seen Miller listed as 6-7 in multiple places and Gultekin listed as tall as 6-8. ESPN lists Harris as 6-4 but Rivals & 247 say 6-3

He looks a lot like Chris Clarke, doesn't he?

I guess #13 is Cassius McNeilly.

Hopefully he's cash from 3

And +1. Per 247, Emanuel Miller commits to the good guys.

CANADA2VT. Miller, NAW and on the trails for McNeilly.

Forgot about Kabongo, he is also originally northern lad.

I'm going to have a heart attack if Wahab commits on his visit this weekend

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Another one holy hell buzz is on a roll is wahab still on base this weekend and a lock to get as well?

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Not a lock, still some work to go. They are hopeful tho. I'm hearing good things

Long time listener...first time poster

Remember when we were worried about a lack of commits in this class?

Lol whoops

VT Football: It'll get after ya!

Proud Hokie since 2004.

When is signing day for bball

There's an early one mid way through November and then again in April

Buzz is killing it. Hokies are now #13 in the 247 team rankings.

If Buzz decides to take 6 players like many are indicating this could easily end up top five just on quantity

Can Buzz help out on football recruiting maybe cause a top 10 basketball class would be mind boggling. Imagine saying two months ago we may have a top 10 class in BBALL we wouldve laughed it off the court

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

I think Felder is set to announce soon. Glad we got Miller, I like him better. Both are players in the Clarke/Horne mold, don't need two if them.

Two Gs in Gordon and Harris. Two Wings in Gultekin and Miller. Maybe a Center with Waheb or Jaden Bediako. Hold that 6th until the spring for McNeilly to reclassify or a transfer.

^^^ Tyler Fanning posted it above.

This is awesome. Really looking forward to the best Hokies sports month, November.

I know NAW got everyone excited by being such a highly rated recruit but i really dont see him as an early exit. Nothing i saw last year made me think he is going to go to the nba right now. He would need huuuge improvements. I can tell you now no one ive seen in the nba scene is talking about him as a potential player.

He will probably be a 4 year player and a good one at that.

My friend had a "source" who told him that Tim Settle just didn't care about academics and was going to leave early. I thought he was crazy, but he ended up being right.

Similarly, he claims that NAW doesn't really take school all that seriously and he thinks he will leave if he has a shot at being drafted. Time will tell.

Well Tim undoubtedly was anNFL talent. The NBA draft is way smaller and thus is more exclusive. You really have to be one of the best to leave early. NAW wasnt at that level and probably wont be this year either.

Last year, 91 players left school early for the NBA draft. By my count, 43 of them were drafted. That means 48 kids left school early and did not get drafted. Even if NAW is not good enough, he could easily be one of those people.

Edit: And yes the 91 is only players who stayed in the draft. At least another 100 declared but returned to school before the deadline

However there are way more competitive basketball teams with potential nba talent than there are in football. I don't see him being in the group personally.

nbadraft.net currently has NAW as the #16 overall draft pick for 2019. I don't think he's THAT good either but if I'm seeing that kind of hype, you know he is too

I imagine a lot of that hype is from his cousin making the NBA. But he was definitely better last year.

Well, let's hope he has the kind of year to justify a #16 pick. That'd be fun to watch.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Anyone hear anything from the visit this weekend?

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

Havent heard anything specific but I have to wonder if things didn't go as well as planned considering the staff has new offers out to several bigs in the last couple weeks.

Woodstock Academy Center Tre Mitchell, 6'9, 245 lbs, 83rd in the Nation on the 247 Composite for Class of 19

Mt St Joe Academy in Baltimore Center Javonte Brown, 6'11, 220 lbs, Class of 21, he is another Canadian based player which continues that trend.

Have heard there are a couple other bigs offered but I don't have specifics on them yet.

Center Javonte Brown, 6'11, 220 lbs

Ummm, I think you must have a typo here. VT don't take no players over 6'8"......

No, that's accurate. However, he'll be 6'6" when he arrives for his Freshman year...

It is a typo. He's actually 5'23"

We put the K in Kwality

Give me Tre Mitchell plz
