College Football Belt

Many of you are aware of the College Football Belt that's been discussed a few times around here. I didn't want to bump the old thread up, since it was created in 2011 and bumped up against last year. For those late to the party, the CF Belt is an award that some fans came up with to determine the best team on the field. They started with the 1971 Nebraska team, but later determined that the lineage still worked out if they traced it all the way back to the first college football game in 1869. Whoever beats the team currently holding the Belt becomes the new Belt holder.

Unfortunately, it looks like the website that tracks it is dead. It stopped being updated last year, and completely went down during the offseason. I think some folks on Reddit are trying to track it, but I'm having a heck of a time finding a clear list that is actually up-to-date.

At the end of 2016, the Belt actually resided with the actual CFP Champions at Clemson. They held on to it until Syracuse took it from them, and then Miami took it from them a week later. Then, Pitt managed to steal it in the final week of the season and went home since they weren't going bowling (courtesy of a Hokie goal line stand the week prior).

Therefore, Pitt brought the Belt to the 2018 season, but lost it to Penn State in week 2.
Penn State surrendered it to Ohio State in week 5.
Ohio State just gave it to Purdue in week 8.

So, Purdue is the current holder of the Belt. Next challenger is Michigan State.

With the structure of the Big Ten schedule, it's going to stay in that conference until bowl season.
