2018 Six Pick Week 4

Side effect of last week: we can now kiss TheFifthFuller's prediction of a 12-0 regular season goodbye. Even when we don't play ECU, we lose.

Moving to just six games a week has had the effect of producing a lot of perfect picks. We've now had six of them in just three weeks. Surprisingly no 0-fers, though.

Here are Week 1's results. They'll be added to everybody's total (along with the results of Championship Week, which also have to be picked in the comments here) at the end of the season.

He's not mad, just disappointed in you

Notre Dame (-7.5)
Wake Forest

Fun Fact #1: Notre Dame is 3-0. The scores of those games: 24-17, 24-16, and 22-17. Well, they're consistent.

Fun Fact #2: Wake is 0-3 against the spread, by a combined total of 5.5 points. Vegas seems to have them figured out.

PICK: I'm not a believer in Wake, but Notre Dame has been pushing it. Wake at least covers.

Not the best thing you could choose for your midlife crisis
TCU (-3)
Texas

Fun Fact #1: Since TCU joined the Big XII, they've outscored Texas 153-33. Damn.

Fun Fact #2: Texas is just 9-7 under Tom Herman, but to be fair, 6 of those games were against AP Top 25 teams.

PICK: For those of us of a certain age, it's amazing to think that TCU could conceivably have a letdown game against Texas. They won't, though.

----------

Mississippi State (-10)
Kentucky

Fun Fact #1: Mississippi State's given up points on 100% of opponents' red zone trips this year. Then again, that amounts to 3 FG's and a TD in 4 trips. In 3 games.

Fun Fact #2: Kentucky RB Benny Snell is averaging over 5 yards/carry, and has Kentucky at 3-0 for the first time since...2017. When they finished 7-6.

PICK: This is a bigger line than it should be, I think. Kentucky covers late.

Dana White's goofy southern little brother

Florida (-4.5)
Tennessee

Fun Fact #1: Florida's struggled in their first year under new coach Dan Mullen, having lost to the only P5 team they played this year (Kentucky).
Fun Fact #2: Tennessee's struggled in their first year under new coach Jeremy Pruitt, having lost to the only P5 team they played this year (WVU).

PICK: This used to be a big rivalry back in the day. Yet this past offseason, both teams were turned down by multiple prospective coaches. Shows how far they've fallen. I'll take Florida, I guess, though I don't feel good about it.

"The Sred Zone"? "Thes Red Zone"?

Stanford (-1.5)
Oregon

Fun Fact #1: This will be Stanford's first road game, following three straight at home to open their season.
Fun Fact #2: This will be Oregon's 4th straight home game to open their season.

PICK: Damn, these teams are as bad as the SEC for never leaving home OOC. That said, Bryce Love is back this week, and I'll take David Shaw's already established program to cover.

----------

Wisconsin (-3.5)
Iowa

Fun Fact #1: Wisconsin had won 41 straight home non-conference games before the Fightin' Leftovers of Mendenhall U stunned them last week.
Fun Fact #2: Kirk Ferentz wants cut block penalties to be reviewable. I didn't care about him one way or another before, but I'm a fan now.

PICK: Somehow we ended up with all 6 games involving home underdogs. Iowa wins this one outright though.

DRINK OF THE WEEK

Blanton's is one of those bourbons I actually wanted to not like. It's made by Buffalo Trace, who already makes a delicious bourbon at half the price (called "Buffalo Trace"). I didn't know they were behind this before I bought it, or else I never would have picked it up. Turns out that it is actually better than Buffalo Trace. Noticeably better, and that's saying something, 'cause Buffalo Trace is awesome. But it's still not twice-the-price better.
