French's Mount Rushmore: Sports-Related Commercials

Denis Leary Bo Jackson "Dislocated Hip"

Dennis Hopper Bruce Smith "Bad Things Man"

Converse GrandMama (The entire campaign is great, but I loved the Little Old Lady who Lived in the Shoe and Three Point Land versions.) It is a shame LJ started to have back issues.

Sports center spot where Arnold Palmer makes an AP in the cafeteria

And this...

"Skoal, brothah".

"We gonna play some two hand touch..."

I got you dude.

Leonard. Duh.

This will always be the GOAT commercial and I will fight you if you disagree:

Payton Manning's commercials used to be great.

Mean Joe Greene Coke commercial

I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them!

Charles Barkley - I Am Not a Role Model

Here you go

YES. Came here to post this one.

And then, this as well....from Sir Chuck.

There it is. I couldn't get embed working, thanks.

Inarguably one of the most important sports commercials of all time. It transcended the usual sports bubble at the time and sparked a broader conversation about the role of sports and athletes in our culture.

The old Nothin' But Net commercials still ring in my ears.

This was a fantastic campaign.

Leonard. Duh.

Those were favorites

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

That was a commercial?!? That was incredible.

Yup by far my favorite even though I'm a man u fan this ads incredible

Dicks Sporting Goods had an amazing baseball commercial a few years ago that encompassed two pitches of an at bat. But the real answer is the "How bad have you got it?" Nascar ads from the early 2000s. Damn do I miss those.

How can you make this list and leave out one of the best commercials of all time, let alone one of the best sports commercials

King Alum of the House Hokie, the First of His Name, Khal of the Turkey Legs, The rightful Heir to the Big Board, the Unbanned, Breaker of Trolls and Father of Gritty

When this aired the first time I burned a copy on a DVD (dating myself) and my boss and I watched it at work for a week straight

a travesty that I had to scroll for this long to finally see it posted...

1) I have never seen this before
2) I had no idea what it was selling until the end. I didn't pick up the Reebok chain

i dont even know how to respond to this.

The Muresan one reminded me of this one. I am no longer irritating.

Why didn't you eliminate them, Albert?

I went to an Indians/Angels game last summer and said before he got up. "I not a machine. I'm just Albert." Really liked prime Albert in STL

Can't spell DBU without Bud

Dang - didn't realize how much of a fox Hannah Storm is / was.

This has and always will be the correct answer. Hannah Storm has been on the big time crush list since college, although she will always be number 2 to Summer Sanders doing NBA Inside Stuff.

Probably not many cricket fans, if any, on TKP, but seeing how the cricket world cup is the second most watched sports even in the world, it would be criminal not to show a few cricket ones:

obligatory "Chicken parm you taste so good" reference.

But to be honest, most of Peytons commericals have been fire.

Some great choices on here. The Braves long ball one is probably the best ever. Sportscenter has so many great ones, Y2K is my favorite. Grandmama was so good. Terry Tate was a sensation.

Here's another classic:

"Every day I do!"

Leg to you sir, I love this commercial

TKPhi Damn Proud
BSME 2009

I crack up every time I see it

I don't like Cam, but his NFL Play 60 commercial is one of my favorites. "And become your mom's favorite player?"

Y2K is my #1

Peyton and Cooper picking on Eli is great, but even better behind the scenes. The directory wanted film a take where Eli got to be the one picking on the others and Peyton and Cooper wouldn't agree to it because "Eli doesn't get to win".

Loved Grandmama, Larry Johnson was my favorite player and he's who I played on NBA Live 95.

I cant think of it right now, and no time to look, but there was an epic Heisman house this past season.

It's a law of nature.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I remember a Mutumbo commercial where his response to every situational basketball question was "dunk on them." However, I can't find it anywhere. I can find lots of other House of Mutumbo commercials though.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Then there's the story about him walking into a bar, opening his arms wide and yelling "Who wants to sex Mutumbo?" Wish my memory remembered where I read it, and when even, but it could have been SI.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Thanks for that. My brain has a way of sorta semi halfway remembering bits and pieces of things. Still don't know where I read about it, though. Leg for the help, though.

There's a Sergio Garcia one where he slides up to the bar and asks a lady if she's a slicer. She responds "no, I'm a hooker." Then he slowly walks away. I can't find it anywhere.

Think it got pulled. There's an '05 reference to it, but that's the dark ages of it being on the web...

Not a sports commercial, but I'm hijacking the thread. We need discussion and critique on the best 80s songs from French. Let's get it done.

I want to submit Dance Hall Days by Wang Chung. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=n1TNLU-ydLA First off, we have had a wang Chung experience on our offensive line before. https://mobile.twitter.com/HokiesFB/status/366247069813469184/photo/1

Second, this song just has everything. On the surface, an 80s pop song. Dive in deeper and hear about "take your baby by the ears...play upon her darkest fears..." and things get real weird.

I'm going to have to go with Livin On a Prayer with Pour Some Sugar On Me and Billie Jean as a close second and third. Timeless songs really.

Billie Jean stands alone in that trio. Fascinating song, but after MJ performed it on TV, I almost actually went out and bought it. Almost. That was monumental TV, though, and that song seemed to reach almost everyone across genres.

new thread pls

In hindsight, that would have definitely been more appropriate. Forgive me, pls.

forgiven

If I am making an 80s playlist, these songs are on it.

"Dead Man's Party" by Oingo Boingo
"Erotic City" by Prince
"Walking on the Moon" The Police
"Mountain Song" Jane's Addiction
"Atomic Dog" George Clinton
"Addicted to Love" Robert Palmer
"Sususdio" Phil Collins
"Let's Go Crazy" Prince
"Celebration" Kool and the Gang
"Message in a Bottle" The Police
"The Warrior" Patti Smyth
"One Step Beyond" Madness
"A Message to Rudy" The Specials
"Sledgehammer" Peter Gabriel

That is a start

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

"They always do that?"

"Nah, they usually go for two."

Maybe someone can find and post. Old school Miller Lite sport all star Bowling with Rodney Dangerfield. "All we need is one pin Rodney"

Can't believe I didn't think of this sooner....

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Maybe in the US these were not as popular, but growing up these were the best sports commercials.

"I don't know what a Hokie is, but God is one of them. Go Virginia Tech." -Lee

I don't think I saw a few of those but I absolutely loved the adidas +10 commercial and the Brazilian airport commercial. Nice pulls.

I still laugh at the Shaqtus commercial.
