Coaching Carousel Predictions 2016

It's that time of year again! With college football sadly winding down, the coaching carousel is starting to spin around with old coaches being thrown out and new wins jumping on board. As you may recall, I wrote a similar article giving my predictions as to who would fill in the many job openings in 2015. Even though I was 1-6, I had a lot of fun writing that article and figured I would start it again. Feel free to share your predictions or shred mine up. I'll edit the post from time to time to add more major college football teams if new firings occur.

Two programs have already hired new coaches, both of which I figured would hire they guys the ended up hiring
1. LSU: Ed Orgeron
2. Texas Tom Herman

For major college football programs still vacant
1. Oregon: PJ Fleck
If anyone can resurrect Oregon's once breathtaking high-octane offense, it's the wunderkid from Western Michigan. Oregon offers a program that had great success under Chip Kelly and one of the best brands in all of college football. Unlike LSU or Texas, Oregon isn't drowned in politics and overbearing alumni which allows Fleck to run the program the way he wants.

2. Purdue: Les Miles
Since Purdue will likely miss out on the second best coaching candidate on the market (the best was taken by the school in Austin), I think Purdue would be glad to give Miles another chance at coaching. Miles has strong Midwestern ties and could really recruit top talent to West Lafayette, which hasn't been seen in a long while. If Miles truly does change or adapt his offensive philosophy, this could be a homerun hire for a mid-level Big Ten school like Purdue.

3. Houston: Phillip Montgomery
This one is tricky because who knows who Houston will pull in for their successor to Herman. If either Major Applewhite or Todd Orlando don't follow Herman to Texas then I think one of the two will be the next coach for the Cougars, but if both leave it opens the door to a variety of options. Phillip Montgomery has done a great job at Tulsa and is an up-and-coming coach. He may not make the move since Tulsa is also in the AAC, but this hire would make some sense.

4. Baylor: Sonny Dykes
This one is definitely the toughest as whoever inherits this program will face a similar situation to what Bill O'Brien had to do at Penn State. I'm not sure if a lot of coaches, understandably so, to take over a program with so much toxicity. One coach who has had experience turning around programs, both at Louisiana Tech and California, is Sonny Dykes. Dykes probably wants to get back in the business and is itching for a challenge in Waco. Even though he has a sub-par record at Cal, Dykes is a solid offensive-mind who could perhaps continue the offensive success Baylor has had in recent years.

EDITS: Sorry I made several typos while writing this, I was creating this while following the Hokies upset of Michigan. I got my Cal coaches mixed up so instead of Tedford it should be Dykes. Also I miswrote Bill O'Brien's name as Tom O'Brien.
